Please read my old post about this. I had earlier bought night eye but replaced them with 180w units that made a massive difference. Fairly easy swap.

Thanks for the update. I tried to skim through your posts but couldn’t find which brand the 180w are from. Could you please help?

What you're referring to is it after switching off the engine. If yes then its some electronics that are working nit sure what, but also headlights when on do make s faint whirring noise. Nothing to worry about.

Please note the correct Part no. 5JN 863 831. I had ordered from Boodmo, and they never delivered even after 2 months, and they asked me to cancel if I'm not interested in waiting. I'm having the same trouble with VW not able to source the part for me.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

Does it come in BLACK..?! The Story of my Virtus 1.5 GT DSG!

It all began with me selling my good old Punto D and picking Abarth Punto as my daily drive. I always wanted to own Abarth Punto and it just so happened that I found a well maintained low run Abarth back in 2021 and it was an instant love and ended up purchasing it quickly.
My story with the Abarth continued just for 11000 kms in little over a year. This was the time when WFH/ Hybrid work were still the norm. So continuing to use a manual didn’t really bother me much. Slowly that started to change in 2022, my work place stated to mandate working from office 3 days a week and slowly changed to full 5 days. This was the time I started to wonder if I should switch to an automatic.
Fast forward to April 2022, Slavia launched. I loved the look of the car and when I test drove the 1.5 DSG, I knew that was the car to buy if i were to pick an automatic.

I got a good deal for my Abarth and I ended up selling it.
Salvia 1.5 DSG had a longish wait of 3 months and there was no guarantee if there could be further delays due to Ukraine war. Decided to test drive Slavia 1.0 AT TSI and I liked the effortless drive and the immediate delivery made it more enticing.
Long story short, I ended up buying it in May 2022.
I did enjoy driving the Slavia 1.0 AT. It was very effortless to drive and had adequate power to drive in city and I have done multiple highway trips from Hyderabad to Bangalore, Chikmangalore, Udupi, Goa, Varanasi, Agra, Jaipur, and more!
I clocked 30000 kms in less than 2 years of my ownership. All this while I continued to wonder how much happier I would have been if I had picked the 1.5 instead.
That itch continued to grow further as days progressed and the AC not being effective in summers despite the ventilated seats left me frustrated. And the car had too many squeaks in the dashboard which never got resolved after multiple attempts at the service center which added fuel to it. The 3 cylinder clatter always bothered me too. Finally, I ended up selling the Slavia in mid March 2024.

This time I decided to think thoroughly about buying the replacement car. Thankfully my brother and my cousin offered me their cars for my work travels to help me take time to decide on my next car. So I took extra long time to decide!

I have test driven the following cars:

Sonet D AT: Well rounded car, Good interiors. Test drove a couple of times, wasn’t feeling comfortable due to much smaller size than Slavia. But mainly rejected it as I wasn’t confident to drive it daily with the Diesel clatter always running. Though Kia/Hyundai had the most refined diesels, I knew I’d be annoyed soon. And also unknown safety is something I couldn’t look past.

Seltos D AT/Creta D AT: Well packaged cars and great interiors. Effortless to drive and ADAS felt good in blind side detection, collision warning etc. However, same reasons as above Diesel clatter and unknown safety ratings didn’t work in their favour either. I didn’t consider Petrol ATs from Kia/Hyundai as I was 100% sure that for petrol I’d only pick Škoda/VW 2.0 cars.

Honda City Hybrid: I genuinely thought I would love this car before driving it. However, somehow I didn’t connect with the car at all and drive felt underwhelming. Small broken patches felt like I was being thrown off the road. I test drove this on the same patch where Sonet, Seltos, ZS EV and I immediately felt this wasn’t it for me. Also significantly smaller boot didn’t help.

Honda Elevate CVT: This was an unexpected TD I did out of nowhere and I enjoyed the drive and also liked the simple yet classy interiors. Too much hood visibility isn’t to my liking and I knew this wasn’t the car for me.

Toyota Hydyder (rejected before TD): No offence to anyone, I couldn’t think of paying such a premium and getting not so good interiors. And somehow the middle passenger seat belt dangling from the roof and extremely thin sunroof cover didn’t impress me at all. And in our extreme hot summers, I can’t imagine driving with sunlight peaking inside all the time. Not sure why they chose to have such a thin fabric for the roof!

MG ZS EV: Loved the drive and interiors were great too. However, EVs are not really there for real highway trips I’d love to do. Which basically meant no EVs yet for me.

Nexon EV: Good interiors and great drive, but just that the EVs are not really there for highway trips. How I wish we could recharge upto 90% in 30 min! One can only dream about it for now.
Punch EV: Good interiors and very good drive, rejected due to same reasons as other EVs.

Slavia 1.5 DSG: One test drive and I knew what I missed in my 1.0 AT. Just loved it and this is the car I enjoyed driving very much and I could have gone with Slavia or Virtus and been very happy. Both cars look and drive great.

Taigun 1.5 DSG: Loved the drive, costs the same as Virtus after discounts and essentially it just came down to the looks and space offered. My wife said why small boot when paying same as Virtus?

In my 2 years with Slavia driving over various types of road conditions, with 4 people on board and boot filled to the limit and I never scraped it. So I was confident, I’ll be fine with the sedan as both Slavia and Virtus had very good ground clearance for a sedan, it’s almost as much as a small SUV.

Virtus 1.5 DSG: Amazing drive! Loved the looks, especially the exteriors. This felt like I was going back in time and picking up my first love Polo! (Which I never bought, story for another day!)
Liked Slavia interiors slightly more, but I was fine with Virtus interiors as well. And my memory reminded me of creaks in Slavia which didn’t work in its favour. (Virtus is not free of it either, more on this at a later time!).

Deciding on the color was the final step.
Although I'm very fond of black cars, the Rising Blue and Lava Blue caught my eye. After some deliberation and seeing the Lava Blue in daylight, I realized it wasn't the color for me. I finally settled on Black and after a thorough PDI, finalised on the Feb 24 manufactured car with 26KMs on the odo. Got the Trumpet horn, mud-flaps and car cover included in the on road price.
Bought 7D mats from the showroom itself. Also, swapped wipers with Bosch ones at Shell.

It’s over two months now and clocked 2500 kms so far. Got the welcome service done and the under body anti rust treatment at the service center. This probably wasn’t necessary, but decided to go with it as I am planning to keep the car for long time.

Desired upgrades:
Blackout chrome bits
Damping
Maybe Speakers upgrade

Hi Kaushik, I too ordered from Boodmo and am waiting on the part to be shipped. Have to wait and see if I actually get it. I ordered this - https://boodmo.com/catalog/part-soun..._lid-58317950/.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

My Virtus has just completed two years.
This is her on day 1 at the amazing mega delivery launch event put up by VW at Jio World Drive in Mumbai.

For anyone planning on getting a Virtus (1.0 liter TSI manual transmission), here's a brief rundown on the ownership and the costs involved.

Some interesting stats below (from a fuel log app):

2 years ownership - 14,320 km
37 is the total number of fill-ups (99% XP95)
Average fuel consumption figures (over 2 years): 10.62 km/l, best fuel consumption is 22.57 km/l, worst fuel consumption is 8.27 km/l
The app calculates these too:

Average cost per kilometer (over 2 years): 10.583/km, best cost per km is 4.997/km, worst cost per km is 13.701/km
Average cost per day is 219.39 Rupees
Average cost per month is 6677.77 Rupees
Average mileage per day is 20.17 km
Average mileage per month is 572.76 km
I thought owning a manual transmission would be a pain to drive, but VW has tuned it beautifully. The smooth-shifting, five-speed manual transmission mated to the 3-cylinder 1.0 TSI engine works brilliantly. 115 bhp may not sound like much, but it's rather explosive, especially in manual spec. The word 'underpowered' certainly does not spring to mind when thinking of it as just a 999cc engine.

There’s not too much lag, and you don’t get the sense that it’s being overworked – it’s impressively refined for a little three-pot in what is not a small car. I have been on drives with the Virtus fully loaded and packed with myself plus three large adults weighing roughly over 70 kg each and have not once found it underpowered.
Volkswagen Virtus Review-img_20230129_125445.jpg

I previously owned a 1.5 liter i-VTEC MT for 7 years and a Vento 1.6 MT, and I have found this little engine more fun to drive. The steering is nice and weighty too, and the smaller (and thus lighter) engine means there’s less weight over the front axle, making it more pleasurable to drive.

Initially, in the first few 100 km, I filled normal petrol, but after trying out XP95, I noticed a significant difference in the engine, mainly in pickup and engine noise. I always used to wonder why VW recommends filling RON95 until I read this: "VW engines, equipped only with direct injection (like the VW 1.0l TSI), have a common problem with carbon buildup on the intake ports and the intake valves. It continuously happens due to the lack of fuel as a natural cleaner in the intake ports. The soot layer restricts airflow, drops the engine output, and leads to serious damage to intake valves and valve seats. The best thing you can do to prevent that problem is just using good fuel (super unleaded at RON 95). But the mechanical cleanup process at least every 50k miles will keep the engine in top condition."

This is her after two years without any ppf or ceramic coating.
And here’s to many more years of ownership to look forward to.

Agreed, that 1.0 L TSi has to be the best 1L turbo petrol motor till now. What an engine though. One has to drive it to believe it. It's got the right amount of character, refinement, punch and efficiency.

Yes, sorry, that’s my bad. I made a typo there. Go for the Virtus; it’s a no-brainer. What Color are you selecting. Try to get the one that has just been updated with 6 airbags.

True that. I recently test drove other 1.0 L cars available in the market, such as the Kia Sonet and the Venue, along with the Tata Nexon. They were not a patch on the VW TSI. VW, on the other hand, has done a brilliant job tuning this fantastic motor, not just the engine but the driving dynamics too.

Interesting numbers those. Been using Drivvo app to track fuel expenses for my 1.0 AT since Aug 2022 (about 26700 kms) and here’s what it shows so far.

Avg. mileage - 12.62 Kmpl (best 30.27 and worst 8.32)
Avg. cost per km - Rs.9.04
Avg. cost per day - Rs.377.89

How did you manage to get 30.27 ? Even during my 350KM highway drive with 60% CC at 90-100 KMPH, I could only get 14 kmpl on my 7k run 1.0 AT.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

I did a 3500 km Pune-Kerala round trip in my 1.5 Manual over the last few days.

All types of roads and terrains were encountered on the way - highways, hills, unpaved roads, broken roads, those terrible narrow gravel roads deep in the hills, anything that a trip like this could throw at us. It was a lovely experience with the car overall, and I got to know a bit more about what the car is about during this trip ( the learning journey continues).

- I did manage to scrape the belly 3-4 times - Mostly when I completely underestimated the height of some of those crazy speed breakers, and approached them at the wrong speed. It didn't help that we were fully loaded.

- I believe the 1.5 is a bit more front-heavy than the 1.0, and that may need to be taken into consideration while going over humps

- Long distance driving is a breeze - we came out quite fresh after 13-14 hour drives.

- Rock solid at 100+ speeds, as expected from a VW. Sudden minor change in directions at high speeds doesn't upset the car ( I generally don't do it, but on highways during long drives, you come across a few instances where you need to do some quick maneuvering)

- I usually kept the speed at 100-110 kph on empty highway stretches, and the engine purrs along nicely at this speed. An occasional push at the gas pedal to overtake etc is met with great enthusiasm. A lot of power available on tap, and that's addictive...

- The engine is two-faced - absolutely quite and refined at moderate cruising speeds, and immediate switch to beast mode once you press the gas. Slow driving through Kerala was a breeze too, and I found the stress levels to be much less.

- The lack of low end torque (below 1500 rpm) can be felt at times when driving through low-speed sections like Kerala, and the solution is to downshift when in doubt.

- I kept getting 17+ kmph on highways over long distances - 18+ in one particular 6 hour drive. Quite happy with that. On mixed drives it gave me 14-15 kph. In very slow city conditions, 10-11, or sometimes lower than that, depending on how bad it is. All on XP95.

- Overall quite happy experience so far, no issues faced. First service ( 1 year ) due in a month. ( need to fix the missing "T" on the front grill that some lowlife had flicked )
