I, too, had a 2011 Global Ford Fiesta Titanium Petrol and replaced it with a Virtus 1.5 DSG last week. I have done about 800 Km so far and am pleased with the Virtus's dynamics. I also had a brief test drive of the 1 L Automatic, and I have to say I was impressed with its drive and handling. It definitely punches way above its weight. Anyway, I went for the 1.5 DSG because it looked like a better package overall.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

I am planning to buy the 1.5 Virtus Topline.

I am in no hurry but I would need the car before Diwali. My question is, should I wait for the facelift, since rumour mills are pointing at a upgrade later this year which will include ADAS, 360 Camera and few knick-knacks?

I would say wait for it. I found the 360 camera and adaptive cruise control very helpful in my Creta. Also, things like auto stop and EPB make life super convenient in stop-and-go traffic. Not sure if VW will provide all of those but no harm in waiting for it. Not sure if Virtus has ventilated seats or not, if they are planning to add it then definitely that is something that you will appreciate.

They already have the ventilated seats and recently powered seats. My wishlist for the Virtus facelift is

1. Adaptive cruise control
2. 360 camera and censors
3. Improvement in rear camera
4. Improvement in interior quality(Rattling and loose plastics)
5. Cabin and hood insulation.
6. Electronic parking brake.

Dreamlist:

1. Mild hybrid.
2. Rear disk brakes.
3. Slight reduction in ground clearance.
4. USB-C ports for front and rear dash cam.
5. Full width instrument cluster.
6. Auto windows for all sides.
7. Remote start/stop with windows open (Specially when parked under hot sun)
8. High bean assist.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

1,800 km done on my 2 week old Virtus 1.0 Highline MT and every drive has been very enjoyable. I keep finding new features every now and then, latest one being - when you drive in reverse, the car is speed limited to 20 kmph! (Missed a turn on a deserted road and since it was narrow, instead of a u-turn I had to reverse about 150 metres) Nifty safety feature!

Already had a couple of near misses in the warzone that is Bangalore traffic nowadays, escaped unscathed only because of the brilliant handling and strong brakes! The stock CEATs give up very early though, the car will be much much better with a better set of rubber. The stock tyres might be good enough for an average Joe, but any enthusiastic driving definitely mandates an upgrade in the tyre department.

4. There are no rattling and loose plastics, may be you got confused with Slavia, which has similar complaints.

5. The insulation is already good, you'll only know you have touched 80kmph when you get the speed warning. The rear seat passengers wouldn't even know you are driving on 100 KMPH unless told. Have checked this with my family in the rear seat.

You can get hood insulation as an add-on when you buy the car.

ELITE Motors, Hosur Road. They even showed me the Kit which said made for VW.
I think it was DHC brand.

4. Got it. I just found the AC vents on the centre to be flimsy in Virtus in one of the cars.

5. I have to disagree here. The benchmark now is the new Hyundai Verna. The Virtus can become noisy on bad roads, the cabin insulation is not quite up there compared to Verna now.

Now guys, please don't pounce on me because the top spec Verna is 2.5lakhs cheaper than the top spec Virtus/Slavia.

Just a correction, cause many people read these threads, the 1.5L TSI Engine is manufactured in Škoda-Volkswagen Pune plant only along with the 1.0L TSI Engine.

Oh! Thanks for sharing. I was always under the impression that 1.5 is imported and 1.0 is locally manufactured, is it the DSG gearbox that's imported then? There were several articles and announcements by senior VW officials in interviews that 1.5 is an imported unit, e.g.https://www.autocarindia.com/car-new...a-india-424408.

Is it recently that they started manufacturing 1.5 in India?

All the gearboxes are imported, but the engines are locally produced, before the launch of Kushaq I think the production started of the engines.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

Hello Team BHPians,

I have driven about 2.1k KMS in the last 10 days on both highways and hill stations, and now my odometer reads 5k. The car performed very well, and I never felt any fatigue even after a 1300 km round trip in a single day. My parents, who are over 70 years of age, told me that they were also happy and relaxed during the trip, and didn't experience any body pain or discomfort.

The ventilated seats were really helpful in this hot climate. Also, if there is no sound alert for 120kmph, nobody could tell that the car is cruising at such a speed. The car is very stable, and I never had to downshift during overtakes.

The AC is effective if the fan speed is set to 2 bars, and I always keep it at 18 or 19 degrees during the day. The sun blinds for the rear seat passengers are also very helpful. I am still in doubt whether I should go for a sun film for the front windshield or settle for sun blinds for the front windows.

I also drove in the hill station with the AC on, and I didn't feel any lag. The brakes are extremely sharp, which inspires much confidence in many situations.

I wish VW had installed R17 tyres for GT(1.5) instead of R16. It would have been a great deal.

I have been inquiring with VW about hood insulation, but I am not getting a proper response from them over email. They did call me back to inform me that they don't have insulation hood for Virtus and Taigun.

Apart from this, I don't have many complaints. There are no rattles inside the car, and the NVH is nil, except for the roar of the 1.5 engine when the RPM hits around 2.5 or above. The car never felt underpowered, even when it was fully loaded with five people and full of luggage.

I am planning to leave the car for its 6-month service/check-up next week. I will keep you posted with more details in the following thread. https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-...5l-tsi-mt.html (An unexpected tale | Moving from our beloved VW Jetta MT to the VW Virtus GT 1.5L TSI MT)

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

Thanks for the update Shiv. What sort of mileage have you been getting so far? When the AC is on, even with 1 bar, I'm only able to extract around 8-10kmpl in the city, even with an MT. On highway trips, the max I have hit is 14kmpl. Not sure if this is on account of Kerala's narrow roads, cause I generally drive quite sedately. Ofcourse without the AC, things are better off by 1-2kmp,l but given the heat we have to contend with, that's rarely an option.

Hello!

During my last 2.1K KMS drive, I managed to get a fuel efficiency of 15 kmpl despite driving with the air conditioning turned on throughout. This drive consisted of 70% highway driving(crossed 120+ multiple times in empty stretches) and 30% hill station driving, with most of the hill station driving being in extremely congested traffic conditions.

I should mention that I am not a sedate driver, however, I tried my best to be gentle during the engine break in period. Unfortunately, with a GT like mine, it's hard to be too gentle!

PS: Filling our Virtus with XP95 only.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

Good to see, a lot of action and updates coming from Virtus owners.

I will be getting my GT Plus DSG shortly.

I have a question - What kind of Sub-Woofer they offer? I removed it from the spare wheel area and it's like so fake! Anyone got any technical data of that sub?
To me, it looks like a mid-bass unit, rather than a real sub!

Thanks!
