• Captain seat layout means just 2 people on the middle row
• Build, quality & refinement are ordinary for a car costing well over a million rupees. Not a “premium” Ertiga
• 3rd-row isn't for everyone as the 2nd-row doesn't tumble forward, making ingress / egress tricky
• Some missing features like auto-dimming IRVMs, sunroof, curtain airbags etc.
I just hate the recent trend of car manufacturers just sticking unpainted fibre pieces onto the lower part of the car, lifting the car up and calling them SUV/crossover. It feels so cheap, that manufacturer compromised on looks while trying to cut costs.

Both XL6 and Carens are great cars. You should test drive both for longer distance, review your priorities on no of usual passengers and max passengers as Captain seats on daily basis is a huge plus. 3rd row equally usable and comfort in both cars. Both have equal comfort but Carens little better in highways for overtake. Feature wise both are competitive with Carens a bit better. Carens top model comes with inbuilt navigation which is helpful as no need to pair phone for android auto. AC is great in both, chills immediately, though Carens gives additional 3rd row vents but XL also chills at 3rd row. 360 degree camera in XL6 is a super duper plus point while in rev gear, parking or in congested road, this option is not there in Carens. Also IR cut and UV protection glass is a huge plus in XL, gives you comfort inside.

Maruti has its own benefits like parts availability, comfort, less cost of ownership, less problems (I am biased to Maruti as this is my 2nd Maruti car ). My family is liking XL6 specially because of captain seat comfort as usually 4 people sit, and 2nd row people get same personalized comfort as 1st row passengers, actually captain seat comfort was the main reason for me ditching a 5 seater and then a 7 seater when we were exploring cars. Kids love going to 3rd row between captain seat. Carens 2nd row one touch seat tumble down option is excellent plus, even a senior citizen can go to the 3rd row. XL6 doors are wide which helps easily getting inside, you feel the luxury there, also foot height to get into car is super comfort even for senior citizens in XL, also window glasses are largest in any car in XL, you feel the outside view. Carens top model comes with air purifier, breakfast tray which is a luxury if you need, pls note air purifies might take 2 inches space for person sitting on back of driver seat (I have not sit on that seat so not sure but I think its taking 2 inch space).

Ventilated front seats are there in both top models. Boot space - same in both. Carens has type C port in back rows, XL has 12V socket. Decide based on your need, budget, and what family likes as kids growing. Both are excellent cars and you will enjoy whatever choice you make

I have finally booked the XL6 Alpha plus Blue colour with Varun Motors Rajaji Nagar, BLR yesterday. Hoping to get my hands on it soon. Thank you for all your inputs on this forum. Greatly helped to narrow down. I will definitely follow the PDI posted on this forum during the delivery.

Five things I would like get post delivery are 1.

Not sure where to get it though. If this could be done by Nexa itself, great.

2. I would like to get a ceramic coating. I got Opti coat in 2012 for my VW Polo by Mohsin in Bangalore (Ultimate Detailerz) and I found it to be really helpful, even after 10 years, the paint quality is solid. I realized the ceramic coatings like quartz finest etc., have become very expensive now, I remember paying less than 10k back then. If anyone could recommend for Opti Coat in Bangalore, please suggest.

3. 3M Nomad mats. These again, I got for my Polo in 2012 from 3M HSR Pradeep and they worked very well for all these 10+ years

4. I would like to get the roller sun shades similar to what you get in Carrens. Nexa provides only the magnetic shades. Not sure, getting the after market roller shades will mess up

5. Jopasu duster

Not keeping the budget aside for anything else apart from these 5. I didn't think of a vacuume as I thought, regular dusting and once a month wash outside is good enough. If you recommend anything that's like a must have, please let me know.

I had got this done from Kalyani Nexa , Banaswadi ORR. Got the engine guard suggested by Leoshashi fitted while taking delivery of my XL6 Alpha+ AT last July. The service advisor was quite aware of this thread at TBHP.
Rat mesh was another thing fitted while taking delivery.

Forget to mention that Carens also has sunroof, this feature is not at all available in XL. There are many more features whch are exclusive to Carens or XL6, you need to close comparision and decide which feature you need and cost impact. Carens definately stays ahead of XL in overall package of features, but you need to drive, compare and decide

Congrats 🎉

Since you have booked Alpha plus, I'd suggest you to not buy sun shades for now. The factory provided tinted glass is pretty good, so try using the car for a while & then decide if you really need shades.

Rat mesh would be a good addition, usually they'll ask you during first service.

If you are planning to purchase sill guards, better go for the ones without any paint work, as it'll go very easily.
Also, check if there are good 3d mats available outside, before going for the one given by MS. I feel the mat used in 3rd row (one with 'T' shape) isn't long enough to cover some parts of walking space between middle row seats.

I've posted pics of both in this thread itself, have a look before finalizing.

For any electronic items like charger / adapter / cables etc better get it from aftermarket. Get a Dash cam also imo.

And like you said, just get the Jopasu duster & you are good to go

Hi Rocky,

Did you manage to source roller sun shades from anywhere.

Question for experts.

I own a Zeta 6 AT & was driving in hills. On a steep uphill turn, Auto box was seriously struggling to climb in D mode. It did not helped that car lost momentum on the turn as well as i tried to reduce speed. I tried switching to lower gear via Padder shifters and it did not dropped the gear despite me trying twice or thrice. I am in dilemma now if this is normal behavior. Is it so that paddle shifter work in M mode only.

Re: 2022 Maruti XL6 Facelift Review

I am interested in the FE of 2022 XL6-AT, particularly in City - worst, average and best numbers. It would be nice if some of you can share this info.

These numbers are not bad considering the fact that you drive through silk board junction.

Re: 2022 Maruti XL6 Facelift Review

I move to M mode the moment we enter a hilly region to spare the auto box agony and confusion. You can hold gears only in the M mode, trying to shift while in D mode is momentary and caused more confusion rather, offcourse until you can accurately predict the behaviour of the autobox.

I believe the traffic is slightly less due to school holidays, especially after silk board till Bellandur.

Assuming you are running with AC on all the time this is a very good FE for a big Torque Converter AT car. Is this due to the mild hybrid? My Santro AT does not give more than 8-9 kmpl.

Re: 2022 Maruti XL6 Facelift Review

Yes, could be due to mild hybrid. My Ertiga used to give me not more than 10 kmpl. I do switch off the smart hybrid switch after reaching crowded areas like Iblur junction. AC is 100% on. Another thing I try to follow is to keep the RPM around 1500 or less.

Regarding highway travel and hill driving, even I switch to Manual and use the paddle shift, which I found better than ‘D’ mode.
