Of course. The Vredesteins have been good so far in all aspects. The Goodyears used to easily give up on hard braking which is gone now, the ride is lot more plush, steering is nice. On top of it, the tyres have also held up well against some hard pothole hits without any damage. So I feel the upgrade is worth it.

Next I'm looking for a racechip piggy back ECU mainly because I need switchable performance and I don't need the stock power output for my regular commute. Its just too much and I will be good with even 50-70% of the 1.5 TSI output. Instead on the days I drive on the highway I can switch to some extra performance

How is the AC cooling now after the software update?

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

I have an 8-inch screen on my Slavia? Is it possible to get it replaced by 10 inch screen that used to come earlier? I know this setup is not available but maybe in future they bring it in as an accessory for the Active variant. There was even some news that Škoda is bringing back the 10 inch screen on some variants of Kushaq. I’m just curious if 10 inch screen and subwoofer setup can be installed later on once this chip-crisis and all becomes history.

I have enquired about it many time. In fact right now I am at skoda service center to collect my vehicle and enquired about the same. There is no such upgrade available from Skoda as of now. It's also not clear when it will be available. Hopefully Skoda provides it at reasonable price soon.

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

Update at about 1 year and 9500 kms - Service experience.
My Slavia 1.0 Ambition AT completed about a year so took it for the first service past Tuesday.
The service centre was Jai Skoda in Gurgaon. Had scheduled it for a weekday hoping for a less crowded workshop but it being some festival, there were more cars lined up than I expected. Nevertheless, these were the jobs taken care of:
  • Basic service items - Engine oil, oil filter etc. Going by what the manual said and what other people experienced, I kept an eye on the oil levels through the past year but missed over the past 3.5-4K. It came out about 150 ml less than full.
  • Air filter- The air filter was only cleaned(!) and not replaced. Both the service advisor and mechanic insisted that it has to be replaced on 2nd, looked clean too. Still unusual for me
  • Wiper blades - The right wiper was starting to leave some marks. Both wipers were replaced. Cost was around 1300 including ~100 Rs labour
  • Balancing and alignment - While didn't feel the need, got it done anyway. The alignment was perfect, two wheels needed minor balancing
  • Wheels rotated - Got the wheels swapped diagonally
  • Driver power window - The issue with auto up and down not working as intended was addressed. This was really very annoying and feels like such a relief now that it is working as intended
  • AC Update - The software update for AC was done. Hard to tell if it has made a difference because the weather has been nice in Gurgaon for the past few weeks. Will find out once the peak summers return. Though I felt like there is more air flowing through the centre vents than the side vents in auto mode now but hard to be sure.
  • Infotainment - I handed them the car with valet mode on (10 inch touchscreen) and when I got it back, the infotainment was reset. The service advisor said that it must have reset because there was an update for it but I haven't read about it anywhere yet. Minor flag there. And even if that was the case, having the infotainment and car clock etc reset is an annoyance. So if it was indeed because of an update, Skoda really needs to do a better job than just resetting everything.
  • Other niggles - There was a minor rattle in the dashboard at times on passenger side, particularly on cold mornings when engine would be warming up at 1200-1300 rpm. The other was very small leak from the front passenger door. Noticed this twice in the past year when a couple of drops found their way inside the cabin when driving in extreme rain. The service advisor said that both these issues along with the AC have been part of the notified updates by Skoda. Both were taken care of during this service. Another minor issue was occasional rattles from somewhere near the sliding rails of driver seat, particularly in winters which they also claim to have taken care of. Haven't noticed any of these again but too early to say for sure.
The service was covered under the four year maintenance plan. I had to pay about 3.4K for the wiper blades, alignment, balancing and the weights used.

They did overshoot the promised delivery time by almost three hours which was a major annoyance. Literally took them from 10 AM to 6 PM to get basic service done and minor issues sorted, which is an unreasonably long amount of time.

That said, the overall experience was still positive. They took note of any concerns that were raised, didn't try to upsell any random coatings or polishes or disinfection or deep cleaning etc, patiently answered any queries I had about jobs at future services, didn't try to dismiss or evade any issues like rattles etc - something I have felt at many other workshops (oh hello Bhavna Ford Mumbai). The time taken was an issue but with my usage of about 9-12K kms a year, taking the car for service is not gonna be more frequent than once a year so can live with it.
With how infrequently I wash the car, I had forgotten how good the crystal blue looks. Too bad the joy of an absolutely clean car after the wash at service lasted for about 30 seconds because the road outside the workshop had turned into a canal with some rain the past evening.

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

Though slightly off topic, but I am in a slight dilemma. I had booked the Slavia back in December. I had almost took delivery, but all this RDE business kept me from it(thankfully I had not paid the whole amount) . Now with the RDE compliant Slavia reaching dealership and Volkswagen hiking prices by 2%, I decided to check the difference between the prices and other features. However with the Highline variant of the Virtus, I get a lot more features like geofencing , remote lock unlock, valet mode etc. over the ambition variant of the Slavia. So should I go ahead with the Virtus or should I keep the booking for Slavia and take the delivery ? Oh, and also, VW has the dual tone cabin. Experts and current owners, please help.

Re: Skoda Slavia Review

It depends upon your liking. The car you liked the most on your first visit in showroom or on test drive may be the one for you as both the cars are same. The slight variations of features doesn't matter in the long run as these are hardly used. If you like sporty looks go for the virtus but if you like elegant looking sedan , Slavia can be a better choice. I was also tempted by better features in Virtus as compared to same model of Slavia. Also I was getting better deal on Virtus but my heart was more inclined towards Slavia so I went for it. So go for the one which you find more attractive and appealing .

Ditto.. Design/looks is a highly personal choice. I was/am smitten by the Slavia's looks. Yes, the Virtus looks sportier, but I absolutely loved the way Slavia looks pretty much in all angles. I'm a big fan of the way the rear looks so tidy, sharp and not overdesigned like most cars today. The VW family face was also far more common, whole the Skoda had more exclusivity.

Yes, I really would have loved Wireless AA, Valet Mode etc but I stepped back and looked at the package as a while and the Slavia became the obvious winner. I was also getting a much better price/deal with the Slavia which made it easier.

I will suggest looking at the whole package and what your heart aches for more

Sincere thanks to Sharon for figuring this out.
I so desperately need this. Unfortunately, no one in my part of the country will be able to do this for me.

Just buy a carista or OBD11 dongle and you will be good to go. You can change whatever you want and whenever you want it

I got it changed from the dealer only and they only charged me for the horn only and not a penny for installation. Hope you get the same deal.

Respected Sir,

Today, I went to the Skoda showroom to enquire about the Slavia.

Interestingly, Skoda will launch a new 'Lava Blue' shade for the Slavia officially on the 13th of April. After some research on the internet, the Slavia Lava Blue shade has been leaked on YouTube.

I have attached the pic below.

Wow, that looks cool, was always wondering if there is a possibility of having an RPM in this view.

@dragntailonfire

Great ... looks so nice with lesser chrome on the car. great choice to retain the alloys as stock.

How much did you pay over all for the De-Chrome and how many years would this last for ?

Love this shade of blue, should've waited for a couple of months for this shade but no complaints about my Carbon Steel Grey Slavia , any news on the Monte Carlo version launch making rounds for a couple of months last year ?
