MG Astor Review
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/official-new-car-reviews/242063-mg-astor-review-64.html)
My Astor is ready for delivery. All going well, I should get it by Monday, 15th Nov.
Variant- Sharp 1.5CVT
City- Kolkata.
Heard from my RM that 3 cars will be delivered on that day. First 3 in Kolkata.
The day my pre booking was confirmed, I had asked my dealer to confirm that I was in the first 5000 and would get the delivery by Nov mid.
He had confirmed that my number is around 890 something... If it wouldn't have been within first 5000, I would have cancelled the booking then and there...
So fingers crossed. Hoping that all goes well and there are no last minute hic-ups.
Sadly since Iam sailing, I won't be present for delivery. So wifey and daughter will get the special treatment on being one of the fist customers in Kolkata to get the vehicle

Did MG told any of its pre-booking customer that they will stop pre-booking after first lot of 5000 bookings? MG certainly didn't tell me so.

They had closed 2021 bookings after the total bookings crossed 5000. Post that while booking online, the website had clearly shown that 'bookings for 2022'. But the issue for people booked for 2021, before this banner came up, is the allotment process which is opaque.
Okay...a naive question - Do you think it's a possibility MG has used substandard parts under the hood (read: parts/components that cannot be seen/touched by the customers)? I mean, the car is crazy value-for-money, especially the base variant. I have always believed you get what you pay for. Ofcourse Mg is not selling at a loss; how are they making money then? Where's the cost-cutting happening?

If you exclude the entry-level variant, Astor is not really a value-for-money car. The top-end Astor(17.4 Lacs) is around 60k cheaper than the top-end Kushaq. If you shell out 60k extra, you get a car with much better driving dynamics, a faster and more expensive DSG transmission (reliability issues of DQ200 aside), a more powerful engine, ventilated seats, a more spacious rear seat, etc. You will miss out on the panoramic sunroof and the annoying AI bot. But, I guess, most people can live with that.
The general consensus so far is that Kushaq is overpriced marginally. All of a sudden, Kushaq looks so much value for money in comparison to Astor!

You forgot to add ADAS for Astor in comparison. Astor is not cheap but at the same time its not expensive too when compared to competition. You gain some and lose some. What floats your boat is what matters in this segment :)

I believe ADAS is an optional extra and not included in the Savvy variant. Hence did not include it in the comparison.

Whatever the model is called, ultimately even with the option, it costs at par with competition which we feel VFM

This is not correct. Savvy is actually Sharp (O) variant and it does come with ADAS.

Honestly it is the other way around. If you've seen and felt the Astor in person you will immediately note that the Astor feels way more solidly built than the Kushaq/Taigun. Of at all I would say the 1.0 TSI with AT is somewhat value for money in the top spec. The 1.5 engine and DSG are definitely better than the Astor and factor in for the higher pricing while MG has focused on savings with a 3pot turbo and AT.
Has anyone tried to see if navigating e.g. u- turn and squeezing into parking spaces is comfortable? I did not see any official turning circle radius.
Also, any official laden / unladen ground clearance? Is 140mm official laden?
Visited Bangalore Lavelle Road Showroom today and again the hospitality was good :)
Managed to test drive 1.5 CVT (a short one here too). It was bumper to bumper traffic and the vehicle was very easy to drive (creep mode does work, but you need to ensure that auto hold is disabled as mentioned earlier in this thread by others).
I am still concerned with the fuel efficiency though, as the MID showed 3kmpl for my 1.8km long (short!) test drive with an average speed of 7kmph. The vehicle had overall done more than 500kms and the average FE shown for this distance was 6kmpl with an average speed of ~15kmpl.

Astor - There's nothing Official about it ;)
All the information we get it are thanks to the BHPians clap:

My SA has shared this earlier with me - The unladen Ground clearance of Astor is 185 mm

I did make sure I got the test drive vehicle home, ensured I could park without much hassle and then only confirmed my booking. While parking is comfortable and having a 360* camera was very handy - no complaints. I felt Taigun to be easier to park than Astor.
I had a test drive of 1.5 VTi Manual yesterday. The white Sharp variant was quite new to the Kochi dealership and its odo had clocked only 267 KMs. The refinement was categorically clear once the car moved out. But the black ivory compo ambience did not appeal to me as I was a fan of black only interiors. I could not get to drive a CVT one as it had been damaged in an accident.
Though I got impressed, but sorely missed the aura which was so much in evidence for the Swift in 2005 and Ecosport in 2014 during their respective launches. Perhaps I am now spoilt with the wide choices around in this segment.
I am struggling to settle between the Sharp and the Sharp Savvy variants as I doubt about the uses of the ADAS feature in my mainly city usage. Seeking some advice from fellow Bhpians here, on this aspect.
Choosing the Silver color was too breezy for me as I liked its swing towards the Greyish shade.

If I could afford, I would go for the savvy just for the adaptive cruise control alone, don't care much about the other ADAS features.
Seconded on the silver! I usually don't like silver color on most cars. But the shade on this is brilliant!
Can you elaborate more about the MT drive?
Acceleration?
Driveability in 2nd, 3rd gears?
Refinement/power comparable to Seltos/Creta/Scross 1.5, or was it inferior?
Any note on the fuel efficiency?
I guess that's too may questions lol:

Can this data be got from say ARAI or any such sources? Don't they have to share it during homologation?
