I recently got my XUV700 Petrol AT delivered 10 days ago and this line resonates with me 100%. My preference was a petrol 5 seater with loads of space, primarily for highway runs. I also have big and bulky equipment (astronomy and astrophotography) that I occasionally need to carry. And the XUV700 fit the bill perfectly.

Normally I would drive with a heavy foot, but on my first trip to Mysore and back with the new car, I set the speed to 100 kmph and let the car do most of the work. It was easily the most relaxing drive I have done in a long time. For those wondering the MID read 11.1 kmpl at the end, which included a mix of city and highway driving.

I am a new comer here and a detailed ownership review and travelogue are in the works and will be shared soon. But I just couldn't resist responding here.

Cheers and happy motoring.

Reality is that there are practically only two SUVs - XUV & Safari - in this value-for-money SUV segment (Tucson, Jeep or Fortuner are way more expensive pay-more-get-less-features & that's for a different category of people). I'm curious: with your experience with XUV so far, if you were to buy today, which one would you have bought?

Adding to that, this has become like a mobile phone release. These car manufacturers need to manage software/firmware releases for each of the cars in their line up equally well. The likes of Google & Samsung didn't have 4-5 years of support till recently. It would be impossible for Tata or Mahindra to match such lofty standards, but certainly they should prioritize their premium cars than others.

No one requires long-term software development for our cars, unlike smartphones. All we need is a basic, stable version that ensures I can use stable features like CarPlay/Android Auto, connecting reliably with my phone every time I start my car. Once I get a stable update, I will never update my car again.

Even Mahindra can remove apps like Mappls, News, Zomato, and Alexa and just give us a stable update; that's all I want. Instead of these apps, I would prefer having Gaana and JioSaavn integrated into the system. All these additional features are unnecessary.

I believe that most people in the market simply require a single, stable software release. I have been exploring aftermarket options, but there aren't many available. Once my warranty expires, I will remove the screen and replace it with a stable aftermarket solution if one is available.

It's futile to have 20 features in your car if none of them is stable. I'd prefer to have 2-4 stable features over 30 features with problems, similar to what we encounter with the Mahindra XUV 700.

I think we all understand your view this matter. An excellent product is getting negative coverage only because of the software issues. From end user perspective it feels really is very frustrating. When I was waiting for delivery I used to tell myself l, family and friends that I'm going to allocate 2-3 days every month for service center visits Hope Mahindra allocate more resources and chalks out a better plan for resolving the issues asap.

The new Tata Safari and Harrier have scored a full 5 stars in GNCAP Test for adult(33.05 out of 34) as well as child protection(45 out of 49) putting down all the skepticism regarding unstable structure.

Finally Tata has resolved the issues with the facelift and have got both Safari / Harrier crash tested.
And even better part is that its scores are actually better than XUV 700.

I don't think the issue was unstable structure. As far as I know, the issue was diesel filter intruding driver ( Right hand drive only ) foot space in case of an accident. This is the reason Jeep compass ( right hand drive ) still haven't been crash tested and only the left hand driven Jeep compass has been crash tested.

Regarding XUV 700 v/s Tata Harrier / Safari, I'll still go with XUV 700 for the other reasons mentioned.

Really astonished and sad to hear about your overall experience with the vehicle. My overall experience so far has been polar than yours. When I bought my vehicle in December 2022 it was a hassle connecting to Apple Carplay but over the period of time the connectivity kept on improving if not ever so slightly, with the latest update being the most significant one.
The latest update seems to have fixed a lot of bugs that were persistent before. Alexa issue on the other hand would only be sorted completely once the esim is changed to a better service provider . Even right now once in a while apple carplay connection drops but wait for a few seconds and it comes back.

Have driven the vehicle for about 10k kms and am closer to owning it for a year, the overall software experience so far :-
1. Blank screen issue (infortainment wont boot up) - 2 times
2. MID and infortainment display suddenly going off during driving(came back again after few secs) - 3 times
The above two were during the first 5k kms.
3. Alexa - works only in the areas where the vi network range is extremely strong. Haven’t found using it for other than weather report.
4. Carplay - After the latest update, it connects instantly even before the home screen of the adrenox shows up.
5. The infortainment system has become more responsive and feels peppy.
6. Sound quality of streaming songs through apple carplay has definitely improved.

Overall the software seems to be in the best state than it has been for the last two years.
Thereby, feel baffled on hearing that the software update hasn’t significantly improved the overall experience especially carplay. How is it possible to that extent that two people on the same version have so much polar experience. I guess this is the question to which only Mahindra has the answer.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

Hi , I got my AX7L P AT delivered a few days ago. I am not able 'Auto/start stop' to work when 'Auto hold' feature is enabled. When the car stops at a red light 'Auto Hold' gets activated and while the break is pressed 'Auto start/stop' also gets activated, but as I release the brake, the car engine starts again and 'Auto start/stop' stops working. I expected that when the car comes to halt, both 'Auto start/stop' and Auto hold should get activated and the car engine stops (without me keep pressing the brake) and when i press the race paddle car engine starts and it moves. Am I missing something?

Congratulations on acquiring your new car. I received mine just 10 days ago.

It's worth noting that auto hold and auto start/stop are two distinct features with different triggers. Auto hold activates when you lift off the brake pedal (to keep you from rolling down the hill), while auto start/stop comes into play when the brake pedal is pressed down (to increase fuel efficiency).

Personally, I find auto hold useful for long traffic light waits, especially in warm conditions where I want to keep the AC running. Using the brake in this scenario would enable auto start/stop, shutting off the engine.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

Hello Everyone,

This question is for academic purposes only because I do not intend to buy a car at all. The question is, which is a better car now - The Tata Safari 2023 or the XUV7OO?

Of course, there are various parameters like speed, comfort, handling, ride comfort, creature comforts, reliability, price (value), after sales, etc etc etc... What do you guys think?

Regards

Driving Dynamics, Suspension, Handling: XUV 700
Engine Refinement and Power: XUV700
Fit and Finish: Mahindra is better compared to Tata
Niggles: Mahindra is better compared to Tata
Looks: very subjective. For me Safari looks better
Fanboyism: Tata. They have toxic fanboyism on social media
After Sales : Hit or Miss for both

I would say that the question is wrong.

Tata Safari and XUV 700 are both equally matched in all areas. It is a matter of preference and what suits you better.

Safety: They are both 5 star rated now. Both built like tank. Both have all major active and passive safety features.

Suspension / Handling / Ride comfort: Depends on whether you like Safari's suspension settings or XUV's suspension settings. Safari is more complaint and better that XUV in terms of soaking bumps in City and Highway. But XUV is not too far behind there. It is more dynamic resulting in better handling. But that does not mean Safari's handling is bad. So they are both 9/10. It is a personal preference on which one you prefer.

Engine and performance: XUV 700 has an edge here on paper. That does not mean that Safari is slow mover. It is equally powerful in most real world driving conditions that a normal person would ever want. Petrol Safari is also launching in 2024.

Interior: They both get great interior design and features set. Safari has few more features with the facelift. But XUV has ironed out more issues / niggles that would start arising in Safari now.

Reliability / After sale: Well frankly if someone want better reliability and after sale, they should focus on Maruti or Honda or Hyundai. Mahindra and Tata have their share of problems here and are equal even in this criteria.

So, like I said. They are both amazing Indian made SUVs and equally matched. They both have their own pros and cons. It is just a matter of what suits you better. There is not clear winner here.

For those comparing XUV vs Safari, sharing the latest Safari price list for Bengaluru.

Lack of AWD clearly shows up in the pricing.

What's your view?

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

Reliability and After Sales Support of Mahindra vs TATA is also subjective. You can't really measure this factor on a pan-India scale or state scale. I would say it is city-wise. In some cities the Mahindra service maybe better and in some others, Tata.

My answer, for academic purpose, is: both are equally good or bad in A S S.
My answer for real-life buyers: depends on your location or locality. Do some real-world research, talk to the owners etc. before you proceed. Internet cannot help you much in this case.

That said, I owned the XUV 500 from 2013-2023 and I currently own the 700 AWD. I have never faced any service issue so far.

With Independent Suspension plus FSD and Stabilizer bar on all four, the XUV700 is way better on paper. There are many complains about the suspension noise in the XUV but there are also many customers whose suspension works absolutely silently.

Agree with you fully on this point. But the XUV engine is never short of breath if you really want to test the limits.

I own the XUV700 for 15 months and my personal feel is that the M&M management is more responsive to customer complains. Personally I have seen that if you can develop a cordial and good relationship with the SC then they will go to great length to solve your issues.

The Safari/ Harrier has issues with the AT box, as reported by many customers on the WA groups.
