I was wondering the same?

It Could be a test specific version with two airbags?
They have specifically mentioned in the test that no side/curtain airbags were present.

Looks like Mahindra has started their PR work for damage control. What's funny is that Karan Johar seems to have hired the same PR agency

Some exhibits from a few accounts used for the PR work. (There are dozens more) Notice how every account has an emoji attached to their name. Likely fake/paid accounts used solely by PR agencies.

Yes, please check post #2980 and #2986 they had shared the same video but it has been made private. Looks like CarandBike has updated the video or something.

Checked CarandBike show's video again and in it there is a XUV700 with all 7 airbags deployed, so very unlikely that AX7L that they used for the side impact didn't have 7 airbags.

I suppose since GNCAP only tests base variants for all the cars they crash test, and both crashes need separate cars as they’re totalled. It is quite possible that Mahindra only had one AX3/MX at their disposal and hence might have given an AX7 for the side deformation test after removing/disabling the curtain airbags. After all they’re basically the same structure wise apart from the airbags.

The image in the screenshot is extracted from a clip from the media drive on August 14th. It was a cut open vehicle to display safety features such as airbags, child seat mounts, etc.

Not only did they not open, the dummy's head went through the door. If the door hadn't bent due to the crash, it would've gone through the door glass. AX7L does come with curtain airbags and their non-deployment is something peculiar.

Keeping that apart, A hearty and Joyous congratulations to Mahindra for achieving the 5 star rating. Their engineers and designers have really achieved something here and it's something all of us Indians should be proud of. Now waiting for their customer service teams to do the same.

Both the tested variants were AX3 only. The video/image with all the airbags is not from the GNCAP crash test. It's B roll (stock video). Please refer to this video, and jump to 18 minutes.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

Tata and Mahindra are like the once naughty students in the last bench notorious for their indiscipline and bad performance, who have now evolved, to everyone's surprise, as the brightest ones in the class.

Mahindra is even better than Tata in the way they price their cars.

A 5 star safety rated, spacious, feature rich, good looking,
powerful SUV at a base price that shames cars from 2 segments lower.

Now, deliver those bookings on time, Mahindra!

The variant tested during the side impact test is the AX7 L variant.

Also did anyone else feel that the car actually overturned after the side impact test?

ah! you're right. I see now. The side curtains not getting deployed is definitely a concern then. I'm hoping that we get some comment on this from M&M as to why it didn't get deployed.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 Review

My guess, Instead of sending 3 cars for 3 tests. They were able to do everything with 2 cars.
Front impact test was done with AX3
The variant used for side impact test is AX7L and looks like side airbags were intentionally disabled. They wanted to test ADAS features as well that's the reason Mahindra has sent AX7L.
