This includes full B2B insurance with the essential riders, basic accessory kit etc

Is this a good price or is there room for more discounts?

Is this in Bengaluru? Would you mind sharing the breakup of the quote, whether this includes corporate / exchange discounts, the lucky promotions you mentioned and the dealership name.

I am planning to book the Taigun too, either the 1.0 GT Line or 1.0 Highline Plus. This will help me in my negotiations.

Yes, this is in Bangalore. Dealership is Kun VW JP Nagar.

From 19.7 onroad price, SA was ready to give at 19.0 during the TD itself, even before any negotiations.

Then from there, I pushed for more discounts, didn't really mention using what, I left it to them, I just said I want it at 18.5L and I will make a booking now.

What helped was I got a verbal quote from PPS VW(have previous good relationship) for 18.4L using the Polo 50 year loyalty program. (You need a family member with Polo ownership proof)

Then 8th March was women's day, so 10k for that if you booked it in a
women's name.

Gist is I don't have a breakup, I just had a price in mind, kept pushing for it, and they were ready to come there(but as bijims mentioned above, maybe this is the norm for Taigun, but not sure), few timed promotions helped reduce the price even further.

Ahh, I see it now. The cutout itself is smaller in the sunroof variants. That's a bummer then, there is nothing that can be done seems like.

This is very helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to provide this information. I am planning to visit the showroom today to negotiate the final price. I will use your 18.2L quote as the benchmark. Let's see how it goes.

@TheRandomGuy, I saw your private message. But as I joined the community recently, I am unable to reply. My first post blew up and showed up on Hot Threads, wow.

I went to KUN VW. The best they can do for the 1.0 AT GT Line is 19L on road. They are not willing to budge from that number.

I am not sure how you were able to get a quote of 18.2L. Maybe the Polo loyalty discount (50K) and the women's day discount (10K) helped. But that still works out to 18.4L, a 20K difference between your quote and mine.

I noticed that Zero Dep insurance and RSA (worth 22.5K in total) are optional add-ons in the KUN price quote. They were ready to include those in my 19L quote. If these were not included in your quote, then that explains the ~20K difference.

Without the Polo loyalty discount, women's discount, corporate / exchange discounts, I guess I am looking at 19.0L on road. Wondering if this is the best deal I can get. I read elsewhere on the internet that someone got a similar quote (~18.9L) in Bangalore recently.

Really? That's quite surprising then.
My quote has all the insurance specs included, I have confirmed it multiple times. I have an exchange bonus of 20k, as I am giving my current car to them. Is this the 20k difference you are looking for?

So what are you going to do? I suggest to wait for it, they will come back. Go to PPS VW on lalbagh road, get a quote from them as well showing your seriousness of buying.

Ah, the exchange bonus of 20K explains it. 19L - Polo discount 50K - Women's discount 10K - Exchange bonus 20K = 18.2L (the quote you got).

The Extended warranty (4+2) and the SVP (4+1) cost ~20K and ~58K. So I am looking at 19.78L overall.

I will check with PPS and see if they are able to come up with a better offer.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun Review

Found out the hard way that there’s no warning in the instruments cluster when the windshield washer fluid reservoir is about to become empty. Mine ran dry today. Bit of a bummer but it’s alright.

This is for the 1.0 GTLine variant. Maybe the Topline or the 1.5 variants have this feature. Not sure.

The owner’s manual – which I found online, not the one that came with the car – mentions that it has this feature which is why I relied on it. Need to check what’s in the manual that came with the car.

In my old City which does not have this warning feature I used to diligently fill it up every couple of weeks or so, hence I never ended up running dry. The irony of having a car with more features

Some general notes on the Taigun’s wipers:
  • The auto-wipers’ 4 sensitivity levels (in the intermittent mode) are okayish.
  • You might as well shift to LOW when the auto wipers are constantly wiping. That makes the wiping action become regular.
  • Even otherwise, the wiping frequency in auto mode is definitely more regular than in the E-class at home, which tends to be erratic.
  • LOW mode is supposed to wipe continuously, but if you’re moving really slow or altogether stopped, the wiping action becomes intermittent. This is clever. Works the same way in the Benz.
  • In LOW mode, I felt the wiping action sped up ever so slightly as the vehicle’s speed increased. But I’m unsure if this is a feature or if I just felt this.
  • If the front wipers are on (LOW/intermittent) and you slot into reverse gear, the rear wiper starts wiping intermittently. I think lots of cars have this feature.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun Review

Am offered a VIN24 Highline MT for 16.2L including RTO, insurance, 2-year extended warranty, the basic accessories kit. Essentially a 1.5L discount over their listed price. This is in TN, by the way.

The vehicle is supposedly Sep 2024 manufactured, which just about fits the 6-month threshold I had in mind.

The dealer insists on the inspection at their showroom and not their yard, even though their yard is much nearer to where I live. Is this normal?

Is it advisable to go with a VIN25 unit for ~1L more?

Taigun has the following official offers for March 2025:

- Benefits up to INR 2 50 000 on Taigun Highline 1.0L TSI AT

- Benefits up to INR 2 36 000 on Taigun Topline 1.0L TSI MT

- Benefits up to INR 2 39 000 on Taigun GT Plus Chrome 1.5L TSI DSG

- Exclusive loyalty bonus of INR 50 000 for Polo owners

- Benefits up to INR 1 45 000 on Taigun GT Line 1.0L TSI AT

- Benefits up to INR 2 00 000 on Taigun GT Plus Sport 1.5L TSI DSG

For the new MY2025 Taigun stock, the brand is offering benefits of up to Rs 1 lakh

So the deal you received doesn't seem lucrative.

Did see this on the VW website and also in their newspaper advert earlier this week. And pointed it out to them. To which they claim that these offers are for VIN24 models and also that their fine print includes the Polo loyalty bonus which does not apply for me.

Still their offer to me only seemed okayish as best. Will try to negotiate further. Thank you.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun Review

Went to inspect a Highline MT today.

The car shown to me had a MOM of December 24 (based on the VIN), and yet the AC unit was manual. The AC unit also performed very poorly - though it was a very hot day and the vehicle parked in the sun.

Supposedly, the AC was downgraded to a manual unit sometime in 2022 due to chip shortage - TeamBHP article, comparable Skoda Kushaq change (Skoda removes 'climate control' from mid-spec Kushaq Ambition variant). Still, every brochure and spec sheet since 2022 lists the Highline with ACC.

Can someone throw some light on what could be going on here? I did put this question to the salesman, and he was adamant that the Highline comes with manual AC, and we had no other vehicle to cross-check. He was also in an unusual hurry for me to decide on the car, though I am in no rush at all.

Are you getting a deal on 2024 VIN model? If no specific reason to go for last year's model, I'd suggest to go for 2025 VIN. No wonder SA is in hurry for you to decide.

AC is manual in highline since late 2024, highline Plus gets ACC. See the attached graphic for a rough feature breakdown

There was a ~80k discount on VIN24 models over the equivalent VIN25. Not very attractive but still wanted to give it a look, since I retain cars for several years, and the model year didn't seem like a huge factor - especially since it was a Dec 2024 one.

As an aside - they structure their discounts in such a way that their heavily overpriced in-house insurance component gets the most discount. Which means, if you opt out and go with your own insurance package, you tend to lose a bulk of the discount. This is probably to strangle you for choice and lock you in. Nice work, KUN.

After a lot of poking and prodding, the sales exec finally admitted that the ACC was removed in Highline models after October 2024. Now I see it's not for nothing that VW removed the variant comparison chart from their downloadable brochure from late 2024 - especially considering the hue and cry made in 2022 when the same thing happened. Nice work you too, VW.

If you don't mind sharing, where did you find this comparison chart?

That's why the discount discussion should happen on the ex showroom price minus accessories, insurance etc.

Dealers inflate insurance quotes or add unnecessary accessories and then revise quote downwards to give an illusion of discount

It is highly unethical for dealer to force in-house insurance. Customer always has the right to chose outside insurance and should be free to exercise that option.
