Re: Volkswagen Taigun Review

I took delivery of a new GT Plus 1.5 DSG WC Red, and must say, the vehicle experience is amazing,

I have been driving a Polo GT TSI (Old) and an A4, and am still mighty impressed by the Taigun's ride. The top end does have enough features to keep me happy, albeit not fully loaded as the peers (Think the Koreans), it has more than enough for what I would use on regular basis. I got it registered as a BH vehicle, which is a godsend for someone like me who keeps shifting locations on a regular basis.

I am thinking of going for a coat for the new vehicle - any recommendations from the owners here, considering VW paint quality is usually a notch above the rest from what I hear? I am mostly being offered ceramic coating - is it worth it, or do the members suggest anything else?

Will post a detailed review soon, happy to be part of the club!

Thanks for all your inputs. Finally went and replaced the wiper blades with ones from a brand called Coozo. 24" and 18" ones at the front, 12" at the rear. Total cost Rs 900

Re: Volkswagen Taigun Review

Quick question to all the owners - I have a one week old Taigun GT Plus DSG - the driving experience has been excellent so far.

I noticed the TPMS keeps showing low pressure in one of my tires (rear right) - this happened after I filled air post taking delivery (2 days later). Post that, I have been getting a low warning error ~ 1 day after filling air & resetting the TPMS - got air filled twice post that at different pumps. I hope it is not a puncture on a brand new car, will get the tire checked - but is there any sort of warranty on the new tires? Anyone else faced something similar?

How frequently do you get your car foam washed?

I also plan to get her some form of 3M / detailing treatment - is ceramic coating a good option to keep the vehicle exteriors in good condition?

Thanks in advance for your opinions

Hey, first welcome to the club. Have recently a 1.0 Auto Taigun too upgrading from a 100cc bike. Faced the same issue as you mentioned and had similar misgivings.

In the 10 inch display, go into settings, should be bottom right corner, you will find tire pressure settings and click on set tire pressure. You will find the error message going away. Hope this helps.

Regards,

Mike

Re: Volkswagen Taigun Review

[quote=Petronius;5783596]Update on this issue. After this episode, one day the clutch pedal got fully stuck. This happened on a highway with traffic on either side of the road. Luckily I was able to use the momentum and slowly pull over to the left by hand-signalling to the bus driver on the left lane. He understood something was wrong and let me switch lanes. After sometime, I was able to pull back the pedal and drove back home cautiously.

Took it to service centre the next day and showed them the video. They said they need to take a longish test drive and record a video on their own when it happens and send it to VW. Fortunately, when the warranty technician came to inspect the stationary car, the clutch pedal went all the way in, I made sure I got the stuck pedal and him on the camera He acknowledged the issue to his supervisor and took the car in without committing any timeline. /QUOTE]

This is a manufacturing defect and there are multiple instances reported in Kodiaqs and Slavias, including mine. It seems this is happening with a particular group of gear boxes which came out from a specific plant at a point in time. My VIN had a recall and they fixed it during the service. It took 2 days. Push them hard. These guys sleep over issues.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun Review

I've completed 25,650 on the odo. Been two years and 6 months, the ownership has been hassle free till date. I did a 6.4k km road trip from Pune to Manali (stayed at Udaipur, Amritsar, Dharamshala, Manali, Jaipur) in the 6th month after buying the car. The dimensions, the 1.0 TSi and 6 speed TC are perfect for my use case.

The rest of the kms on the odo have been a result of frequent Mumbai - Pune expressway runs. I've used tank fulls of Shell and XP-95 exclusively when in Mumbai and Pune and also during my Manali road trip.

I now daily the car from one of the northern suburbs of Mumbai to near the domestic airport, where my workplace is. Bumper to bumper traffic on one instance made the mileage drop around 4.8km/l, while in regular moving traffic on the western express highway, the mileage hovers around 8 - 10km/l. AC is on 24 most of the times. Expressway runs towards Pune get me a mileage of 16 km/l, while coming back from Pune sees around 18km/l.

The car has been serviced at BU Bhandari, Wakad - Pune. The service has been a hit mostly, but the misses have been addressed promptly. Never have I had to leave the car at the service center except for the 15k km service.

This year, I also suffered a tyre puncture while I was on my way to Pune, it was a concerning drive given I'd been babying the tyres almost every time. Didn't fiddle with the nail pierced in the tyre and kept a steady speed of 75km/hr till I reached the IOCL COCO bunk at Khalapur. The tyre service there is open 24/7 and the puncture was promptly fixed by the attendant.

The car stood in an open parking lot while I was staying in Pune. I've observed shallow cracks on the tyre and another puncture incident on the same tyre two days ago has me thinking if I should replace all the 4 tyres with Continental UC6 or Yokohama Earth 1.

205/55 r17 aren't available from both the manufacturers and hence, I might have to source 215/55 r17s. Anybody here have any experience with either of the two tyre brands? I don't mind sticking with the stock MRFs or even bother replacing but, the infamous potholes in Mumbai and the lack of visibility in rain with potholes overflowing has kinda put a dent in my original plan of replacing the tyres around 40k on the odo. Also, the MRFs have the tendency to let out an audible howl while travelling at around 70km/hr.

Thanks Mike.

I did set the tire pressure after filling up from a fuel pump. However, the warning came up the next day for my rear right tire. Then I set the tire pressure once again after filling up air at another pump. Same warning after a day. The tire looks ok though from outside. Did you face a similar issue - do I just set it now in the as is state?

The last puncture that my car got had no warning from the TPMS. I missed a pothole turning right in a rain soaked road, and it was raining heavily so there was no way to know that I was steering straight into a pothole. I parked the car to check for any damage to the alloys and continued driving when I saw everything was fine. After an 80km drive, the car was parked away for the weekend and I discovered the air leak on Monday morning.

It's better to check for a puncture. Usually these warnings pop up when the air pressure is lower than what you've setup in the central display. If it's not a puncture, you can then move on to the next step of diagnosing this error with your service center.

Thanks. Will get it checked. Considering it is a 4 day old car, is it better to check with the VW service center to look into this or a normal tire shop would do ? I would assume this is too small an issue for the SC to look at initially

If it's recurring even now, then you can get it checked at a good tyre shop. Else if you can wait till your 1k service is up, then you can bring this up with your service advisor and get it checked.

I had a flat on day 2 of ownership (Documented on my thread with a picture) It's a simple slow leak that a good tire shop will plug. Fill air, reset the TPMS and drive like the wind.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun Review

Thanks for all the inputs. It does look like the Taigun's TPMS was bang on. I took it to a tyre shop near my office, and bingo - he pulled out a nice long nail from the right rear tyre - exactly the one the TPMS warned me about.

Got it fixed, pressure checked on all 4 tyres, and TPMS set post that.

Note to self and all the future owners - if the TPMS shows a warning, it is good to check the tyre pressure once at any petrol pump (This particular tyre had read 31psi while the rest were at 34 - I did not read too much into this at that time, my bad). If the pressure is lower than the rest, better to get it checked.

Had I reset the TPMS as is, this problem would have been brushed under the carpet, and I would have probably come to know only once the tyre was visibly deflated or fully flat. Thanks once again, happy to be a part of the club

Re: Volkswagen Taigun Review

Hi again, apologies for the double post - but wanted to know if "AirCare" is a feature enabled for the Indian market - I tried googling and looking within Team BHP, but could not find a lot of information.

Does the Taigun have an inbuilt air purifier?

Re: Volkswagen Taigun Review

Hi Throttleflick,

Congratulations on a lovely user experience.

As to the tyres, I would recommend Continental UC6 over Yokohama Earth 1. If you upgrade the tyres, please expect the steering weigh up a little. BHPian sinharishi told me how his steering weighed up bht the ride was more enjoyable through the potholes. You might want to speak with him once.

Wishing you many more happy (s)miles ahead. Godspeed!
