PPV Vs Ceramic - Both offers a glossy finish IMO. A good quality PPF would give you a great finish and durability. There are many threads on the forum about this.

I've been in Chennai and aware of the notoriousness of the auto drivers in the city, been a victim of such events . My choice would be a PPF.
Thanks Raja, I booked Magic black colour and they keep saying it's not allotted.

They are asking me to take a different colour, otherwise I may have to wait for another month.
So, thinking whether to make a compromise given that it's already > 3 months and there's no guarantee I will get Black colour even by next month.

Thanks for the inputs on PPF, will also check with a detailing showroom, at the moment cost is also a major factor for me.

The car is back and continues to drive like a dream. They replaced a faulty chip in the transmission. I do not have exact part details since that’s not mentioned on the bill. While at the workshop, managed to replace FL tyre as well since it had developed a bulge on the sidewall. Good year rejected warranty claim but Tafe did well to get me a goodwill discount on the new one. I didn’t push good year too much since I know I ran into some nasty roads during my trip to kabbini.

Happy motoring folks..let’s hope the errors don’t pop up again.

PS: Extremely happy about how Tafe handed the car back, Spick and span, inside out Let’s hope the transmission work as well is at the same level

Were you able to drive when you had this issue?

Can ceramic coating protect the body from minute scratches from gravels etc.
Definitely go with PPF. The car is sufficiently glossy even with the PPF on. Although I guess ceramic might make it relatively glossier.

The deciding factor rather should be amount of protection offered. I’ve got my car covered with Xpel Ultimate and I can’t begin to describe how much of a relief it is. Peace of mind while driving in high traffic conditions, highways (stone chips) and in general rainy, dusty conditions.
The PPF makes it easier to clean the car too.

Yes. The car behaved normally, just that the error message kept popping up on the dash and ICE.

Something for folks with OCD
My phone has a mind of its own when it comes to Wireless charging (Pixel 6) and I could never really stand the sight of tangle (or even coils) of charging cable

Got this short USB C-USB C fast charging cable and yes, it charges 'rapidly'.

Presents a clean sight when the phone's not charging and just the right length when it is

Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

Hello everyone
I’ve recently been facing certain issues with my July 2022 Octavia
1. This has happened 3 times uptil now. Randomly when I’d enter the car after it has been parked for a while, the infotainment system would have zero audio volume. This includes everything from music, radio, click founds and alarmingly even the reverse parking beeps which is quite dangerous when manoeuvring the car in tight places.
I tried to disconnect CarPlay, reconnect, restart and do everything with my phone, but the problem does not seem to be linked to that. I even reboot the infotainment system holding down the power button but that didn’t solve it either. Turning the car on and off and even exiting the vehicle and entering it didn’t help.
Only thing that solved this problem is parking the car for a couple of hours or overnight, which isn’t really a solution per se since we TS not under my direct control.

2. I earlier mentioned I couldn’t hear the audio gong of the reverse sensors. Today along with audio failure my system showed ‘Error : Park distance control’ the sensor system failed and parking sensors would not work, showing red exclamation marks instead of Parking lines. Auto park and even the reverse parking camera failed.

This is quite disconcerting for me since I’ve hardly covered 250 kilometres uptil now, and the car has been untouched by anyone or anything other than me.
I did scour the internet, and this seems to be a problem with many others, not just in India, and not just limited to Skoda but to VW group cars that have their latest crop of infotainment systems.

Could anyone please suggest a solution to this, and if anyone has experienced these problems as well ?
Thanks a lot

Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

In the digital cockpit, there is an item when scrolled though, which says Backgrounds.
On further clicking it’s mini menu with the arrow buttons, blank options open up.
I had read somewhere that it’s meant for the user to upload their family photo or something, and ofc it occurred to me that it could be used to upload a cool wallpaper or something too, but I have not been able to get around how to upload these pictures, the sub menu is blank.

Does anyone know how to get this to work ?

From what I have explored, the blank options are actually the background patterns/themes available for the console.

Option 1 makes the background completely black
Option 2 matches the color of the ambient light
Option 3 applies a white tint

Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

Long post:

There is a post of selector lever failure. As the OP (Endless) hasn't share the exact part repaired but my hunch is that i had a similar issue.

When all goes good it feels a bliss until you hit a roadblock or one of your fears comes true.

Work has kept me busy and with travelling opening up my octy has been mostly doing less than 10 kms a day.

Why the post now? Well yes there is a update. Nearly 12000 kms done in no time and no issues, until one day driver calls up when i am abroad to say sir some Triangle light popping on the instrument cluster. Oh No! yes those were the first words that pop out of mount. All blues of car ending up workshop playing right in front of my eyes.

Sent the image to few folks who know VAGS very well. Recommended best to take vehicle to workshop. Suddenly at night wife calls up to inform that headlight was automatically turned on and no one has touched keys for past 3 hrs, even the car is locked. No time to waste here, next important bit was send the vehicle to workshop. Didn't wanted to ask the driver to drive vehicle too far, hence reluctantly took appointment with Mahavir at Sanathnagar. Mahavir has bad boy reputation for many decades at Hyderabad.

Cut short story, got a quick appointment for next day, sent the vehicle on agreed time. Painful wait started and was following up with driver. Surprise he has been at workshop for nearly 3 hrs and no one attended the vehicle. Good enough reason to give some peace of mind to atleast get the diagnosis started. What i understood was that vehicle was only hooked up to ODIS post lunch. Half a day wasted. There is nothing more that could have been done other than be at service center mercy now.

Late in evening SA informed that Gear shifter mechanism failed. Was very surprised on this. Some might have asked why are you surprised it's skoda. M answer would be we don't abuse any car. All are very well taken care off. we have owned automatics from VAG stable with zero issues. For gear shifter to fail is also a rare issue.

I knew this part would take time. We got the vehicle released as i never leave vehicle at workshop overnight. Request the Service manager to order part and he clearly set expectation that it might take 5-7 day for part to arrive. Started to follow up every 2 days to track of the ETA for the part. it took 5 working days for part to arrive. Service advisor called up informing about part availability . Booked appointment immediately for next day.

Vehicle was sent back to workshop again there was delay and i had to start following and pushing with service manager directly. Yes service advisors aren't great at communication in this service center to an extent they won't even answer calls.Work started and i had a hunch it might take more than 2 days. Requested for loaner car. We were offered a Rapid and whole day delay on giving loaner is story for another day.

I had only 1 request for the service manager and master technician take your time and get the work done properly.

Post 2 days SA called up to inform that vehicle is ready and can be picked by 12:00 PM but again there was another half day delay in handover of vehicle. Driver got the vehicle back home. I followed up from his short drive that there was no warning sign or any unusual sounds from the vehicle.

Next morning the warning triangle again popped up in instrument cluster. Leg in mouth moment . Stumped! Fuel was also low, but for low fuel warning sign is different. Workshop arranged technician he said best to get the fuel filled. Acknowledge sent the vehicle for refueling and the warning light vanished. Phew sigh of relief. It shouldn't have come in first case but as i wasn't personally there i cannot comment if driver missed something.

All work was done under warranty. Snapshot of bill attached.

So what are the learnings?

Please look out for gear selector issue. This could be a common issue encountered going further. You need to get work done then top down approach still works. Considering this is a CKD vehicle, Skoda support on quick turn around to make part available was commendable. Would i recommend Mahavir to any one? Simple no. Support extended by service manager was very good though.

Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

I have been facing issues where the parking sensors get disabled automatically, and it does not get corrected even after switching on/off the car. It only gets corrected on its own after I park the car for sometime.

Also, two days back, the center console was switched off automatically and not turning on. I tried everything. Then after I returned home, I tried again and that time it worked. It was dangerous parking the car without seeing the rear video amd also without parking sensor sound.

I am just hoping that gear issue are just few of the isolated incidents.

This issue sounds very similar to what sidhgoyal had reported ?
Hoping you can find a fix soon.

Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

Hello everyone
I use my 2022 Octavia mostly on automatic climate control at about 22 C

However about 15 minutes into a drive, my front windscreen starts to fog up near the lower border, in the centre.
This fogging Is from outside since the wipers clear it off.
It’s of course from the AC cooling the windscreen, and the humid air condenses on the outside.
Auto climate control directs air to a lot of different air ducts I presume, which Probably includes the ones near the front windscreen.
Manually controlling air flow via infotainment serves the purpose but that defeats the larger purpose of having automatic climate control and airflow control isn’t it.
I’m a bit skeptical because I’ve never experienced such a situation with any other car.
Has anyone else experienced this problem ?

I've seen this issue on a relative's GLC. It could be that according to set logic and atmospheric conditions, the air flow direction could direct air to other vents. I see no other option from controlling it manually or to increase the temperature, which might change airflow in auto mode.
