Weirdly, the tyre PSI rating is 38 (front) and 39 (rear). We find this way too high and it does result in the ride being a bit on the firmer side (more on this later). I am dead sure that BHPians are going to be happier running their Octavias at 32 - 34 PSI.
Thanks bud for clarifying some of the these doubts. I missed the post on the very first page around tyre pressure, I will get this corrected to ~34PSi and will update the thread if there is any noticeable difference.

Hey Jo, fellow Mallu here from Thrissur.

Congratulations on your brand new Octy. I have been a fan of Octy since my school days (when the first Octy and VRS were launched). Hope you enjoy the drive and munch millions of miles on it.

May I know what is the OTR price for Octavia (L&K & Style versions) in Kerala. Also, if you don't mind, please do shed some light on discounts available, service/maintenance packages prices etc.

Thanks,
Nikhil

Hey Nikhil,

Thank you for the wishes mate!

OTR for style variant is 32.3 including B2B insurance with keyloss coverage (Registration for cars in this price range is absurdly high in Kerala). Will need to purchase the mats etc additional. This in itself was a stretch on my budgets as I had visited skoda to check out the Kushaq while evaluating Compass! So I never bothered with the pricing for L&K tbh. L&K also had features that I could skip. The canton music system for example in the L&K did not impress me at all too and yes I am an audiophile. I still envy the LED headlamps of the L&K variant though

I had additional discounts for my NCB on top of this. Given the revision in pricing from Jan by Skoda, prices may go up by 50-60K is my guess. If you are seriously contemplating a purchase, I would recommend confirming a booking asap and lock in rates as part of negotiations.
I plan to opt for the standard maintenance pack once I get delivery early Jan. No discounts on SMP as this is paid directly to skoda.

Something I highly reco is to get multiple quotes( Thrissur now has a new dealer Gem, in addition to EVM in Cochin and Malayalam who covers predominantly southern parts of Kerala). it really doesn't matter where you get the car from. Pls feel free to DM me if you need contacts too

Discounts are difficult to come by given the shortage of cars currently. But make sure you haggle hard- its our hard earned money. I have had to have a couple of not so pleasant convos simply coz the dealer was acting too pricey. But haggle hard and eventually everything will fall in line ( Gives me the chills when I think of the notorious Skoda after sales service, but thats for later)

I believe if you do a booking now, the earliest you can expect your car should be end of Feb.

Thank you COL. I am planning for a long trip by end of January so till then just enjoying it within the city. Even within the city, it is so effortless to drive that I don't mind taking it out during peak hours.

Though 300 km is fairly a short distance to ask the query, those mud flaps has it scratched any monster speed bumpers yet?
Once it did. It was fully loaded with 5 passengers and hit a really bad patch of road. Not a good feeling for sure. However, I stay in an area where the roads are non-existent, and with 3 people on board, I have never faced any issues.

Thank you. No plan to take it off-road but roads in and around my stay is close to off road experience. Hope you are enjoying your Octy as well!

1. Which dealer / showroom you dealt with
TAFE ACCESS, HSR Layout. The SA Abhishek was really helpful in the whole buying process.

2. What is OTR cost including the discounts
No discounts are available on Octavia due to shortage in supply (semiconductor issue). Only corporate discount was offered to me but unfortunately, my company was not listed. OTR cost for L&K in BLR is 36.46 L

3. The MY22 model has a much lower unladen GC at 135mm. What's your experience with the underbody scraping the lunar landscape masquerading as roads in Bangalore
I stay in Whitefield, and if you have not visited the area off-late, please don't come here . Roads are non-existent and everything is dug up. I still had no issues at all with ground clearance. However, we are a family of three so with 5 people on board and luggage in the boot, it will be a different story. It did scrape the belly once when I had 5 on board and we hit a very bad patch but apart from that one-off incident, nothing to complain

On the PPF I have a much general query. I assume it takes more than a day to get the PPF work done. How long does it take and I wonder how one feels leaving a brand new car at the interior place overnight. Sorry I am one of those picky guys who wont even give my car to the valet or let the car lie around in the official service station overnight. So don't mind my strange query on this subject.
It's not a strange query, I can relate to it very well. Yes, it's a little unnerving. My car went straight from showroom to detailer. It takes 3 days to get PPF done and I visited the detailer every day. I would suggest do your research and choose a professional detailer with good reviews. If possible check out their work by visiting their workshop. I had a good experience with Cars Buddy.

Thanks Rahul. PPF cost was 1.1 L including alloy wheel coating and hydrophobic coating on all glasses and came with 5 yrs warranty. I did not consider ceramic coating as PPF has self healing properties for minor scratches and swirl marks.

I got all tyres filled with Nitrogen at 38 PSi as it was mentioned on fuel lid for a decent load of 3 adults but the ride still feels tad too firm to my liking. One of the reasons for buying this car over my city was some added comfort but I feel that an 8 year old car was soaking bumps and undulations more efficiently than this one. (Although I still blame the tyre pressure for this and I hope it will be rectified)
Trust me, take it to 32 PSI and you would love the ride quality. I have driven mine at 39 PSI and 32 PSI and the difference is quite significant.

Thanks folks, reducing the tyre pressure really helped. I drove for about 30kms post reduction/correction and the difference in ride quality with much needed softness was apparent. Cheers!!

To current owner of Octavia, are you able to use Satellite Navigation? When I checked with SA, he told that it is not yet activated for Octavia and will come as software update.

There was some discussion around this topic on Twitter a few months back. Here's the link.

Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

Heartiest congratulations Rahul on an amazing car. I wish you and your family great many miles on it.
I heard Delhi and Goa has a lot of stock on hand so discounts are on offer at the year end. In contrast my cousin needed a lot of haggling for a adequate discount in Mumbai, especially with only 2 dealers in Mumbai now.

Thanks Omkar. Even if it wasn't for the ready inventory, I think they had a few cars allotted due to which we were able to get some discounts. Although I didnt mention in the original post, but I had been able to benefit from corporate discounts like the one with AmEx and some discounts from 50% NCB from previous car which resulted in these final prices. However, I totally echo your sentiment wrt very low discounts in Mumbai. I too got the sense of it from my visits to both the dealerships in the first week of December.

Skoda is looking at introducing new variants of the Octavia, Superb and Kushaq this year. The Sportline variant perhaps?

Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

Anybody on this thread with experience accessorizing Octavia at the time of delivery? In particular, I am looking to get the chrome strip running between the fog lamps done on my style variant. This is a default on the L&K variant. Strangely enough the dealer in Cochin is clueless on the pricing and if this is even possible. The only response I get even after a week is "Sir, we are trying to get details on this. This is your first German car, the ownership experience is very different". Where is the rolling eye smiley? :-D

I heard the front chrome strip costs 11,353Rs. This part is made of 3 individual components, the left and the right chrome part costs 3380Rs each and the center part costs 4593Rs.
Here's the link to buy this set on Skoda-parts.com

I also came across these exhaust tips on Milotec for the rear bumper for €134. Heard they ship to India for €35 more.

Kopacek.com has a lot of parts for Skoda cars, but you'll have to first get them shipped to one of the countries they ship to and then get it shipped to India

Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

Happy to end 2021 on a high note – took delivery of my L&K Octavia on 30th December from TAFE Access Skoda, St Mark's Road.

I was looking for an upgrade without sacrificing whatever my GT TSI stood for and i have been selective in looking at options - started with Karoq which I checked out at the same TAFE Access in 2020, where I was acquainted with Mr Rakesh

After more than a year, I resumed my search for a new car and warmed up to the Octavia (which started as a cursory visit only) at the same dealership and through the same contact Mr Rakesh

The trigger (which actually resulted in the booking rather suddenly) was the evaluation of my old car at the dealership, which was transparent and fair. A compliment on the good condition of my 7+ year old, 72K kms run GT TSI and a fair exchange price without haggling greatly enhanced the buying experience

TAFE Access were very accommodating and flexible with my priorities comprising
  • MY22 model/recent VIN
  • my choice of Fastag (ICICI)
  • matching my rates for insurance (Royal Sundaram)
There was no stone left unturned in making the process easy and convenient, resulting this is within a month of when it all began

I am still coming to terms with the sheer refinement and fit and finish, of what is head and shoulders a segment above my previous car. The way controls and the driving experience fall in place to a VAG owner is the other positive aspect. Looking forward to more experiences and sharing!

First congratulations on booking. Style variant is a great value for money.
Oh yes been through the path and decided to drop it. Chrome strip cost around 9k approx. Yes that's right once those numbers hit the part of brain it froze for some seconds. Shock lagaaaaa

Had a unplanned road trip to Nashik. It was just decided a couple of days before and given the current condition decided to drive down. It was 3 folks and loaded luggage with 2 suitcases and other nick & knack.

This mean machine loves highways with good roads. Feels like a flying carpet. Overtaking was breeze with some requiring to engage sports mode. Bad patches were the one i had to slow down and those innova & fortuner of the world were flying on it. Suspension setup is very well balanced for the indian roads. Suit well for the folks who don't want a bone jarring ride and want to keep back seat occupants equally happy.

I was little hesitant with lower GC of the vehicle but it didn't scrap even once. Current set up doesn't have mud flaps though.

Does it mean everything is great? Following are observations on Style variant
  • One of the critical short comings is the definitely head light on lower beam. Both the throw and brightness wasn't sufficient and always needed fog logs to be turned on.
  • Ventilated seats were sorely missed.
  • Would definitely prefer physical buttons for temperature control else you have to take eyes of the road to do so.
  • There is no haptic feedback on center console. Is there any setting for this?
  • At this price bracket current ADAS feature set like cruise control feel spartan.
  • With such glass area heat is unforgiving. Doesn't come with window blinds. Skoda has gone lengths in cost cutting for a 30 Lakh car. I wouldn't have mind to shell out if there is a accessory available. Even here skoda doesn't support much.
  • Why no cigarette lighter? Ok given that one doesn't want to provide this then why no wireless charging pad? Doesn't feel short change here.

At the end how much does it give? Oh yes with petrol prices hovering more than 100/rs a liter it is a definitely a good question to ask.

Drive from Hyderabad -> Nashik didn't do above 100 km for 95% part of the journey.

Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review-towards.jpg

Return journey had to be faster as the route was different and broken patches meant slowing down a lot. 90% of journey was below 100.

Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review-return.jpg

Following figures returned are very decent for a 2liter engine. For the folks who are able to crack deals below 30 big ones this is one of the best German vehicles to drive.
