Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

Hey Folks, the 2nd annual service for my car is due this month. I am contemplating taking a ~3000km Gurgaon-Mumbai round trip in the car. What's your recommendation for undertaking service wrt to scheduling the trip i.e. service before/after the trip?

PS: The car's ODO is at ~12000 KMs and my usage is less due to the addition of an EV for most of the city duties. Octavia is mostly used either for weekend drives (100 kms a week at max) or some long-distance drives.

Considering your car has already run 12k kilometers and the service interval is 15k kms and you are planning on a 3k kms trip, it's better to get the service done.

Engines consumes some oil over time so there might be a possibility that your oil level might already be a bit low. Please check that before if you go for your trip.

Thanks for the inputs, though my last service was done at 6k ODO with an oil change done as well, I will probably just check with service for brief inspection followed by service before the trip if insisted by them, else I can do it after the trip. My itinerary is expanding so might as well complete with 4k KMs round trip.

Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

Hey guys, I'm considering getting damping done on all four doors and the floor of the car. Mostly to reduce outside sounds even further, and help bring the Canton sound system to life.

I have two questions:

1. Does it void the warranty?
2. Has anyone gotten damping done on their Octi? If so could you share your feedback? Eg: which damping material was chosen, how did it impact NVH levels, sound quality of the sound system etc?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

Close to the 30k odometer 2 year mark, I noticed the low key fob battery warning. The warning first appeared in the instrument console (which I missed to click) but very explicitly highlighted in the infotainment too

The (digital) owner's manual has clear instructions and I have been carrying a Panasonic CR032 cell in my wallet from day 1.

Following the instructions it is very easy to get to this stage without any tools (the physical key can pry open the top cover with ease)

Here's the tough bit (as I imagined doing this mid drive from inside the car) Prying out the battery was easier said than done and it needed a mobile sim tool (which I had at my desk) to pry open the battery. How does one manage this enroute! The battery literally popped out with the slightest nudge from the recess

Putting the battery back is just a straightforward press (no complicated manoeuvres thankfully) and so does the plastic cover snap back into place

Quick Update on My Octavia MK4's 2nd Service @ ~27,000Kms:

I went to Skoda PPS Okalipuram (BLR) on a Saturday for its 2nd Service. I made a prior appointment and reached the service station before opening time. Service was completed quicker than expected. The car has been great so far, and I only made two requests to check/clean the brake pads and check for new software updates.

Waiting for service station to open

Underbody view
Jobs Done:
1) Full pre-inspection of the car, including the underbody. The SA also checked the glove box, which was replaced under warranty last time. To my relief, there was not even a single scratch/scrape mark under the car a testament to its adequate ground clearance.
2) Air filters Replaced. (Both Cabin and Intake Filters).
3) Brake fluid Inspection and replacement.
4) Engine Oil and oil Filter replaced.
5) Brake pad inspection and cleaning using Wurth brake cleaner and compressed air. I was surprised that the brake pad thickness was almost 75% remaining even after running more than 27,000Kms.
6) Vehicle diagnostics was connected to perform a service reset and to check for new software updates. There were no new updates, but I've seen other Octavia (MY23) with different console layouts.
6) Final Test drive

The total bill was zero because of the service pack, but I paid for the brake cleaner spray. Cost without a service pack is estimated at around 15,000 to 17,000. SA checked with me if wheel balancing and alignment were required, but I refused as I had wheel alignment, balancing, and rotation done a week before the 2nd service appointment.

As usual, after fresh oil in the engine, the car feels like new. The engine is running smoother than ever, and the trigger-like acceleration is more noticeable (Or maybe it's just me). I never get the car washed at ASS and always prefer my trusted car detailing place.

Overall, the ownership experience has been great, and I'm keeping an eye on the issue highlighted by other Octavia owners in the forum. I have only faced one issue so far which is with the memory function of the driver-side seat (A VAG thing), but that is for another post.

If you got the first service done at 6,000 Kms, 2nd service should be at 6,000+15,000 = 21,000Kms. So if the car is currently at 12,000kms mark then you can complete your trip and then get it done around 20,000kms. But if the car has completed 2 years already then get your 2nd service done before the trip.

I have grown to not take any advice given by the sales representatives as they don't have the accurate information. I usually follow the labels present on the car or recommendation in the printed version of the owner's manual.
Based on the label on fuel lid I always use minimum 95 octane fuel.
XP95 is widely available nowadays. I use the Indian Oil app to plan out my trips as XP95's availability is increasing day by day. There is also news of HP's Power being replaced with 95 Octane in all of their stations.

Also please checkout Team-Bhp's post on Octane ratings here- https://www.team-bhp.com/news/explai...ifferent-fuels
It mentions mixing of 91 and 95 octane fuel.

For the MK4 Octavia 2.0 TSI minimum rated fuel is RON95 so it's better to go an extra mile to find the octanes you need.

Good luck!

Did anyone notice alan key slots to adjust the headlights in L&K variant (AFS)?
I wonder if it can be set at the base level and AFS adjusts itself from there. Do shed some light if anyone has clue around it.

There you go
Got this warning for both my Keys a month or so back.
I did order the batteries but got stuck at exactly the same point.
Looking at your post, tried to use a small screw driver to pop out the battery and it worked. Thanks for sharing

Re: Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review

I got my car serviced yesterday, I was in 2 minds about whether I should get the car serviced before my upcoming 3500-4000 km trip or after, since I was due to service in December but my running had just been 5k km in the past year. I inquired about the cost of the inspection with a plan for servicing once I return. However, I was quoted Rs 2500 for it so it didn't make at all to me. Proceeded with the usual service and booked an appointment.

I am without an SMP package. The bill came around ~18k which is quite steep. I chose very basic stuff including service, oil change, Air intake filter change, throttle body cleaning, brake fluid top-up and rodents repellant spray in the engine bay. The washing was not complementary (~600-700) so opted against it.

I also had to drop wheel alignment and balancing as the duo cost me a whopping Rs. 2500 up from Rs. 1500. Will now get it done outside. The Engine Oil quote was shared as 8190 (up from 3705 last year). Upon having a strong stand against such an increase, they came back and said that the price was ~3800 and there was an error with the new billing system.

As per the SC, Skoda is running a pilot in GGN and basically what they are doing is taking away the VFM and making service costs like premium German brands. Happy for those who chose SMP and best of luck for future expenses for folks without SMP like me.

Talking about service, the car is great so there is not much to complain about. The left door panel had some squeaking sounds, and that was addressed. Overall the car is running as smooth as a hot knife going through a butter. Feels new and revived. Cheers!

Thank you for the tip! (Indian oil app for identifying xp95 outlets) I have been at my wits end at times driving in and out of IOC outlets not finding XP95 (especially when the monolith display was not visible), much to the pump attendants' amusement!

For me the challenge is not within the city but outside.
For example last time when I had been to Pondicherry some 6 months or so back, I stopped at a IOC bunk.
While filling, the attendant told me that the XP95 was 2 years old in the bunk.
He said only Chennai vehicles are interested in XP95, so they just maintain some stock for them.

This worries me more than the availablity itself.

Hello folks, I have been trying to import the original floor mats for my Octavia but none of the foreign sites ship it to India. Told the Chennai service center that I am happy to pay the full amount and wait but they don't want to help. Any suggestions or any other floor mats that you would recommend?Skoda Octavia 2.0 TSI DSG Review-screenshot_2023122320080062_6012fa4d4ddec268fc5c7112cbb265e7.jpg

It's somewhat understandable why the service center is not willing to help, the car is unfortunately not in sale and nobody wants to have dead stock.

Regarding getting these mats from India, you may want to try with the accessories department of different showrooms than SCs and see if they have a dead stock. Given that the car is not in sale anymore, they would be eager to dispose these off. You can try with other states too and try to see if they would be willing to courier them.

Alternatively, you can try this link: https://www.kopacek.com/Skoda/OCTAVI...HD#description. I have not bought anything from this website but have seen mentions of purchases by folks on this same thread.

Personally, these are perhaps the best mats that I have seen and do consider getting the central transmission bump mat too. Cheers!

Thank you both! Got 2nd service done and had manouver breaking tested by the ASC. Good news is it it worked. Tested while reversing with a cardboard box but strangely enough the 'technical expert' was insistent that it works only with auto-hold enabled which I thought was strange- what happens if I drive without autohold? Also in your experience does it work while driving both forward and while reversing?

After the 2nd service, car is butter smooth and brings a grin to my face everytime I drive. Also got the glove box lid replacement approved and now waiting for the part to arrive (ETA 2 weeks). Additionally, got a 3M car interior cleaning done at the ASC. With the alcantara seats and interior, highly recommend it. Its expensive and close to 3K, but the seats look almost new now and I consider this as an annual affair now since I had the same done for my first year service too.

A newer niggle to sort out though is the infotainment randomly playing audio while driving and when doing so, increasing the volume by itself. This has started only in the past few weeks- had reported while servicing and they weirdly said everything is okay. Since this happens erratically, is also an issue that is difficult to replicate. Plan to get it checked when going for the glove box lid replacement. Meanwhile if anyone else has experienced this and has a solution, would love to know.

Next service due at 15K kilometers or another year. I am dead sure I wont drive 15K kms but its nice to have the peace of mind of long odos.

For those who are thinking extended warranty, enquired about extended warranty and was told its currently 89K for another 2 years.( 5th +6th).

Pic below from our short trip this week, the stance is drool worthy and the octy is ready to pounce

I have had both the keys drain battery very early into my 2nd year itself. Was also strange since we barely used one of the keys. Have switched to Duracell CR2023 ( very difficult to source here in Cochin and Amazon orders in packs of 10!) and found them to be better than the panasonic since my replacement panasonic also ran out of juice fairly quick.

We replaced batteries the first time at the ASC and was charged a whopping 230 bucks including labour, GST blah blah for a 40 Rupee battery. Like shared here, its a simple DIY if you have a SIM ejector tool. For those trying out the first time, be careful with the spring that keeps the push button on the side of the key in tension. Make sure it doesn't fly out (as it almost did for me ) and I was lucky enough to catch it
