Re: BMW M340i xDrive Review

We have managed to clock 1350 kms in less than a month (City driving only - No highway runs yet).

A few questions/observations:

What is the ideal tyre pressure for city driving (Mumbai) - currently at 40psi.
Planning to increase gradually to 5500rpm over the next 500kms and then the limiter for the subsequent 200 kms. Haven't engaged sport mode yet. Is this ideal running procedure? Has anyone changed the oil and oil filter at 2000 kms?
Does the 80/120 chime delete affect the warranty of the car? Since we have paid for the 6yr BRI, would like to be sure.

Thank you all in advance.

Gosh. I don't have M340i specific perspective but 40 psi just intuitively sounds really high and I can imagine the ride will be really harsh. Why don't you try 36 psi at least to start with and then see what's providing a good balance of comfort and driving.

I would defer to owners to weigh in though or someone like Akshay1234 perhaps to contribute given his experience with a wide range of such models.

Hi R. P. M.

Firstly congratulations on getting the M340i, arguably the best sports sedan in the market in India currently equipped with that gem of an Engine.

I too have the M340i and have done over 22K kms already over 23 months of ownership. I usually run the tires between 34 - 36 psi and find the ride much better as compared to 40 psi.

Please note that I have Michelin PS4S tubeless and they offer a far superior ride to the RFT's that come standard with the Car.

With Modern Engines, there is no real need to change oil at 2000 kms. Having completed 1350 kms already, I see no harm in occasionally revving up the engine to its redline though it's a good practice to be well below the redline till you cover 2000 kms. Problem is the Car and Engine both beg to be driven hard.

Cheers.

I would keep the tyre pressure at 30psi all around inside the city. And raise it a bit for highway runs. Keeping in mind good ride quality, and also the tyre splitting potholes that will pop up in this season. You may need to change the tyre option to other, and reset the tpms system to avoid an error with this lower pressure.

Re: BMW M340i xDrive Review

Can anyone who bought the M340i recently share what sort of discount they were able to negotiate?

Re: BMW M340i xDrive Review

Congratulations on your new car, you won't regret it one bit!

I don't mean to contradict others, and again your experience will vary due to road conditions and where you drive. For me, 40 PSI on the RFTs works best. Any less and it becomes even more jarring. So, I stick to 40 and it absorbs most of the smaller potholes and bumps. Still need to slow down for the major ones.

The way I think about these tires, they are like the cycle tires we used to have on our pseudo-racing cycles as children. Because they were very thin, they needed to be filled a lot more for a good ride. I guess the same principle applies (layman explanation).

A few questions/observations:
Hi, my perspective on these questions (I've had an M340i since September 2023, and its my daily drive).

1. I keep the tire pressure at 39 / 40 psi. I've found 39 psi works when I know I'm going to be using it every day, and I keep it at 40 psi when I am traveling for a week or more in any month. I have the stock RFTs, and am still mulling the switch to tubeless.

2. Obeyed (with great difficulty) the RPM limitations till 1,000 kms were done. After that have just driven the car. It's a lot of fun. I use sport much more rarely than I like, because I dont find roads on which I can safely "unleash the beast".

3. I was told coding the chime out would affect warranty. I don't find it too obtrusive (but then I rarely go over 120 kmph). I find that 110 - 120 is the sweet spot (other than some momentary (and very very temporary) heavy right foot action).

Hope this helps.

Re: BMW M340i xDrive Review

Thank you Axe77, AAD, Akshay, Bemywings and Warlock.

I'm going to drop the tyre pressure a bit a see how it feels. Will hold off on the chime coding for a bit until there is some clarity.

Don't drop pressures to values lower than recommended. You'll blow out your tyres/alloys much more easily and even the ride will not get that much better. Stick to BMW recommended pressures and if the ride is unbearable, get tubeless tyres instead.

My 2 paisa on this, don't! I've tried it and it made the ride worse (which is also why every week, when I fill fuel, I top up the air to +1psi of what the BMW app suggests because I've realized that the machines at the fuel pump have a -1psi error margin).

Plus, as d3mon states it makes your rims more prone to damage because the tires are softer (due to lower pressure) and we don't have the luxury of higher profile tires to absorb the impact.

If the ride is unbearable, just swap out the RFTs for PS4 tubeless, will be far cheaper and less of a hassle than trying to fix rims, air leaks and help you avoid the rest of the rigmarole.

Oh, the pleasures of owning an M340i in India!

Re: BMW M340i xDrive Review

Guys please stop switching from RFTs to tubeless.
My 3GT lost both right side tyres travelling at about 100 kmph because of some sharp object in the road. The car did not swerve even a bit and remained very stable. Drove to the workshop about 5kms away for a checkup and then to the tyre shop about another 10 kms away.

My car is on RFTs and I'm glad I stuck to RFTs during the last tyre change and will continue to do so for as long as I own a BMW (probably forever. Love them)

Even whenever I get the 340i I'm going to stick to RFTs.

Unable to reply to your private message, either I'm not allowed to or I just can't figure it out. Apologies for my late reply, I was travelling. Yes I have a pre LCI-M340i in Hyderabad. Happy to give you all the details and excited discuss the car - want to DM me another way to reach out to you?

As a general matter, best to share such information on the public forum itself. A PM helps one member while a helpful post benefits the entire Team BHP community.

Thank you.

Re: BMW M340i xDrive Review

The car completed 3000 kms today and it has been amazing all throughout. I've learnt a couple of lessons along the way:
  1. Don't buy a racehorse and expect it to ride like an elephant (comfortable and mushy)
  2. Conversely, when we buy a racehorse, we can't expect it to drink fuel like a sparrow (not that sparrows drink fuel, but you get the drift!)
  3. Finally, we paid a lot of money, so let's enjoy the fruits of our labor and stop worrying about things we cannot control
Just my 2 paisa, fill the air pressure as recommended. It does help to a large degree.

Photos will follow shortly; I've been a bit behind on that.

Attached a not so recent quote I got from a dealer in Punjab about 2 months back. It was for a Nov 2023 make.
