Re: BMW 3-Series Gran Limousine Review (Long Wheelbase)

Didn't know you can fold the rear seats in the 3GL (G20). Can someone tell me how, if its possible?

My apologies, I was talking of my SWB G20 330i. I am unsure if the 3GL has folding seats.

Re: BMW 3-Series Gran Limousine Review (Long Wheelbase)

Is there some sort of a hybrid set up in 330Li ? Eg. brake energy storage ? I ask because in eco-pro mode, there is a battery graphic on the driver display and when I am coasting the fuel economy indicator bar moves towards the battery icon.

Nope. May it be indicating battery getting charged?

Re: BMW 3-Series Gran Limousine Review (Long Wheelbase)

I checked with Duestche Motors in bangalore and they have the BMW eye 3.0 available now for 63K. It's available for almost half the price in Germany:
https://paddleshifterz.com/product/o...-21-5-a44-493/

I checked with them if they'll be able to install it if I procure the hardware from Germany in a sealed box, and they say no, stating that the Govt of India doesn't allow them to do that.

Am I the only one who finds this excuse shady? Or does GOI really impose such regulations?

I think best is to go for DDPai/70Mai, pick a model that suits your budget. The quality is decent and VFM. Unless you have made up mind on advanced eye, have a look at these cheaper options.

I was trying to avoid dangling wires in the car, so thought of going for the overpriced BMW one (I can literally buy 2 entry-level DSLRs for that amount, lol). 63k is way more than what I'd like to spend on a dashcam.

Are there any tricks to conceal the cabling for the third party dash cams, without affecting the electronics(warranty) of the car?

Thanks for the suggestion on DDPai/70Mai. These do look better than what I'm able to find in the dash cam market.

It's extremely shady, there are no such regulations stopping it. This is the dealer looking to push his own product and earn maximum margins.

I do agree that anything from Viofo, Ddpai, or even something premium like Blackvue would be better than this, and significantly cheaper. Perhaps you can get it installed outside by an expert?

Why do they blame GOI for everything? Earlier, they said BMW didn't have connected car tech coz GOI didn't allow. It just seems a convenient excuse that is costly to prove false.

Check this website out, https://fitcamx.com/ and search for the integrated dashcams.

It’s a simple plug and play dashcam.

Thanks, looks neat. Concept is interesting, although BMW might still get a panic attack just because you dared to dismantle the IRVM cover and replaced the rain sensor plug with a bespoke one.

Anyone have actually experience of this unit?

I have splurged on the Advanced Car Eye 2.0 for my G30 but to be honest I get better quality of videos from the 70mai a500 installed on the other vehicles. The BMW logo is the only reason to want to go OEM.

You can always get the 3.0 version from Germany if you have the sources and get it installed by any car audio/ dash cam installer outside, it will be a lot cheaper than the 18000 BMW charges for installation.

Edit: Just checked your link...

It's working out to 440 Euros inc shipping by the cheapest method = ~Rs. 38000
Plus customs duty + UPS handling charges for those duty payments depending on your luck and the examining officer can be anywhere between ~ Rs.10-20k
Plus your installation fees... 2k if done outside or 18k at BMW

It might work out cheaper and a lot less headache just getting it from BMW India or personally I'd suggest a 70mai.

I'm almost certain that they'll say that Govt of India will confiscate my car if I do that.

The oblivious me thought they'll install it for free when I'm spending 1% of the car's price on a couple of cameras.

I think I'll just get a DDPai/70Mai, and focus on concealing the wires as much as I am able to.

Thanks guys! Really appreciate the responses!

Re: BMW 3-Series Gran Limousine Review (Long Wheelbase)

Cross posting my post on another ownership thread for reference:

BMW has discontinued RFT’s on the 330Li and the 320d models. They now come with tubeless tyres as standard fitment from the factory.

The M340i will still continue to be factory fitted with RFT’s.

On the model hierarchy (regular mainstream models), other models below 3 will also have tubeless tyres. The 5 and above will continue with RFT’s.
