Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Has anyone received calls for a fuel pump recall from TATA ? I own a APR 2023 manufactured vehicle and was asked to visit the nearest service center.

I could see that the recall is already being discussed on the Harrier Ownership thread.

Do you have the pictures of changed parts for the betterment of the Team-BHP users. Did they changed under warranty or were you asked to share the cost?

What was the cost of these replacements?

Sorry I didn't take any pictures. I was charged for the belt. Auto tensioner was replaced under warranty. They don't return warranty parts. Was given back the belt only. Total cost of repairs was around 6k and I paid around 2.1k.

No, I haven't received any calls yet. Mine is a Apr '23 manufactured as well. I will have to check with my SA, if my car is part of the recall.

Advisor said the left pull issue has happened to some vehicles at the very beginning of their ownership and if I do not have it after 6 months then I should not be worried. It shows that the issue comes factory "fitted" and does not develop later.

Mine too is an Apr 23 manufactured safari. I received the call and got it done. They took about two hours. My car needed a minor adjustment in the fuel pump pulley alignment. I did not face any issues before or after the work was done.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

So, got my Safari XZA+ Adventure delivered yesterday. Overall a very pleasant experience at Tata Showroom (still need for improvement) but I think they took good care overall and made our day special. They deserve appreciation.

Have not been able to drive much and also avoided due to number plate still awaited. Tanked up the car last evening, took 40 liters before auto cut off.

The DTE showed 398 Km on tank up. Isn't that too less? And is dropping quickly.

Is this normal for a new car. Checked with SA, he said real efficiency will come only after 2nd Service. Fellow owners, any thoughts?

Also, i still haven't read everything about the car, any important points I should be aware of during initial days such as run in period and precautions.

Thanks!

Congratulations!

Me too saw DTE around 400 for a long time. After a few long trips on highway's the FE hovered between 10 to 18. 18 being on expressway and less than 10 in bumber to bumber traffic. I rarely use the sports mode, mostly it's city mode.

On a Pune-Diveagar-Mahabaleswar-Pune trip, I got a FE of 11. This was just after 1st servicing.

Yesterday completed 2nd service, let's see if there is any improvement.

For the run-in period, do a mix of runs. i.e city and highways. Watch out for the engine light, mostly it would be DEF issue. Need to do a long and spirited run. Mine engine light went off after a 20 min run.

Make sure to not race away after a cold start, a minute or 2 at idle and gentle acceleration initially. Same after parking, let the SUV be at standstill for some time before cutting off the engine.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Thanks @IAmGroot, that's really helpful. Yeah, I had the check engine light issue as well and honestly I hadn't noticed it also as it's an all new cluster look for me, still getting used to it.
I went to the showroom for number plate fitting and to show the engine light, but it disappeared by then.
Good points on idling, coming from petrols I need to be mindful of.this.

Nice inputs in your post and thank you for that.

Due to my work profile I am not able to drive much. Its just Office and back mostly, on empty roads about 4 km one way with a speed limit of 30 kmph.
In this office and back profile the Safari is a guzzler. Gobbles up a tank for about 300 km.
I do however pull out weekend runs and on a recent vacation did an almost 4000 km trip in a week.
The car loves the highways and I was able to achieve 14.7 kmpl tank to tank. Not that I am complaining but what do you do to hit that 18 kmpl mark.

Looking at adding Ceratec in second service, any advice from the gurus here? I had a decent experience with Ceratec on my Ciaz Zdi, but this beast is definitely more complex and costly, therefore I want to take an informed decision.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Okay, looks like I will be posting frequently here given the things the car will throw at me, may be some niggles some by design that I didn't understand perhaps.

Today, went to dealer to pick my fasttag. All good till there, on return noticed that turn indicator camera isn't working.
Looked up into a YouTube video where someone solved this with an update. But I wonder how something that was working fine, suddenly stopped now and needs update?

Something must have caused this, isn't it?

Any experience anyone else has on this one?

.
18kmpl was for a very controlled drive between Pune-Lonavala on e-way with cruise control on in between. Did not exceed 90 kmph. Also, while on cruise control switched on the economy mode. Stretches where overtaking is not required, eco mode works. Started early morning, so no city traffic.

Now that Shell diesel is little bit cheaper, I am also going to try that and see if it has any positive impact on FE.

Get the software update R15.96. Post update, test if ADAS, 360 are working. Restart a few times and try again. If anything fails, just get the binding done.

Phantom Ownership Review

2021 Tata Safari Review-whatsapp-image-20230807-8.21.04-pm.jpeg
This is my initial ownership review of Tata Safari XZA+ a.k.a. Phantom (Orcus White Adventure Edition). I have done slightly more than 7000 kms.
I also did get a call for HP Pump replacement recall, will be visiting the service center this week. I haven't faced any issues regarding the pump or anything else. Mine is also APR 2023 manufacturing.

Observations:
  • It's a pleasure driving this beast.
  • Automatic is a boon and a special mention to Auto Hold feature which is very very useful in bumper to bumper traffic.
  • The JBL sound system has a very good punch and an awesome bass to it. Really a pleasure listening to bass boosted songs.
  • Ventilated seats are a boon. No more "shirt sticking to back" by the time you reach office.
  • Seats have quite good cushioning and the khaki colour looks premium. Memory seats have helped immensely in finding the right driving position in which my left knee doesn't hit the center console.(P.S. I'm 6ft tall)
  • The 360 degree camera is very clear and the infotainment screen is also very smooth and responsive.
  • Noise insulation is pretty good, the build quality feels sturdy and tank like. Although no NCAP ratings yet.
  • Did a 200 kms day trip to Bundi and back with 7 adults onboard and everyone felt comfortable. Thanks to sliding middle row seats.
  • Fuel efficiency has been decent and as expected by a car with this size and weight. I do drive with a light foot and my daily drive includes 80% of highway driving and 20% city driving. (P.S. Attaching photos from fuelio)

    2021 Tata Safari Review-whatsapp-image-20230807-9.05.39-pm.jpeg
  • Diesel cars have a chiller AC since the beginning, no issues from it.
  • Wireless charger location is the worst.
  • iRA connected car app is absolutely trash in this high tech world.
  • High beam is poor and needs to be upgraded to higher watts or maybe LEDs.
  • Parking in the city is a task.
  • The steering feels heavy at first but is quite smooth and responsive after you get the hang of it. It took me like 3 days to adjust to it and now I'm loving it.
  • Wireless AA/Carplay randomly disconnects sometimes and connects back automatically.

All in all I am happy and satisfied with my purchase.
One with the TBHP sticker.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Good Update there Kartik!!

I have exactly same car, took delivery 5 days back. Good to know you are enjoying your ride to fullest.

As I said, I'd be posting my doubts, queries and experiences frequently here. Just 4-5 days of ownership and about 200+ kms only so far. Looking forward to longer drives on highway in coming days. I have note yet figured out all features and functions - didn't get time to explore much.

First Week Ownership: Early observations

1.Quite a looker, massive street presence. People around me loved the overall look and interiors too.
2. Vehicle does feel premium unless one has a very keen eye for fit finish.
Trouble free so far except for turn indicator camera glitch which just auto resolved.
3. Steering is heavy for sure, but I kind of like it. With the commanding seating and the solid steering, you get a very butch SUV feel while driving. I realized only today that tire pressure was set at 37 instead of 33. Need to check the steering after deflating to 33.
4. However, what I didn't like was a bit too much feedback coming from the road. Specially on broken roads and slow speed, the steering gets thrown away by the feedback - uptil your palm and wrist. Some dampening could have helped.
5. First gear in auto tranny feels taller. I'd have preferred to shift earlier to 2nd gear. Thereon its smooth. But it does take time to build up speed once slowed by a bump.
6. Solid build, no two things about it.
7. Very smooth and impressive infotainment overall.
8. Some engine noise creep into the cabin but it isnt a lot. I haven't got a chance yet to go even at 100. I will stick to max 80-90 during run in.
9. I didnt find it difficult to maneuver coming from a Fluidic Verna. Took 2-3 drives for me to adapt to this beast.

Will keep adding more a I drive more.
