But today I write here to seek advice. Today, while driving back from work, the display flashed a ‘Drive Control System Fault’ followed by the ‘CEL’ light a few seconds later. The car is driving smooth as always but all three terrain lights are ‘on’ on the selector knob. I am also unable to change drive modes Eco, City and sport. Transmission is working fine in Manual mode too.

I am hoping it would be a not so major issue and that the ASC would be able to handle it comfortably. Any insights into the issue are welcome. Service/ repair booked for Sunday.
My Advice, just park the car, lock it and let it be for itself for a day or 2. The next moment you switch on the car, all issues would have gone away by itself and you can start enjoying the car. If the error still remains after that, take it to the service center.

I had faced the same check engine light on the display and a Drive Control System Fault error on the iRA app. I parked the car in my garage and when I took it out after couple of days, everything is back to normal and haven't seen that issue till date.

It could be the fuse for the tail light. Similar problem happened in my Harrier, and it turned out to a blown fuse linked to the tail light. Seems odd, but this is what the SC diagnosed it to.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Had given the car for body shop work at Saibaba auto, Hadapsar, Pune.

While the dent and paint job seems alright 2 new problems have started after I got back the car:

Prima facie these have nothing to do with the repair. But who knows if someone was just sitting there tinkering with things:

1. Driver side door has started rattling big time.

2. Android auto no more works, even by connecting over USB. Tried restarting the car system, restarting the phone etc. Only phone charging happens.

Please advise if you have dealt with this sort of problems.

Please check the Android auto-setting in MID. Sometimes the setting changes to charge-only mode. This happens many times in my Marazzo. Just changing to Android auto mode resolved the issue.

We often don't account for the probability of 2 things going wrong simultaneously! For #2 it turns out to be faulty USB cable. It was working and went bad somewhere between my last use of android auto and after the TASS visit. Replaced the cable and Android auto is working again.

Now the rattle issue with driver side door - with just a 4 month old car, certainly triggered after this service visit. Will visit the service station and show it to them.

The ‘Drive Control Fault’ and CEL glowing persisted. A day before this the DPF light had come on. So three days since, today I took the Car to the ASC. The guys connected the car to their OBD Reader and initiated DPF Regen. I was surprised to see the soot mass at 81%. The other two warnings mentioned above were also showing in the DTC list. The technician was sure it was because of the DPF clogging. I was not too convinced. After the first Regen cycle, the soot mass was still at 60%, so he initiated another DPF Regen cycle. A few minutes into this cycle, the warnings ( CEL and Drive Control Fault) went off. The regen cycle continued for another several minutes. The next scan after regen did not show any active DTCs. Next updated the Infotainment system to R16.80. Release date 18 Oct 23. So, in about an hour at the ASC, the problem seems to be resolved. Drove another 60 km or so to verify, so far so good.

About the ASC experience I had taken delivery of my car at this dealership in May 23. The service appointment was booked for 1000h. Fearing rush I reached by 0945h to find the workshop people coming in for work. My car was assigned and attended by the SA by 1010h. It was in the service bay by 1030h. They explained the way they were going to diagnose it and they did what they said. Car was handed over back to me by 1145h or so post billing and gate pass etc. I was happy with the overall experience. Yes, I can accept the initial 10 min delay, I was number 5 in sequence.
Four ASC visits so far, first Service at Jaipur, second service at Vadodara, the pulley alignment recall and today at Kanpur. I was Lucky to have come across excellent SA’s and timely work on my car. The one at Vadodara was the cleanest and this one at Kanpur the fastest.

Had taken the vehicle back to the same service station. They applied some sort of a spray on the rubber cushion (what is the right term for this?). The rattle noise has stopped now, but not sure if it will recur.

The SA said this happens in summer heat and as the vehicle was parked in heat at their end it might have happened when the car was with them. Does that sound a plausible explanation?

The rattle of the driver side door has re-appeared, big and annoying.

It occurred first when the vehicle was given for body shop work at Saibaba Auto, Pune. On showing it to him, he had just applied some sprays on the rubber cushions. Now he says get it replaced within warranty at the time of next servicing.

What might have caused this? Is this repairable? Does the warranty cover it?

The rattles could be because of damaged plastic clamps, clips, locks and guides used to fix the door pad to the door. Can be repaired fairly easily subject to extent of damage. In my Ciaz the ASC guys had left a few pieces of old stuff, a nut and some plastic bits which caused amazing havoc.

Was that an actual rattle? or probable rubber squeaks from door weatherstrips? I can only assume that the spray was done over the weatherstrips.

If it is this part, then a warranty is possible.

I had a similar concern and the SA just sprayed silicone/wax lubricant( not exactly sure ) over the rubber weaterstrips in order to minimize the noise. It comes and it goes for me till date. Never persistent.

It was actual rattle and the spray did not help. I took the car to a different service station - Auto Point, Wakad. He said it's a door alignment problem. He did some quick fix that has greatly reduced the rattle, but it is not as smooth and silent as the remaining three doors.

Wonder if in next servicing I should ask them to improve it further or will it open a never ending pandora's box of issues and frequent visits to the service station.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

Guys,
Has anyone (preface lift or facelift Safari owners) come across this alert on the cluster advising to take a break?
I got one such last night driving between Mumbai and Pune via Atal Setu. Alert came about 2.5 hrs into the drive with an audible beep, just like the speed limit one or may be slightly different and that's why it didn't get my attention immediately. Speed limit beep keeps coming all the time on highway.
But then my eye caught attention by an unusual icon ( a tea cup) and text on cluster and before I could absorb it, it vanished.
What I am curious to know is what triggered it?
Is it just night time continuous drive where it would show such thing periodically? But I havnt got this on my earlier wee hour trips to Mumbai.
So, was it based on any other inputs from me the driver? Really curious.
I have so less affinity to sleep that sleeping behind the wheel is my last worry, am so much into the road and driving and specially when the family is around and resting when I drive. The car here is Safari XZA+ Adventure that does list a driver doze off alert on the brochure.
And if it was that, it had to be loud and more in your face kind.

Hi Rodie09, I have experienced this alert in my car a couple of times. Don’t know the algorithm behind it but I got it around 3-4 hours into the drive. Also, the driver attention status bars do tend to have reduced when the caution pops up. In my case the attention level bars do correspond to when I start feeling tired/ bored.
The car owners manual does talk about it IIRC.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

That's interesting to know. Thanks @FLYBOYSID
What are these driver attention bars you wrote about? Your post sounds as if there is something on the cluster all the time. Never noticed. I will surely read the manual. There were some bars under the tea cup icon but it disappeared very quickly. As I said, if the system really wants to alert a sleepy driver, the beep ought to be louder and disturbing kind.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

I had 2nd free servicing of pre-facelift Safari. They did a software upgrade. I notice two changes now:

1. When camera is switched on there is audible alert for an obstacle, even when you are not reversing. Earlier, the alert came only when reversing.

2. A tiny green colored symbol, somewhat like a speedometer dial with a pointer, with __km/h written under it appeared on the dashboard. It went away after some time, so could not photograph it, can't reproduce now. I do not know what this symbol is and whether anybody else noticed it.

UPDATE: From the manual, this appears to be the cruise control symbol. I am not sure what activated it, though. It was city traffic and I was certainly not cruising.

3. Now that we are at it. A certain symbol has been appearing once in a while and disappearing. I do not find that symbol in the manual and can't even take a photograph as it appears for a small duration. It is a red colored small rectangle, somewhat inclined, resembling an object like a mobile phone or something. It appears in the left bottom corner of the dashboard. It will be of great help if someone can enlighten me on what this is.
