Just confirmed from my sources that Tata will be launching the Dark Edition of the Safari by this month end. Tata will likely hold a media launch event next week and cars will start to arrive at the dealerships across India soon afterwards.

My dealer has confirmed this. :thumbs up

Safari is already the best looking vehicle in sub thirty lakh category. What it really needs are
1. A new infotainment system rather than the archaic one
2. 360 degree camera / blind spot monitor
3. AWD system

Tata should concentrate on these , rather than cosmetic changes, if they really want to up their game against the competition ( read xuv 700).

Thank you for sharing. Which month did you purchase? It's an eyeopener of sorts. Who are these dealerships/service centers? Will help others if you share some names please

I wish that it is available in at least the XZ/XZA trims if not a in all trims since there is already a Gold Edition black at the top end and they don't end up placing the Dark edition on par with the Gold Edition or higher.

My nephew asks:

Manual or Auto ? He is looking at the top trim. He lives in a tier-2 city, so traffic is not a concern.

Going by all the reviews available online and offline, automatic is the gearbox to go for. Moreover in the manual variant many people have reported dashboard hitting the knee when clutch is operated, so with AT box he won't be facing that issue as well.

Although a new infotainment system would be a welcome addition, it would be best if they sort out all the niggles with the current system they have. This would mean, at a software level fix the outstanding issues and from a hardware level increase the memory and/or internal storage space. 360 degree camera is a must in a vehicle of this size and Tata Motors should provide these in the higher variants at least. These and the reported issues with steering input/feedback corrected would make Safari a good proposition for those looking for an SUV under rupees 30 Lakhs.

.

Last year Dec’2021, I sold my new Thar AT Diesel. Yes you are reading it right! I sold my Thar 2020 after 5K KMS, there were absolutely no problems in Thar but it's just not suitable for my liking so I ended up selling it. Mahindra engine is a GEM.

One correction i like to make here is about Sales and Delivery experience, The sales experience for me was exceptional, the Sales executive assigned to me was answering all my queries:thumbs up and even he agreed to bring the vehicle to my apartment to check parking space, he was reachable always, i should'nt have clubbed this together in my review, i was happy about sales executive and sales experience, however i was not happy with delivery experience, buying a car is a big decision in any Indian Family, Family expects a good delivery experience and they like to feel that they are welcoming a new family member(Car), i do not like to take the delivery from a Service center or at a stock yard with large number of people.

I would highly recommend the automatic variant. I am in love with it and it's butter smooth. Also, the manual gearbox is not the best in the segment.

Thanks, @Jude300 and @yesyesve.

@Jude300 - what made you pick the AT over the MT ?

Any inputs from anyone, please share.

Note:
I know I can check the specs on paper, but I myself am not trying it out for the simple reason that TD's cant give much info compared to info through ownership.

Tata Safari Dark Edition teased ahead of its unveil tomorrow.

My reason for going with AT was more driven by need as I wanted it to be easy for my wife to drive as well. That said, if you compare both you would agree that the mating of the AT gearbox is superior to the manual on the Safari. However, the AT being a torque converter, is not very fuel efficient. Moving from Ecosport MT that used to give me 17kmpl on an average, I feel the pinch on the Safari AT that gives me 11.9 kmpl average as of now.

So, its gonna come with ventilated seats. That's a great thing.

Have booked an automatic after much deliberations and taking delivery on the Republic Day.
I think in the Safari, the automatic is much better in terms of response and feel.
Not really impressed with the manual gear shift for a vehicle this size.
I am someone who is generally biased towards the manual transmission, absolutely hate driving the automatic Ciaz in the family, however in this case the automatic in the Safari just seems to combine better. In all honesty thats all i can say.
Its just a feeling. But hey when you are paying 20 plus lakhs, the feel matters doesnt it ?

The Safari Black Edition is up on the Website. Looks like the hint of dark chrome Door handles and centre console trims too have been taken out.
Exteriors looks great. Interiors look too claustrophobic and dark, imho.

Oh and they seem to have added the ventilated seats on the Dark Edition.
