Re: Hyundai i20 Review After a lot of contemplation, cross shopping, Finally bought a pre-owned i20 ivt sportz 2023 / 18k driven from Spinny as a second car for my wife.
The main requirement for this car, that it should be small, pre-owned with lesser kms on the ODO, Automatic and preferably non AMT. But post few TDs with AMT i was open to consider the AMTs as well.
During the buying process the contenders were Jazz, Amaze, i20, and later included i10 NIOS and Swift as well.
i10 NIOS came in since my recent ride experience on an Aura cab was amazing and NIOs AMT TD was surprisingly good.
One point to note that AMTs in the market is evolved and its much better in terms of feel and VFM as well.
Swift AGS is very peppy and shift shocks are very well masked, I really liked the last gen dual jet tuning and its extremely fun. Do TD urself to see the unique peppiness in this lot of engines with dual jet.
I'd suggest people to not just shy away from AMTs going by what you hear, go TD yourself, for many of us AMTs will still do.
Jazz, I liked the car, its much better than Amaze in terms of build, feel, drivability. The only concern its a discontinued product and i saw few owners in TBHP reported parts problem and rusting issue.
Amaze, This car is cramped and very boring to drive, somehow the rubberband effect is very pronounced, its not in just 1 car. The car ages very badly n quickly, i came across a 2023 sample with just 15 k on ODO, the paint and plastic felt faded badly.
Swift i really liked the dual jet last gen cars, but the only concern is the build which felt way too light and Wifey felt its way too common and boring.
i10 NIOS finding a good specimen is rare and its selling out like a hot cake in used market.
Now coming to i20, I liked the small footprint yet the space management inside is very good. Its much roomier than Venue and the suspension is very compliant. The refined 1.2 4 cylinder with iVT is my choice, for sometime i thought of going to DCT, but the 3 cylinder rattly idling nature and DCT's reliability concern kept me away and moreover this is going to do 95% City drive, DCT+turbo is not the choice for this requirement. The iVT rubber band effect is much lower than Honda's CVT.
Its extremely easy to drive in city, Even though being a hatch the GC is not bad.
Mileage i get 10-12 in city traffic and worst 8 in b2b crawl.
Being Hyundai its equipped with features Auto headlamp, TPMS, Cruise control, Wireless carplay etc.. overall happy so far. |
