What should I do? Ditch all this and go straight to Stedi Homage sealed assemblies. Suggestions would greatly help.

I used to feel the same way.. but lately I have been thinking, if people don't think about blinding me, it's about time I should stop thinking about blinding them.

Jokes aside I wonder if the Roxx headlight can be retrofitted into the 2023 Thar.

Or both
Plug n play is what I'm looking for. These are way too intrusive to my taste.

That's what I was waiting for. But the head lights from Roxx are a lot different electrically from the ones the three door has. The Stedi ones are H4 compatible. So, no need to cut wires. Which is a big . That is unlikely to be the case with Roxx ones. The biggest problem is when are the Roxx units going to be made available for us to have our hands on, let us say on Boodmo?

Relay doesnt need any wire cut/adding additional wire through firewall and a simple 10 minute job.
Infact for changing to plug and play Stedi you hv to remove the bumper, grill and then access the headlight assembly.
I prefer original look and halogen color temp, using relay with 130/100 halogen for over 2 years.

I agree that the halogens are good in many situations, especially in weather and they are cheaper than many other options. However, my OSRAM Night Breaker Laser halogen (these are not high wattage type) low beams have turned a lot more orangish than when I installed them two years back and they seem to be losing juice pretty fast. Hotter burning and high-power halogens tend to yellow the headlamp units over time. Not that the headlamps in the Thar are expensive to replace or that my headlamp units have yellowed in two years but yellowing of the reflector is a real thing because of the heat from the bulbs. Higher the wattage, more the heat, higher the rate of damage.

But above all these nitpicking against the halogens, throw, focus and cutoff of modern LED headlamps are too tempting to ignore. I recently watched a video by CarExpert on YouTube comparing different headlamp types. I was taken aback by seeing how good the new Swift projector LEDs are in pitch-black roads especially when compared with stock projector halogens of the Kia Seltos in the comparo. I mean, it's a Suzuki Swift!

After considering the options, as an interim measure, I got the Philips Ultinon Pro9000 LED bulbs for my halogen housings from Boodmo. At 8k a pair they are expensive compared to other options like OSRAM 50W and all that. There is something doesn't seem to be alright with the OSRAM LEDs available in the market. I can't accept fake or sketchy stuff and the OSRAM LEDs, though very tempting, did not pass my fake check. So, at first, I thought of getting the upgrade done from the Thar original accessories list. But the ones given in their catalogue are Philips Ultinon Pro5000 HL and the dealer quoted 10k! So, the obvious choice was Boodmo.

The Pro9000 bulbs claim to be designed for use in halogen lamp housings. I have read a lot about LEDs not being suitable for halogen housings since they tend to scatter light too much. To my complete surprise, the Philips LED bulbs have a far better focus and low beam cutoff than my OSRAM halogens. Moreover, the high beam now has a much better spread and reach. The LED alignment can be adjusted by rotating the bulb in its bracket. It did take a bit of tinkering to get the alignment right for the perfect low-beam cutoff. No such alignment, other than moving the headlamp assembly itself, is possible in the case of the halogens.

The OSRAM halogens claimed to be 160% brighter than the legal minimum stock halogens output. They were significantly brighter no doubt. But the Philips LEDs are a lot brighter (claim to be 230% than the legal minimum) and also have much better usable illumination of the road and the sides. They are not that irritating blue that I absolutely hate but has a colour more towards a perfect white (5800K). While I did try to take photos to show the difference, but couldn't find a good location in my area to do justice to what I'm experiencing after the change.

Though not the most cost effective one available in the market, as an initial thought at least, I think the Philips Ultinon Pro9000 LED is a good option for Thar stock head lamp units.

Really tastefully executed modification. That wheel and tyre combination looks absolutely stunning on the Thar. Look forward to more updates on the overall performance with the suspension, wheel and tyre set up.

Cheers

That’s a beautifully modified Thar! What an alloy and tire combo. Eagerly waiting for more from you in terms of the suspension, wheels, and tires & their performance. Also, it would be nice to know the cost details for these mods

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Hi BHPians, I am planning to book a Thar D LX MT - Red Rage here in Bangalore. I have come to know that there is a cash discount ongoing, as well as the delivery will be done in 4 weeks. Need a few suggestions regarding the same:

1. Any reliable accessories dealer in Bangalore (for aftermarket accessories)?

2. Recommended Mahindra Standard Accessories? (planning to get Reverse Camera, Rear Armrests, Seat Covers and Sun Shade from showroom itself, any additions/deletions)?

3. Recommendations on halogen bulbs (planning to keep stock headlamps, looking to change only the bulbs)

4. Any other essential accessories?

If you scan these all Thar threads you will find a whole list of things that some of us early adopters had recommended based on personal experience.

Autostyle Koramangala is a one stop shop for Thar accessories.
Reverse camera and sun shades yes the showroom can do.
Suggest go to Autostyle for the rest of it. Seat covers the best out there are from Armoro - Canvas ones. I had them but gave them off to my friend when I sold the Thar. They are tough and stand up to dirt.
There are some great additional storage options available from Armoro too.
Ref Halogens - Philips Xtreme Vision or Racing vision bright white or Osram Night breaker. Standard H4 Halogen Bulbs. Plug and play. 55 Watt standard. More than enough to cut through the fog.
Take some time to search the threads for Thar Accessories and you will find lists and lists and lists.
The sky is the limit.
Good luck with your new Toy!

Just last week I got a total discount of about 1.5L, check with a couple of dealers and then take a call.

Note: get a insurance quote from outside and let the dealer match it, there is a big difference.

Hi Vinod,

I checked with 3 dealers in Bangalore and tried my best to squeeze some additional discount. All 3 were absolutely firm on being unable to provide any additional discount on ex-showroom price (beyond 1.5 lacs)

However, PPS Mahindra Indiranagar agreed to provide additional benefits worth approx 25k on exchange price and accesories

I have given them insurance quote from my side, which they're unable to match. So I'm buying the insuarance from my side. Booked the car yesterday, they have confirmed delivery within 15 days, excited to lay my hands on the toy

Hello,

I wanted to share information with fellow Thar owners who own the earlier Thar models without the 'DEF Level Indicator' in the cluster.

We can check the DEF LEVEL from the ECU using the ELM 327 BLUETOOTH interface adaptor which is very cheap and available on all online platforms.

I bought one from Amazon and used the CarScanner App available in the Play Store for free (premium comes at some cost) but the free version is enough for checking the DEF LEVEL.

I posted the video for the entire process.

Video link for the process:

Any thoughts on what could have happened?
Exactly a year later the same issue happened twice over the weekend. The fuse was getting blown when the mirror was getting adjusted. CBC Mahindra did a full check and found out that one of the wires near the mirror switch was shorting to the body
