2. Suggest talk to AutoStyle in Koramangala and see Maxxis 980 AT. Tread is really similar to BFG and the tyres are less expensive than BFG.
3. Talk to Madhu’s also and see if they recommend Yoko Geo G016 AT.
4. Honestly no harm looking at MRF cross Drive and Wanderer and Apollo Apterra AT2 as well.
Thanks for the suggestions Shankar, I have checked with Autostyl, however 265/60/18 Maxxis is not available.

Madhu's are suggesting Vredestein Pinza 80 in 265/60/18 and quoting 17K per tyre.

Another option for me is Apollo Apterra AT2, but not sure if this will last beyond 45K Kms.

I really like BFGs, the best rate I got till now is 21.5K per tyre. I am still confused which one to go for.

I am looking for branded options with similar looks of BFG thread, however seems to be impossible to find other than Maxxis (which is not available in 265)

The extra 20k you shell out for the BFG's will be totally worth it. Trust me.. It's very hard to find someone not satisfied with the K02's. Even at these prices..

Would you recommend BFG AT for someone who goes 90-95% highway and 5-10% on trails and estate roads and some level of casual off road, slush, mud, grasslands and all?
Asking for myself. Not yet ready to change the tyres but would really like to understand this.
The other options I was thinking of were Michelin LTX Trail AT and Yoko Geo G016, along with the stock Ceats which I am happy with, MRF wanderer and Apollo Apterra.

if 90-95% is highway usage then i would highly recommend the Michelin LTX AT. i had them on my previous Thar and they really improved the drive experience. And lasted over 90,000 kms.
The Yokos i had on my Scorpio and again no complaints, a very strong tread.

.
Yes Shankar. BFG's have a very good feedback on-road as well. The BFG's are also one of the best looking tyres for my taste.

Thanks both!

@Dhanush.
1. Won’t such treads (as on BFG) increase road noise considerably?

@KSingh.
1. How long did it take you to hit 90K Kms? Thats seriously Long lasting for any tyre!
2. How long did the Yokos last in terms of Kms and years?

1. The Michelins have been going for over 6 years now, i sold my Thar last year and the gentleman who bought is still using the same tyres on the vehicle. Should be approaching 100,000 now. On the highway im a steady 100-120 driver, sometimes going over for the thrill of it.
City driving is again sedate, with some quick overtakes when needed. I had to replace one tyre when i scrapped it against a sharp sidewalk and the sidewall got cut.
The combination of these tyres and armada shockers improved the ride a lot, i never needed a suspension upgrade. Keep in mind this was the Thar CRDE 2015, the Thar 2020 is already much improved from the previous version.

2. Same for the Yokos, i replaced them at about 88k in year 6 of the Scorpio. They could have gone longer but mentally i wanted to be sure, so replaced them

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

K.

You can find it under the floormat in the boot on the right side. There is a small plastic knob that you should unscrew to open this lid and u can find the jack placed in there with some rubber bushes. Now I am talking about petrol varient, not sure if this is different in diesel models.

Thanks, that's a revelation for me..!!
Funny I didn't realise it all this while. I am used to velcro-ing the toolkit to the roll cage bar.
First thing on my to-check-list once I get to my vehicle.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

A question in the opposite direction. Have people with the LX variant considered the tyres of the AX variant ? 245/75r16? I'm talking from a purely functional point of view.

They give thicker side wall so better ride quality and deflation capabilities, not sure if they would make the steering lighter. Only con I see is a 7mm or quarter inch reduction in ground clearance.

I'm assuming the 245 section should be sufficient for the Thar since it comes from the factory and its also the same for the heavy Isuzu V cross.

The two sizes are not interchangeable - the AX has 30.5" dia wheels from factory, while LX has 31.1". As the LX comes with ESP, TCS, BLD etc., may not be a good idea modifying the wheel dia without calibrating the electronics.

The right downsize to match factory spec of the LX will be 255/75 R16 or 275/70 R16.

Your Thar looks stunning aamishdingra. Thanks for sharing.

One question regarding Aftermarket bumper. I'm also planning to install this Model M bumper but little concerned as the 2 metal fittings are poking outside, Do you see any safety concerns as you have been living with it for sometime. Also, Were you ever stopped by Police for installing these external mods.
