Thanks.
Not at all. Sellers opportunistically jacked up the prices of sparingly used Thars when the vehicles were is short supply.

Unless you need 4x4, you might as well buy a brand new petrol auto 4x2 for less than the price quoted by Spinny here. Why would one buy these overpriced Thars now? I predict that a lot of these overpriced Thars will remain unsold in used car market, till their prices are corrected to realistic levels

After checking alignment at Tyre Empire they confirmed alignment was off and rectified it. Now the car seem to hold straight line on smooth roads (on roads with undulation I still feel the car moves to one side after sometime). But still the self centering is not very strong. Is this normal? Should I get it checked at ASC?
Hi there ak10, congratulations on your new Thar.
As mentioned by you, the steering on the Thar does not return to centre with the same ease as other cars. This coupled with the poor turning radius makes the steering rather cumbersome to use in tight spaces. Even though I've gotten used to this trait, it is quite irritating at times. So what you're facing with the weak self centring is quite normal.

Just the novelty of Convertible Top is dragging me to get the 4X4 version. Since this will be my second/ secondary vehicle it doesn’t make sense for me to get the hard top as it will probably become the same vehicle that I have currently, in a few months.

Looks like Mahindra has launched the Everest White color in the 4x4 variant too. Looks superb in pictures though.

This colour doesn’t look good in the posted videos and some of the chaps who booked the 4x2 are also saying the same.

Black , Red , Grey and especially Aquamarine ( which has been phased out ) look the best.

Anyone using Morimoto 7 on the Thar or has seen it in person , I see a Morimoto India page but where is the light available?

How are Hella 3 inch projectors ? Any other recommendation except IPH and AoZoom for 3 inch projectors ?

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

I still like the Color, especially with Convertible open top, this should look fantastic. I will however, reserve my affirmation till I see the Color in real. Hopefully, now with it being extended to 4X4, we will see some white Thars on the road.

After reading your post I specifically went yesterday and again today and did some full lock U Turns and then straightened out in my Thar. I don’t have any problem with my Thar in terms of its speed of steering self cantering. Yes it is less responsive than my Mini Cooper in this aspect but then these are widely different vehicles. In response to another comment here about the turning radius of my Thar. I do not feel that it is too wide a turning radius at all. On account of its short wheel base, and use of stock factory spec oem tyres one can actually turn around very easily on a normal main road in a Bangalore layout. These are mostly internal layout main roads and cross roads and I frequently do this because I regularly visit some local shops for fruits and groceries and once I ve shopped I simply turn the vehicle right around in one sweeping movement and come back home. No need for a three pointer turn unless one is on a very narrow road. I have been owning and driving Jeepy things for a very long time hence am used to the handling and characteristics and adapt my driving style very easily depending which vehicle I am using. My Gypsy which has stock nylon tyres and no power steering is also able to do complete full lock U turns quite easily. Yes the Gypsy has the highest turning radius amongst my 3 vehicles. And the lack of power steering means it’s steering is heavy ar parking speeds. But the use of stock oem factory spec tyres, makes it surprisingly comfortable. No one wil believe this until they drive it.

Thanks, I am also getting used to it now. I was comparing it to my ciaz which by itself has slow self centering than some other sedans with EPS. Also I noticed the self centering in Thar is stronger if I exit a turn above 20kmph and also if tyre pressure is higher. So i guess this is just physics and how the car is built. On the brighter side ciaz's steering feels pretty good now

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

My thar's odo stands at 850km after two weeks of owning the car. Couple of other items I noticed are,

1. There is a mild grinding noise/sensation when I go a little fast through really bumpy roads. This happens only once in a while and sometimes not reproducible. I can feel it on my accelerator pedal, almost feels like ABS in action but i am not pressing the brakes. Is this traction control or something need to be checked? I tried turning off TC and could not reproduce the same effect, but then, even with TC on this only happens once in a while.
2. In the first week of ownership when I reduced the Tyre pressure to 29psi like few other members suggested to improve ride quality, I started getting motion sickness. Thar was swaying side to side too much. Now I keep the pressure at 32psi and I feel like the ride is manageable and I kind of like it this way. Only issue is the rear tends to bounce too much is I go over bumps fast.

Planning to buy but still in two minds. I absolutely do not need a second vehicle as my current vehicle is serving all the purpose. Just the thought of putting 17-18 lacs in a vehicle which will be sparingly used has got me thinking.

Wait for Jimny. Test drive it. Then decide.
These things like Thar, Jimny etc are purely heart driven purchases, especially in the situation of a normal person like most of us who are living in an urban environment and doing a city job.
If you’ve got the money, no harm spending it for a few jollies.

Looks nice in pictures. But reminds me of the while Commanders and MM540's being used in health departments in Kerala

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Saw a white Thar today in the wild. It looks out of place, way too white and nothing to break the lines. Weird.
