Any lighting norms which need to be followed for trailer? Also how will you power it's lights?

Does your Thar have provision to attach a tow hook? Check my earlier posts on this thread I have asked the same thing as I saw on some site that they have removed the provision to attach tow hook in certain vehicles.

One last point, do you know what exactly is "tow hitch protection" mentioned in Thar's brochure mentioned in features under off-road essentials.

I have got hitch receiver from Swastik Fabs , serving me well. I am also curious about tow hitch protection, couldn’t find any info on that.

I guess it will have a separate registration number and a dedicated chassis number along with the details of the manufacturer.

You are right and fortunately there is a mention of “locally manufactured trailer-semi trailer” in the registration form. I think the best approach would be to contact local trailer or agricultural trolley manufacturers (registration is now compulsory) for detailed information. The process of registration will vary between states and RTOs. FYI STA stands for State Transport Authority.

I am pretty sure proper lighting norms compliance would be a must.

Yes, my Thar does have the brackets. I guess they are absent in the newer models.

Attaching the registration form which clearly has a provision for registering locally manufactured trailers.

For making your own tracks sort of off-roading, I'll recommended the ARKA underbody kit, which is an Aluminium shield, and it's ++ is in addition to lower weight than steel, it also covers the fuel tank. Last I checked, other brands' underbody protection kirs needed a separate fuel tank shield.
Thanks. I did get the fuel tank protector from the mahindra official Accessories, even though its plastic it may do the job for now. And if i am not wrong I did see some kind of protection by default for DEF tank as well. (Will have to recheck that to be sure).

Will check those ARKA out as well. Even though not going to go hardcore offroading for now, but protecting you car is never a bad idea.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Hi All
I recently bought a Thar LX At Petrol, looking at upgrading tyres.. the current FE that I am getting within Gurgaon city drive is 8 KMPL.. Currently my car has MRF Wanderers.

I am planning to go for BFG 265s with fuel alloys for cosmetic plus occasional off-roading trips nearby..

Would any one be able to share his experience with FE drop in Petrol AT with BFGs.. please help I am confused like hell.. !

Absolutely! This and the emission norms, had a lot to do with my decision to take the plunge and go for the diesel convertible. It may also be the last time we are buying a diesel vehicle.

BFGs cost around 25K per tyre.
Maxxis 980 AT tyres cost about 13-15K per tyre. They look as good as BFG and are as tough too.
If you are upsizing just one size you wont find an appreciable difference in FE. But if you are going for 285’s which is the upper limit without fouling, you will see at least 1Km drop. The Thar Petrol AT is already a boxy and thirsty beast. With fatter wider bigger tyres its overall contact patch and in consequence, the coefficient of friction between the tyres and road will increase, leading to a drop in FE.

Maybe yyou should look at grill, headlamp upgrade, and grab handles on the A Pillar. These will add lot more to the style and comfort than Dark Lord accessory imo.

For arm rests, I would suggest you go for some after market ones. The ones offered by Showrooms are of very poor quality and they charge a lot more too.

Those after market metal Grab handles on the A Pillar are an absolutely dangerous accessory in my opinion. You need them like a ‘hole in the head’ is the way I will put it. Consider what the effects will be in case of an unfortunate incident of an untoward impact.
I’ll leave it there.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Completed second service today (10k kms). Some observations:

Average DEF usage is about 1 litre for 1000 kms, that is what I was told by the service advisor today. He was adamant for 10 Litres but I insisted on getting level checked first and then refilling it. Tank had about 11.79 Litres so refilled another 6 Litres.

Today I realised, the SOPs mentioned by company are hardly followed at ground level.

DPF bucket has nozzle through which they are expected to refill it but nope, they simply open the cover just like paint bucket and then drop whole bucket with a jugaad funnel made through cut plastic bottle. As expected, most went through but some spilled on the body and after a while plastic parts turned white where it fell. Had to waterless wash that entire area.

AFAIK, coolant for Thar is pink - premixed but I don't know why they keep topping it up with water. Amazingly today, mechanic had a sip from the same bottle from which he topped up coolant.

The most annoying thing was POS terminal not available. Forcefully, I had to UPI them. If anyone from Mahindra is reading this, please ask your dealers to stop stooping so low when the services those dealers are rendering amounts to Lakhs everyday.

Nobody could answer my query for tow hitch protection as to what exactly that is. One more thing I found was they have removed provision to add towing - from the chassis itself. Newer models (including mine) doesn't have it. It's a bummer Mahindra.

On the upside, it took 2.5 hours for entire service and their app is really nice. Lists out everything, each item, RO number, everything except payment. Tried paying through app 5 times everytime it showed transaction failed just when I clicked on Pay but app is way better than Hyundai's.

If possible get the door cladding from Azad, you can order online and costs almost the same but looks much more cooler than the stock one and is of good quality, being said that please do not order the grill from them as the quality is extremely poor and is prone to cracks within 6 months.

About the arm rest, these days with a lot more Thars on the road any decent car accessory shop would have them and the quality depends on the cost. I have installed two rear arm rests which have USB charging points that i have not connected as i did not want any wires to be sliced and a front arm rest with a decent storage space and is very comfortable and is a boon on long drives. The complete set cost me around 11,000 and i guess he said its by Bimbra the quality is pretty decent, looks good and much better than the stock one.
