You are totally right. I overlooked the fact that there is one more plastic part below the HardTop roof panel near the Wind screen. Removing this would do the job as you said. More importantly, this would have no effect on the boot seal. Thank you very much.

This is not showing up for my 2020 October VIN'd Thar in my service center's vehicle management system. Not sure if anyone else checked with their MASS and have gotten this recall.

Also, there a v2.00.03, update for the Thar's silver box, bump up from 1.01.05 - I have gotten this done, but if you have the official reverse camera, defer this for now. I'll be checking the AA disconnecting issue with this now...

What all has been updated in this version? Any new feature or information unlocked - like ambient temperature reading?

Lol no, nothing of that sort, just an update under the hood apparently.

We get the new twin peak logo when it starts from deep sleep though

Got this done from Auto Music Emporium, Karol Bagh Delhi.
Took about 3 hours for the job.

Thanks! So is it grain leather or a vinyl?

Meanwhile, Phoenix, what's up with the rear cam on the update? Also didn't they change the camera unit or are they still retailing the same camera?

I'm travelling until W2 November so I'll be a bit behind the curve.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

The present condition of the Sarjapur road right from Iblur to Sarjapur and beyond to Attibele is terribly broken and one mass of potholes.
It makes me very happy that I can drive fearlessly on such roads in my Thar.
All said and done, this vehicle inspires immense confidence on our Indian roads.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Hey there BHPians!

Took delivery of our Thar almost 1 and a half weeks back We got the Rocky Beige Petrol Manual. (excuse the low res photo, it's a screenshot of a video. I didn't want to show anyone's faces here.)

Very happy with the Thar. I will be posting an ownership review in detail on a separate thread very soon!

Question for fellow Thar owners

We're planning to install armrests and grab handles from an official Bimbra dealer here in Kerala. The rear armrest has 2 cup holders and a USB port.

1) Wouldn't the rear armrests have to be drilled onto the body? Will that cause any problems in the future? Also wiring for the USB port, I got the extended warranty and I don't want to void that nor have any wiring issues. How do I make sure the installer doesn't mess the wiring up?

2) Does having the rear armrests make it harder to get in and out of the back? My mom(55)/dad(62) tend to sit in the back and they already find it a little difficult to enter the back. Wouldn't want to make their lives harder now.

3) Grab handles. I need it on both sides. I remember reading on here that since it's drilled into the A-pillars it might cause rusting issues in the future ? Is that true?

I have been following Team BHP threads for a long time now......This has probably become a very long post, even by Team BHP standards. However, I have tried to add aspects of 2022 Thar that people have not discussed in much detail before. Will keep this forum posted with more experiences with my ‘Silver Back’ (yeah! That’s the name).

Great first post, arunpools – though lengthy – and with interesting tidbits about details of the new Thar. Details which most owners – yours truly included – often tend to ignore. Welcome on board & I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we all do!

I’m glad you mention the BLD, a device whose time was long overdue. I had mentioned this (when the term BLD was not on the horizon yet) in an earlier post in a thread on 4WD/AWD applications (“Driving all 4 wheels: how is it done?" by SS-Traveller, posts 357……373…….385…). I remember cribbing about the dominance of mechanical diffs (the open type with its various progeny & the torsen, epycyclic, etc) and the heavy power consumption of some of these, particularly the torsens. It should have been a simple matter for software/hydraulic controlled selective braking to be applied to the slipping wheel in an open differential to allow torque transfer to the other wheel. The real need of the hour of course was the importance of real time application. Delay in brake application would reduce the efficacy of the system. This is where the Torsen scored over the others - it is the only one which doesn't need any external input (hydraulic, electrical or mechanical) and also the only one that functions in real time. And I am really happy that Mahindra has finally done the needful by installing the BLD.

The other interesting point you mention is the Thar’s crawl ability in 4L, which is indeed stupendous. I think it is only bettered by the Jeep Rubicon, which has a standard crawl ratio of 84:1, compared to the Thar’s 42:1.

Hi mohit. Congratulations on your thar. You're going to have a great time!

1) yes the rear arm rests. 2 holes are drilled into the side. But if done properly it shouldn't be a problem. The USB wiring doesn't hamper your original wiring in anyway. So, no warranty issues. Original bimbra accessories are designed to not mess with the wiring. If you're going with the bimbra dealer, they should know the right way. Make sure you check with them in advance.you get other rear arm rest thta can just be kept there but they will move when you break so the getting them fixed properly is better. Also it makes a big difference to the comfort in the back seat.

2) space while getting in the back in not really hampered by the arm rest really. It doesn't reduce it. Ask your dealer to place and show you before fixing it so you can compare. Your parents will find it hard with or without the arm rest. That's just the thar.

3) yes, the grab handles are drilled into and that is the only way to put it. My guy got the holes touched up with anti rust to prevent rusting in the future while fitting them. Again, very useful to have the grab handles. Helps getting in and out of the back. They're also super sturdy once fixed properly.

I noticed your bumper being grey. The new models don't have the grey bumpers and a few other features. Additionally, new features also got added. You probably got the older model coz of the colour. Since rocky beige has been discontinued they're probably not making the newer models in that colour. I'd also booked the Rocky beige coz I absolutely love it but was informed that it's discontinued so I got the grey instead. I got mine end of August and I got the newer model on the grey.

Have a fantastic time with your beast!!

Thanks for the insight Ravi! Super helpful. I actually remember reading your review on your Thar! I was going through a lot of the ownership reviews once I got mine home The anti rust is a really good idea, I'll keep what you said in mind while talking to the installers and have everything sorted.

We actually got the new model, I think we just got lucky getting the color we wanted. It doesn't have one of the USB ports and some of the controls like HDC have been moved to the center console. The bumpers were actually all black but we had them painted grey by the dealer. I can attest to that since during delivery I noticed they actually missed a spot and the original black could be seen. Although weirdly we don't get the new Mahindra logo on the steering wheel.

I'm loving the Thar so far but I'm not going to lie, there are moments when I look at the AFE and wish we went with the Diesel. What kind of mileage are you getting now?
