Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

I recently took delivery of Napoli Black LX P AT from Sireesh Auto bangalore. However during delivery I was surprised to see that only 1 key was given. I was told due to chip shortage Mahindra is not delivering 2 keys for thar.

Anyone recently took delivery also given 1 key only?

Hi yes, got my thar about 10 days ago. I got one key fob during delivery and was told the 2nd manual key will be given after 4 months. Seems like this is the norm now.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Hi Guys,

Need some help and advise. Got my Thar (P) auto HT delivered on 29.07.2022. I paid Rs. 24995 as extended warranty for 4/5th year along with the initial deal. I was told extended warranty will be cut in few days and mailed to me. Ever since I have been following up with the dealership and they have been delaying it with one excuse or other. I must have sent 50-60 messages to the sales executive and he kept saying it will be done. Finally 2 days back I got a message from him that I will have to pay around 5000 rupees extra for the same. I think the dealership got delayed in getting the shield registered for my car and now asking for more. I sense some kind of scam.
Can someone suggest what to do about it ? All I care right now is getting the extended warranty for my car as I am fed up following up for the same. Dint expect this kind of scam from a reputed Mahindra Dealership based in Gurgaon.
Please suggest what to do.
Thanks in advance.

In this case, then I shall plan to downsize the rims to 17 or 16 inches, may be 8j ones.
In your opinion, which out of the below would make more sense?
275/70/16
265/75/16
275/65/17
265/70/17
If you take offroad performance seriously 265/75/16 would be my pick( I am using this size on my Isuzu). Slight gain in diameter and clearance.

275/70/16 is closest to stock tyre diameter. Good choice if you don't want to change the gearing with bigger diameter.

Are you aware of any lift kit for new Thar? I know Dr.Nano is developing one and the same is under test.
I am using Avo suspension. I wouldn't give up this suspension for any kind of lift.

Considering the front upper arm placement, I don't think its safe to lift Thar beyond 1-1.25 inches. Unless some proper brand like ARB or Ironman does proper R&D to make lift kits, I won't recommend Dr.Nano kind of local brands. Lifting independent suspension with limited suspension geometry travel is a complex game.

Hi,
I got my thar about 10days ago. I paid Rs.29027 for the 4th and 5th year of extended warranty. On delivery my SA made me install the "with you humesha" Mahindra app. All warranty details, service and RSA shows up on it. Its pretty comprehensive. When I logged on, my vehicle was already registered and warranty details updated. Try checking through that. Its a useful app to have I feel. Also, you will know exactly what the dealer is upto and if its being updated with Mahindra or is a scam. They shouldn't be asking for more money technically speaking but they seem to have taken 5k lesser than what I paid. So, it could just be incompetency and ignorance too. Wouldn't be surprised if it is.

Thank you for the info. I did check on the "with you hamesha" app, the extended warranty is not reflecting on the same. I think the extended warranty rates were increased by the company and due to the delay from the dealership side they were not able to register the extended warranty on time and now asking for the difference.

Check with M&M when the price increase took effect.

If you have a receipt from the dealer for your extended warranty payment dated before the rate hike, fight it out with the dealer.

Else you'll have to pay up.

Launch of the 5-door Thar is at least a year away, if not more. I suppose you already have an Endeavour for family trips. If so, go ahead with the 3-door Thar - nothing like a SWB jeep. It should be good enough for occasional short trips for the 4 of you. Of course, if you intend to use it for longer drives with more luggage, then the LWB is a better option.

In my case, I did receive 2 keys - a smart key and a dummy one. This was last November. Not sure if a dummy key would use any chips, though.

There was a recent price hike by Mahindra on extended warranty. Looks like the dealer was deliberately delaying the extended warranty agreement till the new prices came into effect. Unless you have a receipt from the dealer for your EW payment, you will have to buy it at the increased price.

That's amazing. I drive a manual petrol and get only 8-9 in the city.. Highway I get about 11..

How do you drive to get this mileage? Do you achieve this in the city or the highway?

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Getting my AC replaced.
This is as per service circular 03212.

Fixes the misting issues on the windshield.
Just the valve swap didn't work for me.

It's a driving hazard, if you can't see the road!
Get it done!

part number - 1203CW500071N
I've got a diesel manual.

Supposed changes:
1. Modified air direction valve levers.
2. Denser and fatter foam to prevent air escape.

Service time - 5 hours labor.
You'll have to convince the servicemen to order the part in advance.

It is 70% city and 30% highway. I don't do anything specific to get better FE.

My 1st post on Team BHP. Thank you guys for letting me into this community.
I got my Thar P MT HT Grey 10days ago. Its my only car and i plan to keep it like that. Will try my best to give you guys an honest review as there is very little info on the manual petrol version of the Thar online. I have done only 1000kms so far and just got my complimentary service done today......

Overall, so far I am enjoying this beast of a machine and look forward to creating many wonderful memories with it. If you guys have any advice for me with regards to the Thar maintenance, please do let me know.
Congratulations ravishankr89 on the new addition to the family! I have the identical model, August '21 (including the colour - Aquamarine) and agree with most of your observations.
I have a couple of queries. The headlights on my car are the stock halogens that it came with and I find them to be inadequate. Do you face the same issue? After some reading up I decided that the best option would be to upgrade to a better/brighter halogen bulb. What would you suggest?

The bumpers have safety impact sensors and I too want to fit proximity sensors as you have done. But decided against this as suggestions came from neighbours that it may void some part of the warranty. Had you faced any issues regarding this?

Your 1000 km coverage in 10 days is great going. For various reasons, we have done very little driving with the Thar so far. Mainly because the car is in Kolkata & we are stuck in Mumbai for the duration. But hopefully this issue (being stuck in Mumbai) will be resolved soon. We used our earlier Scorpio for touring the country for 14 years and hopefully the Thar too should prove its mettle soon in the North East hills.

Thank you for this update. Have started gathering strength to see dashboard being removed by the ASC guys. Please update us if you face any rattles or squeaks after this.

On a separate note, I see a red wire loose just behind where the glove box is. Do you have any accessories/mods installed? Also, how easily did they give in for this replacement?
