The idiots at the Kia Showroom said I can use the phone once I'm inside to set the temperature, yup, that's usually how you end up claiming insurance.

I'm really not into the data the app provides, there's no use in starting the engine and burning fuel unless you can chill the cabin before getting in on a hot day.
That sounds really strange, as I see the same screenshots for the android app as well. I’ll try testing on my friend’s android phone and update.

Just want to confirm again, are sure using the same “Kia Connect” app having screens like the screenshots I shared? Because there was another app in the past called “UVO lite” that can only work from inside the car, more like a bluetooth remote. The Kia Connect app works using the mobile network and can operate from anywhere.

I think it should just work fine on any android/iOS phone, as technically it’s just a simple app making an api call like any other app. I tested using alexa as well and that too worked fine. Also, the service advisors I met are clueless about most of the things, and I would not take their word as final.

And, I understand not everyone may be interested in all the features, just like I’m not interested in the alerts feature.

Re: Kia Sonet : Official Review

Hello all!

Here from the Jimny thread after cancelling the booking due to its obscene pricing for what it offers.

Quick facts:

• Have been looking at a compact-ish car to replace my wife's WagonR AT
• Four doors and a smaller size are important to us (no kids, one dog)
• An automatic gearbox too is a must-have
• Live in the NCT so diesels don't make any sense given their 10 year validity
• The car will do a maximum of 5-10kms on weekdays. Nothing over the weekends and a run to Shimla about once every quarter. A long driving holiday (Spiti / Ladakh etc.) once a year.

Why we shortlisted the Sonet 1.0 turbo petrol DCT:

• Compact, and looks great
• Mostly within our budget
• DCT gearbox - Not a fan of CVTs or IMTs
• Petrol - Live in the National Capital Territory
• Quite a performer on the road
• LOADED with features
• KIAs are supposedly quite reliable (the Hyundai connection)
• Delivery timelines are near instant (basis the colour)
• Remote start and ventilated seats (I bow only to the gods of Air-Conditioning)

Questions:
• Any widespread issues with the car or this particular gearbox?
• Thinking of getting the matte grey finish / colour. How hard is it to maintain? (We have a lot of construction happening in the vicinity of our house, and Gurgaon is anyway the mecca of dust).
• How does the car hold up after a say 15-20k kms? Do the plastics rattle? Are there obvious squeaks and groan? (My drive into the mountains usually consist of considerable stretches of unpaved and broken / rutted backroads.)
• I now am mostly a sedate driver, but take me back to the mountains and the right foot gets its bout of nostalgia at times. So, how does the car do with sharp cornering?
• Any other points you would find pertinent to mention?

Will really appreciate help from members of this thread.

Thank you!

I've been using a Sonet Dct for the past two years and posted an ownership experience the last week. Let me share the link here as I've shared my thoughts/experiences there regarding the points you asked about, https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-...5-000-kms.html

I haven't faced any issues with the DCT transmission, and no rattles or squeaks. The car feels fresh even after 15k km. The handling is decent for a high-ground clearance vehicle. However, the car is very bumpy on unpaved/broken roads. I think you should take a test drive on such roads if that's a concern because it may not be very comfortable if you're traveling on such roads very frequently.

The same app, similar screenshots but most of the links are disabled. Don't use the app anymore, it's pretty much useless in terms of convenience.

Okay, not sure what's happening in your case. My friend just installed the app on his wife's Redmi Note 8 Pro. We connected over a video call and were able to do everything just like how I'm using it on my iPhone. We tried remote start with different temperature settings as well. There were no inactive links and all the options were accessible just like on my phone. Maybe it was a bug they had in the past when you used it.

Kia did send a mail recently , for around 35k you can upgrade to the 10.25 inch display, not sure if the Sonet is part of the package.
I have asked Kia service if I can get a bigger display, UVO and Kia Connect installed in my Sonet

I have it on my phone, it has no functions beyond remote start and lock, updates are also done regularly.

I have used the app on OnePlus Phones and Iphones, works well with all functions. Infact I have also installed and paired it with Samsung galaxy watch and can check status and remote start the car using tey watch.
As mentioned by robincsamuel do check if the app you are using is Kia Connect.

I think the screenshot of the app is a better way to know what's going on. Ignore the low pressure warning, that's pending repair.

So the screenshots look good. it's only after your start the engine that one can control the AC temperature.
As for other disabled options thats the status.
To check, keep car unlocked and open any door.
Then refresh the app, it will show you which door is open and that the car is not locked.

The engine is on in the screenshot I shared, the AC control is disabled.

The fact is that the app has limited functionality on certain phones, those drawn to the connectivity features should check it out before maxing out their budgets.

Is it so? For me, it's the opposite. Set the temperature, tap on the start button and the car starts. Once the car is on, I cannot change the temperature, without stopping and starting again.

I'm pretty sure it's not like that, as technically I don't see any difference in sending a request to the server to start the engine vs start engine + climate control. It could be a bug, but not definitely limited to certain phones. Also, as I said above, I verified this on a Redmi Note 8 Pro.

The screenshots you shared are from the status screen. Can you please navigate to the "Remote" tab from the footer and show us what you're seeing there? The status screen is read-only; those are not buttons but just the current status indications. You have to navigate to the "Remote" tab to make changes.

Tap Remote from the footer, or the "more" link on the remote widget from the home screen > Set Temperature > Start Engine. A marked-up screenshot and a screen recording (please click on the gif to open in a new tab to play) are below,

I'll give you the rationale behind my decision. Hopefully it'll help you.

• Kia is Hyundai, and in terms of dependability scores very highly. Same breath as MSIL.
• I didn't want a BIG car. But definitely something bigger than a hatchback because I see myself doing longer trips in this one for a couple of years at least. We've no kids. So rear space isn't an issue.
• Creta is too big. Plus the waiting period was a damper (I'd been waiting for five months now thanks to the Jimny launch nonsense).
• Thought about the Seltos, but once I went to the showroom I understood that the version with the DCT gearbox (and some other bells and whistles) had been discontinued because of the pollution norms. I'm not too keen on the CVT and the iMT versions.
• Petrol engine. Very important. I live in Gurgaon and Diesels have to be sold before they turn 10. Which has eroded the resale even at say, year eight.
• Drove it and it had very little roll on curves plus it was quick on its feet when it came to overtakes. I usually am a sedate driver, but know the value of pick-up when you have to overtake on a mountain road.
• Ventilated seats & remote start with climate control. In our country this has a HUGE huge impact. Definitely a big check this.
• Plus a BOSE system with a subwoofer, decent boot space, TPMS, LED DRLs & lighting etc.
• The matte grey colour looks pretty cool and after de-chroming, the car should look pretty nice.
• Oh, and instant delivery.

by-the-by, got a message from the SA that'd been allocated to us by MSIL with pictures of the JIMNY and the words "Fast Delivery". What joy it was to confirm the cancellation, and to know that at least the dreams of Shashank Srivastava and team picturing snaking queues of people waiting for deliveries aren't coming true.

For the moment at the very least.

Re: Kia Sonet : Official Review

I am a very sedate driver. My 80% use is on highway and on highways I usually drive continuously for 2-3 hours in eco-mode at about 75 kmph and engine RPM approx 1450. I have done 18000 km in 1 yearand 10 months. Should I be worried about DPF issues? So far, I have had none.
