Re: Kia Sonet : Official Review

Sonet owners, how good or bad of a mileage are you getting?
In traffic conditions, I am getting no better and 10 kmpl on the MID with AC On.
I own a Sonet GTX Diesel AT. Just want to check if its only me or the car is a fuel guzzler.

MID i get 15 kmpl. Tank to tank it's 13kmpl. This is mostly with heavy to moderate traffic and with AC always on. On highway i get 21-22kmpl on MID and 19 with tank to tank. You are definitely getting quite less. Check your driving style and in bumper to bumper traffic use the ECO mode as much possible. Mine is also D-AT.

Thanks for the feedback. I drive quite enthusiastically on the highway and was able to get 18-20 and have no complaints.
But in traffic its completely different story, during the initial days I got around 13 (maybe less traffic post covid), but now its getting worse.
I will try with ECO Mode, but I feel its too sluggish for my likes, but nevertheless will give it a go.

I've got a GTX DAT too. You can check recent fuelio logs. The last one is purely city with numerous short trips and frequent on-offs. Full AC too. I'm still scratching my head as to how @Harry10 gets 19

Well, here are few pics to ascertain that

I can get more but then I do some heavy foot driving in between to enjoy the engine.

On similar note, want to ask about the mileage for 7DCT Petrol.

I've done around 3500 odd km, most in city traffic and I'm getting around 11-12 as per the MID. I drive mostly in Normal mode in city and Sport on highways (around 800 km).

When I asked the service rep about this at my second service, He said its better than average as most people get around 10 kmpl in City. Since I wasn't using Eco mode much, he suggested to drive in that for better mileage.

Is this the same case for other DCT Petrol owners? Or I need to adapt my driving style a bit to get better mileage?

Just got my Sonet last week. So far am getting 9-10 in city traffic with AC. Did a small 100kms outskirts run and managed to get 12.5 with AC.
So I guess what you are getting is what we should expect from DCT models in city bumper to bumper traffic

Hi Guys

Wanted a quick check. I have GTX D AT done only 2.5 K

Can others confirm the tyre pressure they keep. I had it reduced from 36 to 32 as I find the car too bumpy at that psi. Resultant my FE is 12-14 in normal mode and city traffic.

Thanks

I am getting 12-14 kmpl in Mumbai traffic in normal mode with full AC over an 18km drive one way. However, this is against the rush hour traffic.

36 is only for full load, 33 is comfortable enough and recommended. 36 is only for full load of passengers and luggage. I get only around 11kmpl as my office run is only about 2km one way, longer distance in town with a highway run(flyover) gets 16kmpl.

In my trial and error i have found 33 in all tyres to be the best in terms of comfort and performance. My City FE is constant 13kmpl due to high temperature and lots of bumper to bumper traffic on my route.

Hello

Thought i will share a review of my recently purchased Kia Sonet

Anniversary Edition iMT Petrol. Its been 2 months and have driven approximately 500kms.

Booking
I had booked this car in January 2022, well informed by the Sales Advisors that it will take atleast 4-5months for the delivery. So i had offered them two options HTX iMT Petrol , or the Anniversary Edition iMT and i was okay with any colors from White,Black, Gray & Silver. I kept enquiring every fortnight for any update & by March i was pretty tired of waiting. One day the sales guy told me that there was a allocation that was available, it was a Gravity Gray Anniversary Edition iMT Petrol. and asked me if i was interested. I accepted the offer provided i get a pre delivery inspection & got them to share the VIN No. which was (Feb 2022). So we went ahead with the registration procedure & got delivery of the car post Holi.

* the SA insist on installing a lot of add ons like chrome bars etc. but i chose only the floor mats. I did not want any cosmetic addons since i was already buying the Anniversary Edition.

I will break down the Hits & Misses about the car.

Hits

Interiors Feel
The Car feels plush with the Dual Tone interior, feels very roomy and big inside. Its perfect for a family car. I put Seat Covers with a stitch which enhances the look, although factory seats are also fabulous. had to put seat covers since i had a kid and its not easy maintaining the factory seat covers. 8" Touch Screen with wireless phone projection is another plus point. the Whole interior has a leatherette finish which feels very premium

Exterior
Looks great with its tangering accents. the Gravity Gray looks buffed compared to the White, Silver. & Black. The front obviously looks awesome with the tiger nose grill. R16 Alloy Wheels compliment well.

Drive
the iMT is a breeze. Driving this car in the city is so much more comfortable than the manual transmission. the crawl mode in 1st gear is a boon in bumper to bumper traffic. On the highways it can be really powerful when turbo kicks in.

Suspension/Handling
Suspensions are great in city & on highways. Car absorbs a good amout of vibrations off the road.

Auto Headlamps
Headlamps turnon / off , automatically when you start/stop the car.

Welcome Mirrors.
the cars orvm open automatically when you walk towards the car

Keyless ignition
you can start the car with your keys from outside. Thats a cool feature to be able to ignite your engine before you walk in , & have it ready to drive.

Inbuilt rear window retractable sun screen is great to have in the summers.

Boot Space
Huge boot space to accomodate luggage for a family of 4. No complaints

After sales service has been great so far.

Misses

Rear Wiper
Rear Wiper should have been provided. Feels like it is so little to provide when you are offering so many features on the car.

Inbuilt Navigation
Wireless Phone projection is not compatible with many phones. Seems like they have a software issue which is not yet resolved. one of the Sales Advisor at service centre told me that its incompatible with the iPhone 13 as well & those customers were left absolutely disappointed.

Tyres
I am not sure about this. Is it the size of the car to tyres or my driving style, but the tyres really feel drifty at turns. i can feel a slight drift in the car.

Body Gaps
This is one big concern. the car has a lot of cuts & curves which means as many body gaps. & i live next to a playground, so i have so much dirt accumulating in these body gaps that its impossible to clean this on a daily basis.

Rear Side / Port Glass
Looks fantastic, but it needs to be cleaned / wiped accordingly. After such a short while, you can see some wipe marks on the glass, (the car cleaner must have wiped it with the regular cloth)

Paint
The Gravity Gray somehow does not feel like a deep paint. The Black & White both look like they are deep paints, however the gravity gray feels like a layer lesser than the black / white colors.

Even the black plastic moulds at the bottom , over the wheels etc feel like they need regular polishing. They lose their shine & catch white stains when washed with regular water / cloth.

1st After Sales Service
the Car felt less repsonsive in the 1st/2nd Gear after the 1st After sale Service. It felt like as if they turned off the Turbo. I got it checked with the advisor/engineer, took a few test drives. They said that there is nothing wrong with it. I still feel that the turbo response has been changed. ( maybe the turbo kicked in previously at 2000rpm, & now its 3000rpm)

Overtaking
One has to be cautious while manoeuvering a overtake in the iMT. It may not be as responsive as a manual transmission and you will need to spend sometime driving the iMT to understand how the car behaves.

Mileage
I have a mileage of 10kms , and the advisors at the service centre state that 10kms is a acceptable mileage for city driving.

Turning Radius
I find the Turning Radius very inconvenient to make turns/uturns. There have been times when the turning has been inadequate for parking lot ramps at certain malls. Compared to the Nissan Micra i have, the turning radius on Sonet is very bad.

Overall i am very happy with the purchase & love the drive. I have bought it as a family car & it satisfies all my major requirements. Look foward to some long drives soon. Would definitely recommend the Kia Sonet iMT . ( buy HTX Variant, or Above for features)

Would love to have your feedback.

I think you're getting close to what one can expect in the city traffic. But yeah, driving style really makes a difference. Avoiding sudden acceleration/breaking, and frequent gear shifts will give you better efficiency. I've got 13kmpl and 7kmpl in Bangalore depending on the traffic, but the average would 10-11kmpl.

I'm getting 11-13 in my hometown. It's the rural, narrow, hilly roads in Kerala with mild traffic.

I get 14-18 on highways, but it's mostly 14-15 if I take an average. It's like 15-17 on the four-lane stretches but then maybe 11-13 on the single-lane stretches; my highway drives will also have some idling so it averages out to ~14 by the time I reach the destination.

Also, factor in the weather as well. I was getting at least 1km more before the summer.

To summarise, one can expect 10-13 in cities and 14-17 on highways.

All these numbers may be irrelevant without knowing the driving style. I'm a spirited driver (of course, not in the cities) practicing defensive driving. I drive mostly on the normal mode and say 10% sports, and never tried the eco mode other than to test the driving experience. The odo is ~7000kms (60-70% highways); The tire pressure is maintained at around 33psi, and AC is always on and will be set to 23-24.

Here's the link to a post I shared on the FE thread when the ODO was ~2500, https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...ml#post5174279 (What is your Actual Fuel Efficiency?)

33psi is what I maintain, I'd recommend the same if your car isn't fully loaded.
