Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

The universe always has a funny way of leading us to what is right for us. Felicitations on the purchase of an absolute tank of a car! The Harrier will serve you extremely well and will always give you a very safe and sound feel.

A few months back, I was having a discussion with my FIL about new cars as he was looking to buy a car for himself. He's slightly on the heavier side, as most punjabi fathers are, and he prefers a higher driving position. I asked him to consider Harrier AT and that he should TD it once. After this, I was posted out of Chandigarh for a few months and when I came back, I was surprised to see a Harrier XZA Plus Dual Tone AT parked at my in-laws' place. He was mighty impressed with the car and till today he raves about the ride quality and build quality of the vehicle. And he always says that it was only because of me he considered the car as everyone else around him still had the image of Tata of old. 😁

Can some one with recent purchase confirm if this is true.

Wired AA/Car play is a pain in the behind and if a hardware or software upgrade is possible , I would very much like it even if it’s paid
I have a dec manufactured XZA+ DARK. I think it has wireless Android Auto. My phone, maps was getting displayed on infotainment screen without any wired connectivity.

Thank you for confirming this. The service advisor also specifically called out the XZA+ dark edition model that has been coming with wireless AA and CarPlay functionality since the last couple of months.

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

My Harrier XZA+ will be going for its 1st year service, next week. Odo stands at ~14500 kms.

Am I happy with the car ? Absolutely. It's been a joy to own. No niggles to report. Cabin feels tights even after a years running on some bad roads. Due to WFH and a lot of time to spare, my weekends are spent detailing the car. Attaching a couple of pictures

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

Hi all, I took delivery of my Harrier around 20 days back and it has been a largely pleasant experience so far. I will jot down my journey on a separate post.

Going through the manual given to me along with the car, I had a few observations and wanted to share with the larger forum here. These are mostly features which are not available as per official brochure, or even as per the sales member. Mine is a Jan 2022 manufactured Harrier XZ+ and the date on User Manual is of November 2021.

1. Air Purifier: There is reference to Air Purifier with screenshots of air quality being shown on the infotainment screen. However, I haven’t been able to find this yet. The manual does put in a caveat of ‘If applicable’ in this case. Now since mine is the top variant, not sure which other variant is there which has Air purification. Personally speaking would love to have this feature. 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review-air-purifier.jpg

2. IRA Connected Car: This one is stated as available without any caveat. However, my sales advisor wasn’t aware of the same. I check with my service advisor and he mentioned that the KYC is to be done of the same. Personally speaking, would be a good to have feature. 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review-ira-connected-car.jpg

3. Wireless Charger: Same caveat as in case of Air purifier, and leads to the same question of which variant has it. Not so relevant today from personal point of view, might be useful down the line. 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review-wireless-charging.jpg

4. Ventilated seats: This one as well with the caveat of ‘if available”. Who wouldn’t want this feature if it is available. 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review-ventilated-seat.jpg

Things I am trying to get more information on:
1. Wireless android auto: There was no info about this in the physical manual. They refer to download the manual for infotainment unit separately online. Have downloaded it but yet to go through. I asked my service advisor, he said that it will come after some time but not live as of now.
2. Tyre Pressure Monitoring system: Couldn’t find anything on this so far. I say so far because haven’t finished the manual yet. Personally speaking, would love this feature.

The absence of TPMS signals that presence of Air Purifier, IRA, wireless charger in manual is probably not because of clumsy work by someone of not filtering out Safari's feature before printing Harrier's manual.

So, quite confusing as to why the above features are listed in user manual if they aren’t even present in the top model. Do they plan to bring these as updates or am I missing anything? I seriously hope they haven’t released just the Dark Edition with these features.

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

Update after 1150 kms of my XZA+DARK Dec, 21 manufacturing -

1. IRA is not available for Harrier.
2. Wireless Android auto and Apple car play is available. Just sit in the car with Bluetooth on and then wireless of phone switches on automatically and connects. Not able to connect the video as it says invalid file.
3. No niggles yet.
4. No lag in infotainment system but it can be buggy sometimes.
5. Excellent speakers but needs bit of damping if you want it really loud.
6. Difficult to close tail gate and doors, frequent warnings that the door is not closed yet.
7. 80 kmph beep is acceptable and non existent but at 120 kmph it's bit annoying.
8. Can't drive without seatbelt, beeping will make you use the seatbelt. It's a big plus as i don't need to convince any co passenger.
9. Service is at 1000-2000 kms/2 months and running is 2000 kms so will get it serviced later.
10. It's difficult to maintain black but when it shines it just floors. The bluish sparkle is mind-blowing.
11. Drastic difference between eco, city and sports mode.
12. TD vehicle was a manual and had a heavy steering at low speeds but the car that I have got has very light steering even at zero speed. I would have liked it to be heavy at high speeds. I am coming from Jetta.

Definitely looking for the above quoted features for my XZA+ July harrier. Any idea if wireless ACP/AA needs any hardware update or it’s just a firmware update ?

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

Guys is it possible to replace the Infotainment in the Harrier XZ/XZA variants with an aftermarket one? The current one is just awful from my brief interactions with it.

Most of th se features are only meant for Safari top editions as per my interaction with RM/ SA at local Tata dealerships. I'm actually trying to convince my wife for a 7 seater over a 5 seater because of these omissions.

I have checked few YouTube videos where they said it's difficult to install any aftermarket infotainment system on other than XE variants because of company fitted protective glass which if broken or removed would void the warranty. Maybe you need to grin & bear the 8.8" screen for some more time till something's available.

That's a shame. That infotainment screen is the only thing holding me back from getting a Safari/Harrier.

Exactly my gripe too.

I have driven the Harrier at some serious speeds and sadly it remained light all through

Other than that, it's a great car. Congratulations!

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

December 21 xza+, now approaching 5000km. How I wish the steering was a little heavier. Took it on the road to wild planet resort near Ooty. Proper off-road experience. I'm not sure if the rough road mode made any difference.

Gundlupet to Ooty to wild planet to Mysore, I got an average of 9, by tank full method.

I realised how good the nvh is that the speed sensitive volume becomes a little too loud at higher speeds.

Few features that the xuv700 has that I would have liked in the harrier. Memory seats, full digital cluster and 360 camera view.

Would suggest to go through the user manual - that will be a good pointer for this. The presence of above features has piqued my interest in getting to the root of it. Absence of wireless Android Auto, Air Purifier, TPMS, and ventilated seats (clearly not included) were setting Harrier back at the time purchase decision. Availability of the first 2 would be a pleasant surprise.

Wireless Android Auto seems most plausible - there are reports of the it coming by Dec 2021 onwards Harrier Black Edition. DOn't see any reason why it wouldn't be there in Harrier XZ variants.

Yeah, that was my first impression as well - that Safari's features have been included in the manual. However, I didn't find any mention of TPMS or electronic parking brake (both available in Safari) in the manual, which makes me believe that these features are there in top variant of Harrier.

Will clarify the above with dealership at the time of number plate attachment.
