Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

Hello Everyone,
Just received a call from the showroom, my Harrier XMA is ready for delivery. I will be taking the delivery today.
I have already read the Team-BHP new car PDI checklist.
Any suggestion from existing owners, things I should check during PDI.
Thank you
O.T.
I am very excited, feeling like a child taking delivery of his first cycle.

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

70mai Internal TPMS : Bought it online from 70 mai online store for INR 5499/- and get it installed from a tyre store. completely wireless and sensors communicate via RF to receiver display which runs on solar

70 mai dash cam pro (without gps) : Bought it online from 70mai online store for INR 5999/- . Have to install this properly by routing the wires

Please do share pictures of both the installed devices. How is the wiring of the dashcam done? Does it meddle with the car's circuitry, thereby effecting warranty?

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

Took the delivery of the car day before yesterday. The delivery experience was good, and the car was delivered without any fuzz.
Have ridden the car for some 100 km so far.

Initial impression:-
After owning Skoda for 5 years, I could immediately find the ergonomics flaws in the Harrier (XMA).
1. No lock/unlock button. Need to bend the arm and pull lock/unlock lever to unlock/lock the car.
2. Separate fog lamp button. IMO it should be on the lighting stalk only.
3. Left knee interfering with the dashboard. Cannot find any position in which interference can be prevented (I am 5'8" tall).
3. Mirror adjustment on A-pillar. My god, you realize ergonomics of German cars only when you switch to another origin brand. In Skoda, I never had to stretch my right arm for any control, like mirror adjustment, door unlock/ lock.
4. The armrest is useless, no meaning of an armrest if neither driver nor passenger can put their elbow on it. Better to call it storage compartment rather than armrest.
5. Steering buttons do not feel sturdy at all. One will have to press them with your fingers perpendicular to it, or else you will feel the rubbing friction.
6. Under thigh support is not adequate, have not been able to find the right driving position yet.
7. No seatbelt adjustment, some will find belt rubbing against their neck.
8. Visibility from the rearview mirror is not adequate.
9. "A" paddle travel is very long.
10. Even at fan speed level 1, airflow is very high.

Some good points (Apart from looks):-

1.Headlights are very bright (even with halogen bulbs).
2. With 235 70 R16 in XMA, ride is very comfortable on bumpy roads.
3. The music system is good even on the base variant. Do not expect loud bass, but it delivers good vocals and instruments effect.
4. Space inside the car is amazing, one will never complain about boot space, legroom, cabin space.
5. 3 USB charging points along with one 12V socket.

Troubles found in the new car:-

1. Glove box light not working (during PDI it was working, after front parking sensors installation it is not working). I have talked to my sales executive, and on 2nd Oct I will take the car to the showroom for resolution of this issue.
2. Wheel alignment, on a highway the car is moving slight left (I have checked the tyre pressure it is as per maker recommendation, 33 PSI for all 4 wheels).
3. After parking the car under direct sunlight, front parking sensors started malfunctioning. Continuously beeping even when there is nothing in front (This happened yesterday, will check it again today. If the issue persists, will get it checked).
4. The ICE touch screen is very slow to respond (I believe it is same for all cars).
5. Remote boot unlock (as per owners manual in XMA holding the follow me home button for 2+ seconds will unlock the boot) some times not working.
Rattling noise at high bass setting even when the volume is moderately high.

Some points related to Tata policy:-

1. Installing third party rearview mirror camera will void the warranty (Tata genuine accessory RVMC costs whopping Rs 16,000, after checking the quality of top variant RVC, I opted for not getting it installed). Now I will be installing RVMC as a passive device, taking power supply from 12V socket. Additionally, will not plug it with reverse parking lamp. Will use 70mai RVMC with DVR, it has reverse view on-demand function.
2. TPMS at tata showroom costs Rs 19,000 when same Blaupunkt unit is available on Amazon for Rs 9350.(Link)
3. Range of accessories is limited, and any electronic accessory from outside will void your warranty.

Will update the post once the issues are resolved.

Regards

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

Update:
First free service done . Niggles got solved

1. For left pulling , done the wheel balancing

2. Boot opening with Keyfob : service guys told me this option is not available due to the availability of boot open switch in harrier and this option is meant for other cars with out this option . Tested on other Harrier, and it’s the same with others too .

3. DEF : 2 litres. Total capacity :15 litres. Filled almost 8 litres before our Kerala trip (2200km)

Service Charges: 1500 /-

Ceramic Coating
Done ceramic coating with 2 year warranty from Flowrence Car Care , Trivandrum , contact number : +91 93887 19975 . ( please take this review as my personal experience . I am in no way connected with the business . I am not an expert in car care and detailing )
Review : very good workmanship and detailing . The owner Mr. Dilip is very knowledgeable and didn’t push any false promises . Ceramic coating is not a magic wand and we need to maintain the car periodically but coating will help us in doing it easily
Brand : Xpel ceramic 9h
Cost :28k/-

This is not true. I have a Tigor XZ and there is a boot opening button inside and also the key fob button can be used to open it (Long press the light button). Not sure how they skimped on this in the Harrier.

Your observations and tone seem to suggest that you are disappointed by your new Harrier. If that is the case, I'm curious as to why you bought it even after not being impressed with it. If I am mistaken, I look forward to your rebuttal.

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

Went to showroom/service centre today for resolution of the issues mentioned in my previous post.

1. Glovebox light not turning ON - Resolved, a wire went loose while fixing the front parking sensors. Same was connected, and it is working fine now.
2. Car moving slight left - Resolved, wheel alignment done and front-wheel swapping done.
3. Front parking sensors issue - Have not occurred again.
4. Remote boot unlock- Was not able to demonstrate the issue at SVC, there it was working fine. (Funny thing, neither sales nor service team is aware of this function {holding follow me home button for more than 2 seconds will unlock the boot in XM/XMA})

It was a tough call for me to choose a car within my budget, which checked all the boxes. Riding dynamics of Harrier are quite good, and that is what I will be enjoying the most in my new Harrier. I love the way it performs. Now, why I sounded so sad is because of my purchase experience and lack of hospitality/customer-centric behaviour from Tata.
Otherwise, the car is wonderful, more I am driving it more I am loving it.
There are some niggles which are making this new car experience a bit unpleasant, which I have mentioned in my post.

That is not actually true, it worked on my Harrier. The boot itself would unlock while the immobilizer would still be on (same as when you just unlock the boot via the release button on tailgate). I haven't used this feature for a long time, the last time I did was before going in for the first service in March. During the first service, the ECU and infotainment were updated, not sure if this feature stopped working with the update. Will check with my svc when I go for the latest infotainment update sometime this week.

No official announcements yet, except for the fact that Tata is developing a Petrol 1.5 Liter, four-cylinder version of the 1.2 Revotron turbo (Nexon). Timelines for launch are all speculations till date.
