This might be an odd answer, but take to a good alignment center and ask them to check for uneven tire wear.

Good Years came as stock in my 2022 Polo GT Legend. The issues started at around 15k kms, pull towards left side, wobbling above 120 kph, wobbling during braking, reduced FE, quick wearing of discs (Running on my third set of discs by 30k kms).

The ASC people tried their best and eventually gave up, made the condition worse, the wobbling started at 70+ kph, immediately took it an alignment center where do the alignment manually, a quick glimpse on the tires and he said the issue was with uneven wear of tires. he cross rotated(front left becomes rear right, front right becomes rear left and vice versa) the tires and completely fixed the issue. ( Eventually I replaced the stock tires to Yokohama Earth 1 at 33k Kms on the odo).

Just give a call/book an appointment before going to these places since they're are usually full.
Thank you so much. I am exploring both the options and should have an update very soon.

I work in Bangalore and I keep moving between Chennai and Bangalore. To rule out any alignment/balancing issues, I got the vehicle checked at Madhus, Bangalore too. The alignment was off. It was corrected and again the issue resurfaced in few kms during the drive back to Chennai.

You are not alone. I had one such comic experience with my another car . I didn't want to take chances this time in polo. This problem has been plaguing me for almost 6 months now. During this time period, to isolate such issues, I tried:
  • Filling air in two different hand help pumps.
  • Filled air in different and reliable petrol pumps.
  • Got the alignment and balancing done is two different reliable places - MRF Tyredrome, Adyar, Chennai AND Madhus, Bangalore.

Long story short - I am convinced and certain that it's not an alignment and balancing issue. Recently I had changed the tyres to new ones as the existing ones had clocked close to 52k Kms.
As suggested by Turbohead, I am going to get it checked for other possible issues. Will have an update soon.

Once again, Thank you everyone for sharing your insights.

Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.0L TSI : Official Review

I have exploring some performance mods for my Polo 1.0 TSI TC AT, specifically to address the turbo lag at sub-2k RPMs. I test drove a stage 1 tuned polo, and while the mid-range grunt is much improved, it still had a sluggish low end.

Another thing I noticed is that the AT box is quick to shift to second gear, thereby exacerbating the lag at low speeds. While driving in manual mode, the lag is much more controlled if I stay in 1st gear till 30kmph or so.

Question: Has anyone attempted a TCU remap on the Polo 1.0 torque converter gearbox?
I feel this would make the car much more driveable, especially in stop and go traffic...

From what I know, the TQ gearbox on the Polo isn't tune-able (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Mind sharing the name of the tuner who worked on the Polo you drove?

I'm currently in the analysis-paralysis state pertaining to tuning my GT TSI. I reached out to Wolf (as recommended here), however they told me they don't have a partner in the Delhi/NCR region, hence will have to wait for them to visit.

I've also visited Autopsyche and GTTunerz, planning to visit Speedsport soon and then make up my mind. Since, this is my daily and still under warranty, I am in no rush until I'm completely satisfied.

Have you guys given a thought to the throttle booster equipment viz. EVCX, Got Booster, Pedal Tune etc ?

IMO they would solve this low end lag case in the city pretty much without affecting the warranty.

The Polo I drove was tuned by WolfMoto (Engineering Exponent in Bangalore)

I have asked around with a lot of tuners in India, and none of them have maps for the AQ250 Aisin TC gearbox for the Polo 1.0 TSI.

Looks like there are shops abroad who do it, example below:
https://www.bmptuning.com/products/i...n-tune-2-5l-i5

Haven't explored throttle boosters - has anyone tried it on the 1.0 TSI ?

Honestly, no. But you make a great point. I'll look into this.

I've had an itch to tune the car since I got it. Hence, all research has been in that direction.

Does a throttle booster do anything other than fool the ECU into thinking that the gas pedal is pushed farther than it really is? If that's the case, then we should be able to get similar effects by flooring it, right?

Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.0L TSI : Official Review

The front left tyre had a cut, so got new tires for the front wheels, a pair of continental UC6 205/55/16.

Also, my father was after my life to get reverse camera installed. The VW logo flip camera was very expensive, installed Blaupunkt just above the number plate.

How's your experience with the upsized UCs?

What's the effect on grip, driving dynamics etc.?

Also, now that your front and rear wheels are different sizes, is the ABS throwing any warnings?

Have been running on 205/55/16 since 11k kms, odo is now at 49k kms. All 4 tyres are same brand/size. Just got new pair for the front as the tires still had life left, but due to cut had to get one replaced.

Experience has been good, not much change in dynamics of the car except steering, which has become heavier at slow speeds.

Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.0L TSI : Official Review

Hi everyone!

Got done my Polo’s 2nd service done in Jan. Dealership put 5w 40 (Special G) engine oil in it. Having read @fluidicjoy’s multiple posts on correct oil for 1.0 TSI in India, I let them do it. But now I’ve seen a few videos of Slavia 1.0 TSI getting 0w 20 (Longlife FE) engine oil. Apart from worse fuel efficiency is there any point I should be worried about?

Would like to read thoughts of other 1.0 TSI owners. Thank you.

Regards

Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.0L TSI : Official Review

Hi all,

I have a 1.0 TSI and have clocked 14k on it. I wanted to know what's a typical performance upgrade path for this car.

I mean if one wants to approach the upgrade step by step strictly, what would be the recommended steps? I've tried to take a shot at what it could look like to me, please correct.

1) Euro air intake
2) Performance Air Filter
3) Stage 1 map
4) Racing line turbo intake
5) Custom exhaust?
6) ??

I'm looking for purely performance gains, not interested in exhaust note or aesthetics.

Brakes n tyres I'm assuming are in parallel and can be done at any stage of upgrade

I have a Polo 1.0 TSI AT and have the same questions as you, with the addition of this: how do we reduce the turbo lag at low RPMs, which is made worse by the fact that the car holds 2nd gear even when you slow down to less than 10kmph!?

One way may be to install a paddle shifter steering and manually shift down to 1st gear when you slow down.. Any comments/suggestions on this?

The best way to tackle this of course, would be to remap the TCU of the Aisin AQ250 gearbox, but I couldn't find any tuner in India who's able to do that....

I have a 1L TSI MT. Done quite a bit in upgrades in consultation with experts, mainly KS Motorsport.

Brake upgrade comes first. I've gone for KS Steel Braided brake lines and EBC Yellow Stuff pads. Very effective for city and speeds up to 80kmph. Beyond that I had to use engine braking as well. Got rear drum brakes adjusted (for early engagement on using hand brake). Seems to have increased the stopping power but will know once I push it on the highway. If still inadequate, I'll consider a big brake kit.

2nd comes air filter. I have upgraded to BMC and as I understand that is good enough to prepare for stage 1 remap. That's from Wolf. 119BHP At The Wheels.

If driving at night, DHC LED 4300k bulbs help a lot. 75W High beam, 55W low is superb.
