Re: MG Hector : Official Review

MG says Hector NCAP ratings will be out soon. Hoping for a 5 star rating as the car had similar rating in Chinese NCAP. A 5 star crash rating will help MG marketing team as the sales were affected a lot by increasing competition from SAFARI and also newer competitions to its daily bread petrol variants with ALCAZAR and Skoda KUSHAQ. Looks like MG will reveal the data around XUV 700 launch.

Re: MG Hector : Official Review

Bought my CVT on 03 Mar and have driven around 6500 Kms since.
I ve achieved approximately 9-10 kmpl in city and 11-12 Kmpl on highway in fully laden condition. Once on twice when I was the totally occupant of the car driving on open highway I got around 13.5-14 Kmpl for 200 Km strech.

Have done about 15k kms in my almost
2 year old Hector DCT.

I get very similar numbers with AC always on.

9-11kmpl in city

12-14kmpl in inter city highways with 3 people mostly

I’m generally a sedate driver so usually don’t go above 80kmph that much (I do go above it for overtakes or spirited driving sessions… but that’s not the norm)

MG to fix software in 14k Hector SUVs, after CoP failure.

Quote:
The Morris Garages India will carry out reflashing or remapping of a software in around 14,000 DCT BS6 variant of Hectors after a government-owned testing agency found that samples of this model failed in the conformity of production (CoP) tests.
Quote:
International Centre for Automotive Technology (iCAT) at Manesar in Haryana conducted tests on some of the samples picked up from the company’s factory for testing. They added the vehicles did not clear the CoP tests vis-ŕ-vis the type approval for the engine for this variant. Sources said the tests found variations in HydroCarbon and NOx emission

A decade back we had something like this with Chevrolet TAVERA. Some things are common with MG other than Halol plant.

Besides, a police case may be initiated in Gujarat and Maharashtra where GM India has its two manufacturing facilities.

Re: MG Hector : Official Review

Got the new MG Hector hybrid petrol smart variant MT yesterday and have driven some 100 kms in Ggn in various traffic situations ,highest speed was 59 on expressway but that was it owing to weekend crowd .There have been some spirited pickups off the light turning green and some overtakes.
Mileage achieved was 9.4 kmpl so am hoping it increases after 1st service.Overall very comfortable and easy to maneuver for the length it has.The headlight light up good during night drive...still getting used to voice commands...the only gripe noticed so far is remote locate and tracking of car which doesn't work every time..even under open sky and with good airtel signals..hope that's also ironed out in next update

The customers shall be charged ₹450+taxes for the same.
MG has waived off the certificate cost of MMI as an introductory offer.

But first we have to take appointment and some necessary software will be provided through fota and one software will be provided to us from 10Aug.

Re: MG Hector : Official Review

Quick update ,the more I drove in Delhi NCR the better were the FE figures with AC on the whole time and waiting on the red lights and slight traffic jams, the FE it gave me for about the 60km trip I did was 12.4 which I think is quite good for the car its size.Generally FE figures get better with first few services so I have my fingers crossed. Was quite apprehensive abt the FE but last drive put me at ease.I am used to driving the Fiat Grande Punto which I still got , stability around corners was pretty much same and no body roll experienced at 50kmph turns which is quite surprising as I read some reviews complaining about body rolls.I didn't feel it,neither did my co-passenger,may be it's to do with the bigger 18 inch wheels that it comes with.Screen lags
is mostly reduced except for Tom Tom navigation which seemed slow to show the exit when on roundabouts.Hope that's sorted with the mapmyindia update.i think ownership experience is getting better by the day and hope it stays so

Re: MG Hector : Official Review

Hi Everyone,

I am evaluating MG Hector Plus Petrol Mild Hybrid manual variant. I had few queries and wanted to get clarity from existing owners:

1. What is the real wold fuel efficiency in city for manual petrol mild hybrid

2. If anyone has a base (style) manual petrol version, what's the fuel efficiency of that model (non hybrid)

3. Is there any challenge related to ground clearance

4. Is the ride soft or stiff at low speeds

5. Is it possible to negotiate with the dealer for any discounts (the dealer has straightway stated no)

6. Is is possible to negotiate on the dealer provided insurance quote (the dealer is not very receptive of me bringing in competitive quotes)

7. Is it advisable to purchase service AMC

8. If anyone has recently purchased the Super 7 seater variant (petrol/diesel), can you please let me know the colour of the fabric cladding on the dashboard

Thanks

Re: MG Hector : Official Review

My petrol cvt gives 10 in the city and if driven around 80-100 kmph, close to 14-15 on highways. If I go to pickup groceries then I get around 7-8 for these type of ultra short runs.

The ride is very comfortable for kids and elderly sitting at the back. It’s meant for comfort. There are other better cars that are tuned slightly differently for the more enthusiastic driver.

No discount was given when I asked. I got them to give me a better insurance for the same price. That’s all.

Never faced any issues with ground clearance fully loaded boot and rear passengers. On normal everyday roads and highways.

I have recently booked the Hybrid Petrol Hector Plus. I'm not really qualified to reply, but no harm in sharing thoughts!

1. I'm expecting ~8 kmpl in the city (I live in Bangalore and even this can be optimistic here!) and ~12 on the highway- assuming a standard driving style. This is based on company claims and the discussions on these forums.

2. Hybrid petrol's efficiency is claimed to be 12% better than normal Petrol. Make it 8-9% IRL (in real life). So 7.5 in normal petrol manual may become 8 and 11 may become 12 and so on.

3. The front of the car tends to brush past the ground while negotiating a big pothole (I'm assuming at high speeds- at normal speeds, it should be alright). This has been mentioned in some reviews.

4. During my test drive, I found this a bit of an anomaly. I could feel the speed bumps compared to my friend's 2009 Fiat Linea. (Raised this question in the forum but did not get a reply). I did realize that Linea, especially the older one, had great handling, suspension and tires combo. However, the highway drive was very smooth and we barely felt a thing despite touching 120.

5. Not really. At the max, consider yourself lucky if you get some accessories- at least here in Bangalore.

6. This should be possible. My dealer agreed but asked me to provide my own quotation so that he may have a chance to match it. I'm fine with that.

7. This is an area I'd need some thoughts too. 5 services in the first 3 years are assured with parts, lubes and labour. Now in 2019, the value of the first 5 services, as calculated by Autocar, was ~17k. It must have gone north in the intervening 2 years. However, the price of the Shield Basic plans have been jacked up from 8000 to 12000 as well. Overall, it appears beneficial but not by much after the price hike.

Hope this is somewhat helpful!

Thank you Derek and RiverRanger.

A few followup queries for @RiverRanger:

1. Which location provided you a TD of Petrol Hector Plus. Asking as I was provided a TD of petrol Hector, stating that Hector Plus was not available for TD (petrol hybrid)

2. The suspension on the TD Hector vehicle (and not plus) were pleasant at low speeds as well. This is despite the fact that 3 of the 4 tyres, were having 35+ psi. Low ride comfort is of supreme importance to me. Bangalore has plenty of speed breakers and I hate stiff suspension (my swift has them). And so do almost all of the newer entrees in SUVs segment. I will surely take another TD and revert back if there was a change in ride comfort

3. On the insurance part, do we need to get it in writing that the dealer will match the quote provided by us

4. If I may ask, which model are you going ahead with.

A few followup queries for @RiverRanger:
1. In my case, the experience was the opposite. I checked out 2 dealers, one in e-city and one in JP Nagar. Both offered Hector Plus only as the test vehicle.

2. Yes, do take test drives till you feel comfortable. I took 3 in Hectors (Plus) only. The result was- I started out looking for Hector and ended up booking the Plus! Another observation from my wife was that the 3rd-row seat had actually a more stable ride than the 2nd row captain seats. Again it's best to check oneself- as there is a lot of subjectivity involved as well.

3. I'm not sure but wouldnt think it is needed. I plan to go for my own insurance anyway.

4. I have booked the Sharp variant.
