This one is again a cancellation. The car is in transit mode and PDI has not been done. It's run mere 19kms. If interested please let me know. It's in one of the showrooms here down south. |
Is it in Calicut? I got few pics of a red Octavia RS in what's app group saying this is the last one from current lot and sold :D
What a car! Really like it inside out. Err... except for those new front lights. I haven't been able to make peace with it still. It doesn't look ugly, but it sure looks very odd.
Maybe it is because the current Octavia was such a nice looking car when it debuted. Good to read that lights are tremendous at night. At least it makes up in function what it loses out on form.
Cars like these are still in that fantasy garage for me, so I will lust after the original one. lol:
Just look at it, got so much grace!
Moving on, I wouldn't change anything on the inside though. Its just perfect.
And it is brilliantly packaged for our market. Great power-train and standard kit at a superb price. So glad the entire lot is sold out. :thumbs up

Hehe it's not in Calicut .. that one from calicut is now with one of us tbhpians. :D
This could very well be the last provided someone who is yet to take delivery doesn't cancel theirs!:)

Well....maybe...for me the real deal should start right from the exhaust manifold. This is definitely better compared to what Mercedes have done.

Hands down the best looking steering wheel in its segment and several above.

True. Those power windows switches look out of place too.
Contrast red stitching looks wicked
Indeed. I like that it is almost perfectly aligned too. This is class.

Air Care |
It is a nice feature where it keeps bringing in fresh air every now and then.
The same recirculated and conditioned air in a car is what adds to that tiredness feeling when you spend far too much time inside a car with the aircon in recirculate mode. In fact, this also leads to drowsiness.
Would be interesting to know how long the special filter can hold up in our conditions.

Another upside of this box is that, since the torque limit is 400 Nm, even a remap can be done on the vRS without concerns about putting excessive strain on the gearbox. |
Another thing that this says is you can thrash the gearbox with the paddle shifter if you must.

This car or version of the vRs was more a badge job than anything else.

Looks like Skoda got their priorities wrong during assembly and factory PDI.
Suspension Block : Yes and don't remove them.
Under Bonnet insulation : Don't care.

Indeed. Double duty. Lube the engine and act as a way to lube and cool the turbo in addition to liquid (coolant) cooling.

I have started to call these cycles tires as thats exactly what they look like. Atleast a 185 section tire should have been there.
On economy, I thought 5-7 is more than acceptable. That's what I used to get thrashing a puny 1.4l T Jet.
Can't say this car for everyone cause of its price tag. However; we've finally crossed the 200Bhp barrier for high performance petrol cars (At this price point) and this has been a long time coming. This sort of performance was possible only if you went close to 50lacs. Great times indeed.
What a Car! And at such a lovely price. So much drool, man!
It just makes so many other cars pointless. I can just keep staring at the Steel Grey one.
How often does it happen that the car gets sold out before it's official T-BHP review is out :D
Excellent car & excellent review. The car is a fantastic upgrade for 2.0 Tdi owners who doesn't want flashy badge of a bimmer or doesn't want to break their banks.
Being a Jetta 2.0 Tdi owner, I suppose I will start hunting pre-owned vRS after couple of years.
The VRS is faster than the BMW 530i - a car that is more than double its price!

From Skoda India and BMW India official websites :
Octavia RS 0-100 : 6.8 seconds
BMW 530i 0-100 : 6.2 seconds

If you really want performance, you can my the s60 Polestar at the price of the 530i. It has a 0-100 time of 4.5 secs.

Even the 330i is quicker to the ton. 5.8 seconds to be exact.RWD is also there.
Having said that, the VRS is much more affordable and will be worth every single penny.

ACI figures: (more reliable as the website does not give figures for the slightly detuned engines sold here)
0-100:
RS: 6.65 seconds
530i: 6.69 seconds
20-80 kmph in 3rd gear:
RS: 4.07 seconds
530i: 4.15 seconds
40-100 kmph in 4th gear:
RS: 4.73 seconds
530i: 4.80 seconds.

Polestar has been discontinued. Sadly as soon as it was launched! Polestar will only be making the Polestar 1 in future. The low price was attractive but with the discontinuance, one wonders whether it was a stock clearance sale.

While I understand the sentiment, and without detracting from the impressive prowess of the vRS in any way, I believe that only a well put-together 6 cylinder or bi-turbo with creature/driver comforts could be an upgrade from a remapped Jetta 2.0 TDI :)
Back to normal programming for this thread, this vRS is an excellent package. The features and scarcity will ensure that well maintained specimens will likely retain the allure of cult classics in the used car market.

I wonder if Autocar tested the 530i with the launch control feature. Their 0-100 figures for the 530D from the official are exactly the same as those quoted on the BMW website (5.7 seconds). We also know BMW is often conservative with their advertised 0-100 times.

That's because they didn't fully test the 530D and so have used the figures off the website. See attached pic where ACI mentions that the 0-100 times are as claimed by BMW.

It is still available in 2018 garb with lots of carbon fiber parts that reduce weight from the previous year and increase downforce.
