Re: Maruti Ignis : Official Review

Thanks @Condor - I do agree the K12 VVT is quite likable and peppy engine. The 1.2 dual jet is also 4 cylinder and more fuel efficient but should not make that big a difference. I will likely end up acquiring the current avatar of IGNIS soon, but somehow don't like the AGS of MSL (not many options though at this price point).

Guys, picked this pic from this thread:

Looks like this Ignis has a moulding strip at the bottom of the door. I am looking for a black one like this. Any idea where can I get one ?

I got this from Nexa itself during delivery. Is this what you are looking for ?

Please check the pic in my post - and the location I have mentioned as bottom of the door.

You could do a TD of the new swift vs Ignis and check the difference.

Regarding FE:
The Wagon-R and the Ignis both have the 1.2 with AGS. But the Wagon-R FE is rated noticeably higher than that of the Ignis. It will show a difference in real-world driving.

But having said that, the AGS feels nice. Havent driven much yet, but a steady right-food is needed and it does drive quite nicely.

Thanks @Condor! We, I and my wife, did do TDs of Alto K10, S Presso, New Swift, Hyundai NiOS, and of course IGNIS, all AMTs/AGS'. Wanted her to check Honda Amaze, but she was just uninterested. Somehow, my wife's eyes were stuck at IGNIS and she was clear she wanted IGNIS due to its small profile and looks. To me it ticked all boxes, 1.2L engine, 4-cylinders, 180 mm GC, decent mileage, no taxi image, fewer on road unlike other ones, and MSL reliability. So, finally we decided to acquire one and took delivery on 17th September, 2024, Tuesday, which was quite an auspicious day for us. It replaced our trusted warhorse Toyota Etios petrol which we sold after nearly 11 years. Picked the top end Alpha Pearl Artctic White AGS to minimize aftermarket fitments. Will write detailed ownership review later.

So far, have driven just 220+ kms - quite satisfied with the car. There are just two things that i am trying to figure out ways to manage.

1) It is well known that AMTs/AGS' are not very smooth gearboxes, but in IGNIS i see the lower gears (1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd) are very slow in upshifting - almost crosses 2,000 RPM before upshifts, thereby making the ride expectedly jerky in Bangalore traffic and also forcing me to rev to upshift.

2) While everyone who drove IGNIS did mention stiff suspension and i was kind of fine with it after having done a number of TDs. However, it seems i underestimated the stiff ride quality in city.

These are early days and i am sure learning curve will play out and i will learn to adapt to it, but grateful if i can get inputs from owners here...

For reference, I drive Toyota Hyryder Hybrid, which has super smooth eCVT gear box and class-leading suspension. Even the suspension set up in Etios provides quite comfortable ride quality in city. This could also be a reason for initial discomfort with gear and suspension in IGNIS.

There are two options available as MGA
1. 990J0M66R01-100- (chrome)
2. 990J0M66R01-060 (Silky silver).

You may take the silky silver and get it painted black. Or wrap it with Carbon/black vinyl before fitment. You can order them from the Maruti Suzuki app for from their website or directly at the dealer. For app/online, they will arrange it through a dealer.

For the stiff suspension surprisingly due to a soft spring, I am trying out the Rogerab's ceramic insert for the springs on my Wifes' ignis. I have seen some improvements in ride quality, reduced body roll but not sure about its long term impact. Will keep this group posted.

Re: Maruti Ignis : Official Review

Has Anyone got sill-plate protector (metal/ABS plastic) - something that can fit on the sill while not intruding with the plastic that is on the door frame (bottom-side). Problem is that the plastic piece that is part of the door frame has a curved long edge, and none of the sill protectors are narrow enough to sit on the sill without fouling the part I mentioned.

I found a set on Boodmo:

https://boodmo.com/catalog/part-side_beeding-56860510/

This beading is said to help protect the bottom edge of the door if it hits against, say, the foot-path. In such a situation, the beading can get scratched - and hence prefer a black one. A black-wrapped silver/chrome will not be as good as this one.

Re: Maruti Ignis : Official Review

Hello,

I would appreciate suggestions from the members.

I'm looking for a second car that will be primarily used within city limits. Our primary car is a Seltos 2023 GTX+ Diesel AT. I wanted to buy an S Presso, but today, we went to Nexa to check for discounts on the Ignis.

A 2023 Ignis Alpha White (my preferred colour) Manual Petrol model is in the showroom. The final price has been quoted at ₹ 7.9lacs, including 3-year extended, full matting, and window shades (I was particular about these accessories). There is no story behind why the car has been in the showroom for so long other than the mandatory stock that the dealer has to lift from MSIL monthly.

I will do a thorough PDI or hire Zekardo to do the PDI, and then I will proceed.

If everything goes well, do you think I should proceed, or is there room for more discount?

Thanks

Are you comfortable with a manual for a car which is going to be used primarily in the city? Otherwise the Ignis is a very nice little car and a good choice.

Don’t know the full prices in your town hence not commenting on price.

I live in a Tier 3 city. Bumper-to-bumper traffic hardly exists.

Re: Maruti Ignis : Official Review

Looks good - go for it. Try to grab accessories, such as seat cover, steering wheel cover, neck rest, floor mat, etc. FOC. Insurance, even after 8k discount, is expensive. My Alpha AMT costed ~24k, fully loaded. Finally, make sure that the 2023 model is an updated one with Hill Hold, ESP, E20 and RDE.

Re: Maruti Ignis : Official Review

I am planning to replace my 18 yr old 1st gen Swift LXi. Need a small, compact, fuel efficient car for city usage only (50 kms a day). I have Hexa for highway usage. Checking out S-Presso AGS, Wagon R 1.2 AGS and Ignis AGS.

Came across multiple you tube videos claiming that Ignis is getting discontinued and Nexa showrooms are not getting inventory.

Was open for Punch AMT as well also since my experience with Hexa has been very good. However my choice was Atomic Orange colour which has been discontinued now.

Request all to chip in with their suggestions pls.
