Congratulations

Don't want to spoil the party, hence will say you can't go wrong with either of them. While you get some and loose some in either of them, peace of mind is one thing which keeps Toyota ahead of its competition.

All the best
Thank you gkveda & roby_dk for your good wishes!

It has been a year and 12000 kms with the Fortuner now, and the car has performed in line with the expectations.

The service cost for the 1st & 2nd service was '0' and for the 3rd service it was Rs 2508 all inclusive. The experience at 36 Toyota has been satisfactory overall.

The fuel economy figures: I am a sedate driver & the Eco mode has been my favorite even on the highways. Tyre pressure: 28 psi all around.

-City: consistently get around 10 Kmpl in the summers and around 11 in the winters.
-Highway: between 13-15 Kmpl depending on the conditions, the best I remember was 16.xx on a Delhi-Chandigarh trip last winters & the worst 12.5 Kmpl on a recent Delhi-Rishikesh trip

Issues to report: 2

-One of the horns developed a cold from the rains, got it adjusted during the 3rd service

-Had to get the alignment (camber specifically) adjusted during the 3rd service as I noticed a slight inner wear on the front right tire.

Will let the photos do the talking now, will add night shots where available, kindly excuse the poor picture quality as these were randomly shot with my phone.

The looks- front, side & rear: these were taken at the ASC before washing. And adding some interior shots available with me right now.

I am using the same model (CAREUD) since past 2 years. They are really good although the pressure measurement accuracy is + or - 1-2 PSI when compared to Good year Tyre Inflator measurement.

This is fine as long as it is consistent in my opinion.

Also, sometimes, when the car passes over bad surfaces, one of the Tire pressure displays (Ex: Right Rear) starts blinking for some time (My guess is, it keeps struggling to get the signal for some time) and get automatically rectified by itself. So, you do not need to worry too much on that front as well.

The LED lights of fortuner is inadequate and a nightmare to drive in opposite lights in two lane road highways. Also it is useless when it rains as the roads get black visual range is further shrinked. I own a fortuner and i have driven it 60,000 kms and after complaining about inadequate lighting several times no proper solution has been provided. The reply is the lighting is as per ARAI norms but i own previous generation corolla and Innova, Innova Crysta which has adequate lighting. Even at 55,000 kms i complained about inadequate lighting and they did some focussing but that didnt do justice, recently my vehicle met with an accident due to inadequate lighting as the barricade was not visible. Now i left my vehicle with the dealer and am waiting for a reply from Toyota to my concerns. Many of them have lodged complaint regarding lights but its fragmented and people are adding lightforce or hella as additional lights and managing.

Please drive fortuner at night and then decide

Also it becomes hopeless while driving in pitch dark in ghat roads and while offroading the light is a pain.

Toyota in policy never provides discounts rather when the demand reduces they slow down there production line or else they launch a facelift model with added features for the same or little increase in price

Hi,

It has been more than a year since I got the car home & have done a few trips on the highways. On a recent trip, I had to switch to high beam + fogs to improve the visibility as it was raining but generally I find the low beam + fog lamps combo to be sufficient, the throw & intensity both seem to be adequate and this issue has never come up while discussing the car (specially the shortcomings) with other owners.

Is it the the color temperature that makes it inadequate for you?

I hope you find a permanent fix for this problem.

Today CRM from Toyota Kirloskar, Bangalore visited our place in my car which was with the dealer. They have taken the car to certain areas where i proved of inadequate lighting previously and came to my office. The CRM was in no mood to accept the inadequate light in opposite traffic. I asked him to drive and he said he wasn't supposed to drive and i told him, then his visit has no purpose. He was just keeping on saying the lighting was good. The dealership has adjusted the focus which was improved, but in opposite light it was the same and i took my 2011 innova and asked the CRM to sit beside and prove the lighting in opposite traffic was better but he failed to acknowledge saying all cars have the same difficulties. I replied when u drive u can feel the difference.

Toyota is a reliable vehicle for sure but in case of any problem the way they address the customers is just pathetic. I am complaining of driving difficulties due to inadequate lights and the person who came to address this issue refuses to drive but concludes and tries to convince us of adequate lighting and how do we expect him to understand what is the real problem

Toyota for sure wouldn't have become the world leader without addressing the customer concerns, but their stand on Indian consumers is quite surprising. Myself have a list of 20 Fortuner owners complaining of inadequate lighting in our area, hope they will solve this issue amicably.

Hi,

I think the 1st statement of yours holds true for the entire (Indian) industry- We are still taken for granted when it comes to after sales service & support and Toyota is not an exception.
Driving a customer's car that too in less than ideal conditions, I feel the CRM made the right call here as Toyota would have been held responsible in case of any mishap.

This actually might be a very tricky situation for the manufacturer as well, as this in not a generic issue they might not have a solution/SOPs in place for such complaints.
Why don't you ask Toyota to replace your Led headlamps with the halogen headlamps which are used as standard in some variants abroad, TKM can easily source them from Thailand & replacing them should be a fairly easy job given their same size & dimensions. I think this is definitely worth a try.

I think being a Toyota employee, he may not have an authorisation and if something goes wrong, it will be a big problem even if you were in the passenger seat.

I don't want to sound bad but have you got your eyes checked? From my own experience, I can no longer see as clearly as I used to 15 Years ago. If you say that you have no issues with 2011 Innova which must be on regular halogens but have troubles on the new Fortuner, Is it possible that your Eyes are having something specific related to a particular type of light? Did you try to discuss such a thing with an Eye specialist? Or did you drove some other Fortuner or similar vehicle where it was all ok?

I agree on how they respond, but believe me it's same everywhere, I mentioned here in another thread, Gearbox of my brother's 2-Year-old Highlander in Canada went bad and they changed with a refurbished one and the dealer returned back the car without even a wash or cleaning after many days. At least, in India, Dealers are still better.

But, coming to your concerns regarding inadequate lighting, I am afraid I don't find this issue nor any other owners here unless I am missing. So, best will be to get some additional lights or try changing to halogens from overseas models if that's an option.

I have yet to see a manufacturer agree to his fault and make changes based on customer feedback. All these CRM guys are really eyewash just for the sake of it. It's only when things go legal that they move. Remember the famous Toyota Camry accelerating issue. It took no less than the life of a US highway patrol officer to get things moving and for Toyota to accept it. It's no different for other manufacturers too.

Re: Toyota Fortuner : Official Review

Going through all the Fortuner threads on Team-BHP and some reviews on YouTube, it's quite clear that multiple people are not too happy with the lighting offered by the current generation Forruner - especially the ones who either own or have extensively driven the previous generation (facelift version) car as well.
Attaching an owner review of both the cars where he clearly says that the lighting of the current generation Fortuner is below par when compared to the previous car.

Regarding driving a customer car with his permission is not going to be a problem as the person driving the car will obviously be extra cautious and the car is fully insured with their Toyota's own Insurance company under Bumper to bumper warranty. Also the lighting vision differs with the driver and a passenger as the angle of opposite light source differs.

Regarding replacement of LED lights with Halogen lights cannot be done by Toyota as it is against the approval of a vehicle by the RTO. And as far as i know this model comes with LED from base version

Sir I am 44 and an avid birder who can spot tiny birds sharply and i am driving an E-class Merc with LED lights, Innova crysta, Skoda Superb, Volkswagen Polo and previous generation innova are the cars which i drive regularly for which i don't face any problems in the night so i think my eye sight is okay.

Sir true the problem in India is the consumers fight for trivial things and sometimes move on for some important issues, for example if the lights are inadequate they fix an extra light or change the bulb and move on as the ARAI norms or whatsoever is not designed to the safety aspects of passengers. Recently cops started targeting Helmets of Superbike riders as they were imported and were not approved by ISI.

It's true sir, i had a concern and i am an industrial Engineer who did master's in Detroit and have admired the Toyota manufacturing systems (kanban) and the way they mastered the quality levels but when they wanted to give trouble free car i don't understand their stand in terms of customer complaints which they try not to face directly instead opting to talk through the dealers.

Re: Toyota Fortuner : Official Review

Remote stopped working after 18 months.

I was at Badrinath on 20th Oct. when in morning the remote stopped working. I opened the door with manual key but failed to start the vehicle. Fortunately, i carried the spare remote as well which posed no issue. After returning, i checked the voltage of the battery which showed 2.7 volt instead od 3 volt.

Any inputs on changing the yellow fog lamp bulbs to the white ones.
OEM ones are highly inadequate. Not going HID route for the fogs.
Thanks in advance.

Yellow fog lamps will be effective in the currently smoggy winters up north. Ali Express has multiple options for these depending on the amount of money you intend to spend and I would recommend you do a swap, at least for winters.
