Friends

Just trying to think differently on the ATF cooler issue. It appears that this gear box has seen many applications across many cars in the past across the world. Is there a way we could use the trans oil cooler of a diesel car where 6L 50 MYB has been used and assess fitment for the hexa? The model hexa needs come with 4 ports - 2 for the oil to enter and exit and the other 2 for coolant. Just thinking loud. I'm from Bangalore and has anyone done this?

I have been thinking to add an external tube type oil cooler (looks similar to AC condenser), eliminating the water cooled type. Challenge is to find someone who manufactures these kind of coolers. For now I'm thinking to add a oil cooler available on the bikes to see if it makes any difference in the temperature.

Just calling out loud, I think the new Tata Safari / Harrier auto which has an Hyundai gearbox doesn't have this type of AT Cooler. The Tata mechanic was telling this during my last service. If this is true then would want to know more, has anyone explored this?
Overall I think a number of Hexa(s) are waiting for this AT Cooler.

Add me in line waiting for the ATF cooler, although there is nothing wrong with my Hexa AT ( 1L km done ) regularly serviced at TASS, TASS does not want to risk touching the AT gearbox, My SA says don't touch it as it works fine, but I know better.

Since my HEXA sees a lot of only highway running per year, myself and my extended family regularly use the HEXA for road trips ( I have the Tiago EV for local )
2022-2023 -20k kms
2023-now 15k kms

I plan to keep the HEXA for atleast another 5 years or until 2L km I am now desperate to get the ATF replaced with the AT cooler change.

Any recommendations for a reliable TASS or FNG in Bangalore to get the ATF cooler and ATF fluid changed?

I understand there are other components like ATF gasket, filter, ATF cooler hoses etc., that also need to be changed!

AT coolers are back in stock and TAMO can get them delivered in 5days. The supplier has resumed producing the parts. :Cheering: I got mine yesterday and will be getting the stuff changed by SEHMBI AT specialists Bangalore ( Ps Tata send ATs to be repaired to them )

I really appreciate Tata motors who has paid attention to our complaints.

Those who need it get them ordered ASAP from your dealership. God knows how long and how many units are produced ;)

As of now in Bangalore Adishakti Kalyan Nagar branch has 1 and MD motors gunjur has 2 in stock

DM me for the service manager contact details

See if your TASS is willing to do it. Most are not. I am getting mine done by SEHMBI ( please see earlier post )

Regarding the cooler hoses and gaskets. They need not be changed unless there are leaks. The main components to be changed are the ATF, AT cooler, AT oil filter.

Hi fellow bhpians,

I am in need of some advice from fellow bhpians.

I currently own a Honda City (2021) CVT with approximately 20,000 kilometers on the odometer. In 2022, we acquired an automatic KWID for my spouse, primarily using it as our weekend city vehicle, even accommodating six individuals (four adults and two children).

Since obtaining the KWID, we've shifted the Honda City's usage to predominantly highway trips. However, as my children are growing, I've realized it's not ideal for short outings anymore. Consequently, I'm considering replacing the City with a "proper" 7-seater within a reasonable budget.

I came across a 2018 registered, 2017 manufactured XMA in Bangalore and did a TD twice yesterday. The vehicle has 35k in ODO with service history available. I found it luxurious compared to the city with the real estate it gives the quality inside, the driving position, audio and engine. I have requested for service history from one of the managers in Key Motors, Kanakpura Road. He was enthusiastic about the vehicle too and mentioned that Hexa’s will come for service to their place only and was all in for the vehicle. Since there are Hexa specific engineers he also mentioned that most of the Hexa’s in Bangalore to their Service station.

The asking price is around 11.5L which I feel is reasonable.

While TD I found that the rear AC had a hizz sound when it was not fully open and I observed it in both vents near the door, is this common?

I also had checked for rusting issues and have not found any. Once I get the service history will be able to close the deal as I find it very difficult to get a good 7 seater in this budget.

Will plan to get the vehicle checked once by a mechanic in keys motor too. Should I consider any other checks.

Thanks
Vasanth

They claim TATA even sends ATs to be repaired there. Seen multiple Hexas being AT repaired

Hello all,

I liked the 2018 XMA which I did a TD last week. Service history looks good. So going with it. :Cheering:

Will check if the ATF cooler needs to be replaced and shall do it accordingly. :thumbs up

The city was sold to cars24 and looking forward to getting this delivered soon. Was difficult to let her go :crying, enjoyed the comfort it gave a lot.

Happy to be part of the Tata Hexa Family :)

Regards
Vasanth

I checked both under-body and the coolant tank and found no leaks or discoloration.

Coolant Tank is clear blue. I hope this is what we expect it to look like if there are no leaks. Please advice.

I am in a dilemma to either change it or not. I am planning to take the delivery of the pre-loved XMA in a weeks time.

The TASS guys are not aware of this yet. Meanwhile I found the Trans Water Cooler available in boodmo. Has anyone tried it? Or should we go with TASS to order it?

I have a Hexa 2018 model and the Hiss sound is normal, it's because of weird design of the vent, nothing else.

UPDATE - ATF and AT cooler change

So I got the ATF, AT cooler and AT Oil Filter changed at SEHMBI AT specialist - https://sehmbi.in/

Over all a uneventful experience and highly recommended if you want to get this work done outside TASS. TASS even sends Hexa AT repairs to SEHMBI. I have personally seen the chat messages and vehicles being repaired.

Points to note

1. My car has currently done 99K kms in 7 years ( Dec 2017 early batches ) , I picked it up used in October 2022 from my ex Boss @ 57K kms, so that is roughly 40k kms in 2years. My extended family and I use this vehicle exclusively for Highways.

2. The ATF was never changed, hence my research suggested to go ahead with a Pan drop fluid change rather than a flush - if your ATF was never changed every 50k kms DO NOT do a flush - Rather go for a Pan drop.
Pan drop replaces roughly 60% of the fluid or 7 litres, as opposed to 11 litres in a full flush.

3. I avoided TASS as my TASS wanted "Me" to own up if a perfectly working transmission gets messed up with the ATF change. As per the TASS the gearbox is sealed for life and they are performing an outside standard service work which they don’t want to be responsible for.

4. My research led me to SEHMBI, they have good reviews in TBHP and my interaction with the owner - Harmeet was very good, the lead technician Yash was also very knowledgeable.

5. Be careful what grade of oil you use. The HEXA needs Dexron 6 ONLY, some FNGs will say DCT oil is good enough but do not do that.

6. Replace the Oil filter and Gasket.

7. clean the breather pipes.

8. Most importantly this was a proactive replacement there was nothing wrong with my AT but decided to do this for peace of mind, there were two other Hexa’s at SEHMBI for gearbox repair and the cost to fix them was 1.85L and 2.3L respectively.

9. Pro tip, buy the oil from Amazon, you will get the best price, while SEHMBI price matched the oil rate from Amazon, I had to pay GST for the whole bill. Had I got the oil from Amazon would have saved a bit more.

Total breakup of the expenses

Price
AT cooler sourced from TATA Motors- 15928

SEHMBI’s work
Mannol ATF Dexron 6 - 1350/liter - 9450
ATF oil filter- 3000
Coolant 2 liters- 1000
Gasket- 500
Labor- 5000
GST- 3230

Total 37109/-

Yeah the coolant looks good, mine too was the same, even at 99k , but the ATF oil was so black, glad I changed it, you never know when it will go wrong, so ball park is 5/6 years or every 50k kms change the ATF and every 1L km change the AT cooler
