I had several expriance like this in the since 2009 onward with my Indica Vista. That's one of the reasons for upgrading to ARIA

Mods, based on positive feedback (more than a few) from initial owners on 'after sales' , it would be fair to add a line to reflect the same. Me thinks.

After reading series (not restricted to one dealership/region) of posts regarding prompt and at sometimes beyond call of duty kind of action, its seems that TATA has put together an ASS organization that is finally delivering something. If this cannot be construed as overall improvement, at least a line to state "HEXA's initial ASS experience has been prompt & pleasant" would be fair.

Exactly! Well thought and i would like to urge the mods to do the same as explained! Almost every Hexa owner is impressed with the quality of service offered irrespective of the kind of issue faced. It's not fair to say hit or miss considering their response!

While that is wonderful to hear, and a sign of progress, sales and service related perceptions (rooted in facts!) take a while to change. Consistency is probably the hardest part of the puzzle.
The best thing for Tata is to get these positive experiences out in the open via forums like ours, as well as word of mouth on the street, and pretty soon that line in the official reviews would change to reflect Tata's maturity as a car maker.
For now, I personally think it is fair to give a heads-up to the casual/first time car buyers who peruse our forums.

Given that most of the buyers seem to choose XTA at that price point, how good is the Borg Warner AWD?

The BW transfer case has been a long time standard fitment in the XUV, Hexa, Scorpio & Safari and is a robust unit which seldom breaks down or runs erratically. In the Hexa & the XUV it is a TOD (Torque On Demand) unit which splits the torque between the front and rear axles depending various factors.

Guys, we are planning to buy the Hexa A/T next month.

Since I am settled here in Dubai, I have not seen or experienced the car yet. But my brother and mom (who will eventually be using this car) have taken a test drive and they love it.

I have quite a few apprehensions regarding Tata's quality and initial niggles and A.S.S. experience, but we have next to no options in this segment and budget. Our budget is 18 Lacs and Innova A/T is out of question. Family did not like the Creta and we are not considering the Duster/Terrano. We already have the XUV and hence that too is not an option.

So that leaves us only with the HEXA as a choice.

My main concerns are -
Some of the comments from our fellow BHPians regarding the good after sales support from TATA seems encouraging.

Postponing the purchase is sadly not an option.

My main concerns are -
  • Any major reliability issues - I can deal with small niggles but the car should not break down in the middle of nowhere with my family!
  • My brother is concerned about the poor resale value.
  • Most reviews say that A/T is better than the manual, which is good since we are looking for an Automatic. But since the A/T is unproven in the market, what about the long term reliability of this thing?

Hexa XTA is a good option in this segment. Quality of interior is top notch. Ride and handling is best in the segment. I have completed 4500 Kms. No issues. Captain seats are highly appreciated by my parents.

Took test drive of 3 SUV's back to back.

Innova Automatic
XUV Automatic
Hexa Auto.

Initial view was a big surprise as it was the Hexa which was the more grounded of all.
Before the TD's we had partially made our mind and were going to book XUV W8 auto. But Hexa changed the complete equation. The ride as less wobbly then the XUV and almost at par with the Innova.

The ass seems to be a area about which i showed my concern to the sales guy. He told me that post 2014 any car being manufactured/serviced has accountability set from the production staff to the dealer and service center. He also assured me that he will introduce me to the servicing guys before i decide to buy the hexa.

Yet to decide.

So I was in the mall yesterday and having come out of a movie, I had time to kill and saw a display Hexa there and immediately went to check it out. This was the first time that I have seen it up close, having planned many times before this to have a look at it.

To my joy there was also a test drive available and immediately signed up for it. The variant available was XT 4x2 6 seater.

Few takeaways from the test drive and comparisons with my 5 year 1.35 lakh km old Aria :

1. The ride quality is, in one word, AMAZING! I had read and seen reviews about it, but experiencing it first hand was a completely different thing altogether. The improvement in this car over the previous one is simply sensational. The Aria was not bad and I considered its ride to be very good as well, but Hexa takes it a atleast a couple of segments upwards

2. The manual gearshift was a little notchy, but got used to it quite quickly. The clutch, although light, had a quite high engagement point and had to be careful while releasing to avoid jerks. When the first time I tried shifting from 4th to the 5th, I went for a wide shift as is generally the case, but the executive corrected me to go for a closer shift. Did not face any issues after that.

3. The Harman sound system is incredible, also worth nothing that the doors and panels did not vibrate at higher volume levels. So that is a plus point too.

4. Cruise control also worked really well and the acceleration to the set speed after braking was thoroughly enjoyable.

Also a big thumbs up to the TATA motors team that was present there. Very courteous , eager and enthusiastic. I specifically told them that I do not plan to buy it at the moment and even more so , since I am in a different city for work, so vehicle purchase in that city won't be possible.
Even then they showed the same enthusiasm as they would to an immediate prospective customer.

My enthusiasm after the test drive was also very high, whereby just after the test drive finished, I called my dad and told him that when we choose to replace the Aria, which will be soon, it should be with the Hexa.

I think there can be no bigger compliment for Tata motors.

Hello,
Went for a test drive of Hexa on last Saturday with my wife and younger brother with full enthusiasm but our experience was not so good with Tata Autovikas Dwarka dealer. :Frustrati

I filled my details on Tata Hexa website and got a call withing 2 minutes inquiring about my details and place where I want to have test drive. I got a call from Autovikas advisor and he inquired about which model I am looking for and told me I can call him and have a test drive anyday. We left from home after lunch and I tried calling advisor but he told he is on sick leave that day and told me he will be calling other person in charge. I never have been to Autovikas earlier and purcahsed my Safari from Concorde motors. We arrived at the showroom and it was very unpleasant to see that it was much smaller than a grocery shop. My wife and brother were not ready to step out of car and they insisted to try a different dealer. I somehow convinced them to check out/test drive the car and we can try again with different dealer later. So we were inside the showroom which had total space for hardly 2-3 cars. One was occupied by Hexa and other was Tiago. Apart from that as far as I remember there was no other car in display.

It was Hexa XT variant in silver colour shining brilliantly and somehow we had a smile on our face. Next turn off was the test drive car was not available at that moment and the staff was not sure when the driver will be coming back. In the mean time we tried to check the the XT variant and found Hexa to be exceptionally good as mentioned by all members in our forum. It was a 6 seater configuration and we explored all rows one by one. The 1st and 2nd row is definitely the best but I didn't found 3rd row as what I expected. I was not able to slide my leg below 2nd row seat and the only option was to keep it over the center tunnel i.e between 2nd row captain seats. I am slightly above 5'11" and ingress or egress was not a problem for me but my wife being 5'3" complaint about the missing side footstep which we have in Safari.

Next I checked for the most hot and heated topic the 3rd row slope. I was not able to locate the strap to pull down for folding the seats. I missed one important thing we were checking the car our self and no one bothered to escort us in this process. I went to the service desk which was hardly 5-6 steps away considering the size of showroom and asked if someone could help us. One advisor came and tried pulling the tiny strap and trust me even he was able to do it after 3-4 tries. In the mean time again we were looking at each other faces while he murmur this is a flaw from Tata and they could have provided a better mechanism here. Even we tried that and somehow was able to do it after several retries. Now coming to the elevated angle it is surely the biggest design flaw for us. I kept quite and didn't uttered a single word as I already knew the seat doesn't fold flat. My wife and my brother were trying to push it further and asked advisor that it has not closed properly. To that he replied it is designed like that only to give maximum comfort in last row. Now again they were looking at my face as if I am the designer. lol: For us it is definitely a design flaw others can keep on defending but I am not happy with it. I will be using 3rd row once in a year else it will be folded permanently.

So we spent almost 30-40 minutes checked car thoroughly and inquired again about the XTA test drive. The service desk staff was too much confused as if I was asking them test drive of Innova in Tata showroom. Finally I left from there without wasting much time and left my contact details with them as they told they will be sending the car to my home for test drive. I am still waiting for any call or update from Autovikas.

Next Action Points:
Will be visiting to Concorde motors for test drive soon as I still trust and have faith in Tata being a Tata fanboy. I hope it was a bad day with a poor dealer so just want to forget it.
Will be test driving Ford Endeavour trend 2.2 AT and compare the drive and features we miss out vs Hexa XTA.

Conclusion:
I personally like the side and rear looks of the Hexa but from front it still looks like Aria with the sloping bonnet. I am glad that the interiors were good and things were well sorted out. Didn't tested any other feature especially the ride quality and dynamics so can't comment on them yet. Somehow my wife got convinced that if Endeavour is really better than Hexa then we will definitely stretch for Trend 2.2 AT. She told buying Hexa after Safari is not an upgrade we will just end up with a better and value for money car. Hexa defintely lacks the road presence and feeling we are used to after Safari.

It has been mentioned by someone earlier, if you remove the Headrests, the seat will fold flat.
If you don't use the 3rd row pretty often, you could remove the headrest and fold flat. :thumbs up

Hello Dear,
I think you are not following this post delibrately and hence missed out that one of our member already posted pics with head rest removed from one of the 3rd row seat. The slope is nearly equal in both cases. :)

That's not true. Third row does not fold flat whatever you try to do its a design flaw from TATA. I have even tried it on test drive vehicle and removed the head rest.

If you could read the post you quoted again, that is exactly what even he is trying to say. That the third row doesn't fold flat irrespective of presence/absence of head rests.
