Re: Tata Safari Storme Varicor 400 : Official Review

A rat got/gets into my engine bay and has found a liking for the water reservoir cap (the attaching piece had long since broken off).

The TASS guys have attached a makeshift cap from the inner indicator bulb housing. Pretty secure. When they told me the cap was not available separate and I would need to buy the 3000+ buck tank I naturally freaked out.

Look what I found (actually a friend did) ....

Thanks @arpandiv

I had tried to fix this in one of the refresh Storme (LX) there was no cut in the sheet metal behind the roof line. Please check if there is an cut / hole in the metal frame so that it can be installed.

Wiring can be taken from the middle row lamp..

Thanks Varun! I will poke needle and see if there’s a hole.
Seriously what did TML save by omitting a roof lamp

I also need this lamp.
Can the same lamp as the middle row one, be installed at the back or that's a different SKU?

Another 2 things that I need since years, with no luck are:
1. A grab handle on the A-pillar (similar to the one at the rear/boot space - will be helpful since the elephant is tall. My asking my SA has yielded only No and Not possible sir.
2. A nice backlit dash clock + compass + temp gauge. Zero luck so far.

We Safari drivers are so simple, asking for such simple stuff when our other brand friends are already using touchscreens, cruise controls, even climate control etc. since ages. (read this line as dated in 2018)

Arvind - worst case is to fabricate a box, mount the lamp into it and then fix this box to the same position. Not a clean setting it will be, but cant think of anything else. A thin sheet of ply wrapped in same color carpet fabric may be required if you use this approach.

Also - Varun mentioned that the bezel is part of the lamp unit and not available separately. You would need to order it from boodmo and check.

It is different. The middle row light also includes controls for the roof mount blower.

The front one can be used though. Even though it has the extra left and right press buttons for the reading lamps.

Speaking of Boodmo and the Safari driver's desperation for child parts, this is the latest casualty of the hamhandedness of some mech at the TASS this time ...

Boodmo shows only the entire assembly costing 1700 bucks.

Can someone please help with procuring a spare cap for this brake fluid reservoir ?

Cheers, Doc

Surprisingly, or maybe not so surprisingly , my reservoir cap is also broken lol.

Does anyone else also have a non functioning AC temp knob??
Mine doesn't change the temp at all. It's always too cold and uncomfortable.

And the car always stinks while passing tank bund, even when it's in recirculation

There is a small flap thingy that is staying open and letting air in ... this can be adjusted by the TASS guys. I remember something similar in a friend's Dicor (not Storme).

Coming back to the cap, if the cap is broken for you and Condor, is there not a risk of contamination of the fluid? Or simply it picking up moisture (hygroscopic) and the braking suffering?

Or have you guys taped it up somehow or quikfixed it or covered it with a plastic and rubberband?

Cheers, Doc

Like avinash previously mentioned on the thread, it works if I go to heater and bring it back to the desired temperature. But not when I change within the cold zone only.
Reminds me of those old telephones, all the way back for each digit.

The flap is definitely opening and closing because there is quite a perceivable difference in blower noise and air pressure when it is toggled. Perhaps it's not sealing completely shut.

I believe the cap that broke in mine and Condor's safari is the windshield washer reservoir's and luckily not the brake fluid reservoir. Although I don't check the caps regularly, I wouldn't drive with a broken brake reservoir cap.

Also guys, when I'm braking, I hear a noise from the passenger footwell area, it's almost like pink noise, or like muddy water with little stones running through a plastic pipe. Any clue what this could be?

I wish I could describe the sound better.

Safari Storme Varicor 400 - Fuel efficiency update

The truck has become my daily driver and I have been using it since the start of this month. The following is the fuel consumption data of the last 8 days, over 900 km usage.

Tata Safari Storme Varicor 400 : Official Review-screenshot_202102091545562.png

Absolutely consistent 13.5 kmpl overall fuel efficiency with 60:40 - City& Rural : Highways

Even Tata's ARAI rating is 13.9 kmpl only, pretty nice it delivers almost 100% of ARAI claim.

Only other car of mine that has given 100% ARAI claim as actual tankful efficiency is my Celerio (22 kmpl). Even my ultra frugal ciaz couldn't match the ARAI rating, which was unbelievable 27.xx kmpl while the best tankful I have got was 25.4 kmpl.

Meanwhile, what the heck is with the fuel prices!! Damn!!

Brake fluid reservoir. The Windhield washer reservoir is near the battery.

Could you share what temporary jugaad you have done please?

I'm worried about contamination (dirt, water) more than just spillage.

Cheers, Doc
