Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

Hi everyone, I need a help in buying a s-cross 1.6 and I'm in a bit confusion. The car I've seen is in good condition overall, it's 25000 kms run in 3 years. No black smoke from exhaust and no blow-by from the dip stick is visible. But there some fumes coming as the engine oil cap is opened. Is it normal? Earlier I was driving VW Vento 1.6 TDI and in that car it was considered normal. I sold it after driving 160000 Kms approx. Please share your opinion and experience on this. It would be great if any existing owner can make a video of their own car and share here.

How is the tire upgrade with respect to the stock size. Overall Diameter increase is more than 3%. is this recommended? is it fouling when bottomed out?

How is the performance of this over long term. What size did you opt for?

My Scross 1.6 is currently running Primacy 3ST in 215/60 R16 size. Car needs new shoes and I am not sure whether to go for stock size 205/60 R16 or change to 205/65 R16 or continue with 215/60 R16. Mostly leaning towards stock as of now.

Mine is facelift 1.3 and the stock size is 215/60.
I have opted for Primary 4ST 205/65.
The overall increase in diameter is around 1%.
Compared to stock JK tyres 4ST are very silent able to hear only engine sound not the sound from tyres which used to be a lot with Old JKs.

I have covered only 300km so far with new tyres out of which 200km on highway.
Steering is slightly lighter.
I have to depress the break slightly harder.
On highway trip the car returned 24kmpl(What was displayed and on highways 21kmpl is the max I have seen in 31000km and this is the first time I saw 24kmpl ). Anyways it's too early to consider FE. I will update the milage part once I cover few highway trips.

I'm a stock lover, so I always go for stock size. I could not associate the word performance with normal usage on road; if it were track, yes, it has a different parameter for measuring.

For road usage, it's miles ahead better than stock JK tire. Just one sentence - after switching to AE 50, I'm reminded of the day I took out the car right out of the showroom.

Stick with stock; if manufacturer has chosen a specific size, then there has to be a lot of engineering that has gone with it.

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

1,30,000 KMs Service Update:

- Got all oil and filters changed. Have moved to Mumbai and had to do a lot of running around to find a SC who allows/stock Mobil 1 0W40. Sai Service (Borivali East) arranged the oil for me.

- Got EGR done at extra cost since engine response felt a bit lethargic. Car is sparsely used in the city. EGR cleaning does take a lot of time! It was a long day at SC.

- Clutch and suspension still in good condition. SA told me to get the timing belt changed which costs a whopping 12,000/- inclusive of labor. I postponed it to next service.

- On inspection of the brake pads, mechanic called me to the service bay to show me the condition of the rear brake pads and discs. The dixcel pads were wearing out unevenly, they also damaged the discs. Had no option but to replace the pads and disc. Rear brake pads costed 6,000/- and both discs costed 3,200/- plus labor extra.

- Front right indicator was not working, wire was cut, got it replaced.

- Car was at the SC overnight as rear brake pads were not available at Sai. Sai did a good job, its a very big service center and they do not allow customers on the service floor. My car was serviced right next to the customer lounge on request. This was the first time in the ownership period I was not standing next to the car during service.

- Continentals are going strong at 40,000 KMs.

- Total bill was 24,000/-

- Car has clocked 1,500 KMs since service, did a quick trip to Ahmedabad. Overall FE was 19.6 KMPL.

I have been on Michelin Primacy 4 since March'19 (On a pre FL May'17 model) and 16k KMS. They have been holding up quite well (touches wood frantically) and am very satisfied. They are far superior to stock JKs.

Hi ike, what's the update on your issue? Was it rectified?

Nexa Porur fixed their lane tester and my car returned normal values. Probably was a faulty machine at MRF tyredrome? I do not know. But I haven't felt anything off with the car so I'm hoping the MRF machine was faulty.

My 50K KMS service is due. I'm planning to get this done from Porur Nexa this time. Will share the experience once I get it done.

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

Could anybody please help me with the bulb specifications for 2018 S Cross Zeta variant?
Both low beam in the projectors and the high beam in the reflectors?
My father has been using this car for a couple of years now, but the stock bulbs are woefully inadequate. Was contemplating upgrading to 4200k HIDs in the projectors and better quality halogens in the reflectors.

No please don't!! Go with 100/90 or 100/130 with ceramic holders. Nothing beats them.

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

Finished the 1,00,000 service. Notes:

1. EGR cleaning not done, as it was done at 90k.
2. The timing belt is OK, review to be done at 110k.
3. Front right fog was proactively changed as it had condensation
4. New set of keyfob and keys as I lost one.
5. Oil was Magantec 5w30 supplied by me from outside
6. Front brake pad change
7. Read brake pads needs changing, but not done, parts ordered
8. Rear parking sensor (one) replaced as it had conged off (Apparently this is a common failure it seems)
9. Cabin air filter change requested.
10. Stock clutch holding good.

For new key, I had to give a letter and 2k deposit, took about 2 weeks to arrive.

The bill -> Please add 2k (for key) and about 2k (for 3.5L 5w30)

Re: Maruti S-Cross : Official Review

Friends, I need your help.

Yesterday while driving the car on the highway a small bump came and I slowed down my car. When after the bump I pushed the accelerator the engine went off suddenly and in the fraction of a second again turned back to life. I know that the engine turned off because for that fraction the accelerator didn't work and lights on the instrument cluster turned on and then went off. Also, the cruise control turned off.

Can anyone explain what was this? Or was this due to a higher gear (3rd) on the hump? Even after crossing the hump the car speed was around 30 as the hump wasn't a big one.

Mine is 2018 March Zeta and has done 68,000 km till now!

Please check the battery terminals. The wires may be loose. Had faced same issue in my Wagon R. Everything had turned off and then started again. Connection was the problem.
