There are a lot of good cars that 13L can buy you today. From sub-4m crossovers like Sonet, Ecosport, Nexon, sedans like Ciaz and City, MUV Ertiga, hot hatchs like i20 and Polo GT and even a crude workhorse like Bolero. Is Ciaz worth a look among all these options? Well it depends. Some elaboration on your needs maybe helpful here.

I am looking for a sedan. Verna and City and way out of my budget.

Over the past 15 days I've review almost all cars available (top-end versions) within 13L and based on comments on this thread I believe Ciaz Hybrid S is suitable for my need.

Just that when I look at the dip in Ciaz's sales figure, I am in doubt whether to go for it or not ..

Thank you !! And I agree that there are too many options available .

My need is primarily for a sedan which is -
o very good for city as well as long trips on the highway (3k to 4k KMS)
o Low maintenance cost
o Good ride and handling

I am pretty confident that Ciaz fits my requirements but what puts me in doubt is the ever declining sales figure.

The Ciaz is easy to drive in the city, extremely fuel efficient (I have a 2017 1.3 Diesel Alpha Hybrid and average 21+km/l in combined city/highway driving).

I have done long trips to Bangalore and Pune in it and its a great cruiser on the highway and you don't feel tired after such a long journey due to the soft suspension. Its a Maruti so maintenance costs will be low, I never paid more than 5-6k a year at Nexa Service and not a single item every failed in 4.5 years. Interior space is another strong point and its a great car to be driven in.

One thing its not good at is handling, its definitely not as good as a Vento.
When considering other new cars I also considered Vento, Octavia base version and Rapid but they were very over priced for what they offered and have poor resale value and horrible after sales service.

After 24k Km(low driving in the last 1.5 years due to Covid) and nearly 4.5 years I am happy about my decision, car still looks almost like new.

The Ciaz S comes with side skirts which will lower the ground clearance (although I just checked in the brochure and its mentioned thats its unchanged but it could be an error). As the car is long and low there are chances of scrapping these on bad roads and steep ramps. I would advice to skip the S version, if want the trunk spoiler then you can order it separately from the dealer like I did. I don't think there is much difference from the Top End Alpha version in terms of equipment apart from the alloys.

A Close friend owns a Ciaz S in white, hence I can share a few points:

1. Compared to the Ciaz RS, the current Ciaz S misses out on front skirt. It comes only with side and rear skirts which barely add anything to reduce the Ground clearance. It's as good or bad as the regular Ciaz

Earlier people used to face nose scraping issues when front skirts were installed.

2. All black interiors look awesome, compared to the beige of the regular Ciaz

3. I wouldn't recommend getting regular ciaz and getting spoiler installed at Dealer's end. I've seen way too many cases of installation gone wrong(there is a thread on it too) and people facing problems immediately. Even I wish to install spoiler for my XL6 but am not getting it done since I know what happens in the long term. No one follows the SOP Maruti recommends, hence issues happen in the long run. Here's a Swift which narrates the horror once its spoiler was removed:

Hence if rear spoiler is a must for you, get the Ciaz S. Period. Here's another shade apart from White and Red in the Ciaz S:

4. The Black painted rims are a scratch magnet and cleaning disaster.

It's been like that since day 1. Smaller base=more perceived leg room at the rear. Cushion used is same whether it's normal Ciaz or S variant. Just the top trim color varies.

I agree that base is extremely small and results in almost no underthigh support for longer folks.

Lately, I am experiencing vibrations and judders every time when the car moves from stationary position in the first gear.

Is the clutch at play or are the engine mountings gone? How can I check?

Any fellow owner who has experienced this issue?

I had the same issue with my 2016 Ciaz ZXI+ RS. The Nexa workshop bleeded the clutch a couple of times but the issue returned after a couple of weeks. They finally changed the clutch plate (under goodwill warranty) and the issue disappeared.

A transporter either lost or broke my tow hook cap from the front bumper while transporting the car from Hyderabad to Gurgaon. How much does a new one cost and where can I get it?

I searched a bit and it seems it comes unpainted and I will have to get it painted to match the car.

Yes it comes unpainted. Part number : 71712M79M00-5PK. Price of unpainted trim is Rs. 80.
