Update:

TL;DR: I got the EPS Module "repaired" instead of replacing it

I finally got the time last week to get the issue resolved. I'm updating the post because I saved some money on it

So I initially went to the closest Hyundai service center near my place. They did their usual physical inspections first and then finally plugged into the OBD to check if they could find any probable causes for the same.

The following error flashed up: C1112 Sensor Source Voltage

I was immediately requested to get the EPS Module changed and was quoted around 8k for the job. I of course argued that the same issue had bothered me before and since it's not a component that is going kaput because of any physical abuse or human intervention, I would not like to pay the full price for it. There could also be a real possibility that the manufactured replacement itself is faulty/below par in terms of quality.

They finally suggested that I go to the service center where I had initially gotten the same replaced and ask for a discount there. I obliged and went to the other service center.

After undergoing the same inspections and checks again, the workshop suggested the same solution of getting the module replaced. I escalated the issue to the top brass sitting there and their final solution was that they would "repair" the module for a price of 2k.

2 hours later, lo and behold; everything is back to normal. I asked them about the repair and they didn't bother explaining it to me in much detail as to what was done. Only that they have repaired the "IC" in the module. Due to the paucity of time + the fact that I saved money on this, I also didn't go all guns blazing demanding a justifiable answer.

Note: Interesting observation on the bill. They did not write anything related to the steering wheel. The job was itemized as "repair work". When asked, they said they were not authorized to do such repairs and were supposed to replace the component directly. However, they have given me a warranty of 6 months and were courteous enough throughout the entire process.

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

Hello All!

I was running through a few pages of this thread and also tried searching for reviews of the Elite i20 CVT Automatic but couldn't find any.

I'm looking for a used car for my father in law and have come across a Jan 2019 model i20 Auto which has run only 29,000km and appears to be in good shape. I took a small test drive and the engine, gearbox and suspension appear to be in good shape.

The price quoted is 7.00 Lakhs and i'm wondering if the price is worth and if there is anything specific I have to look out for or rule out before going ahead with the purchase.

The car appears to have a service history with Hyundai dealer and doesn't have any major repairs.

Would be grateful if anyone who has had experience with the car could offer their inputs!

Thank You!

Cheers!

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

Hello BHPians,
My car is Elite i20 Asta Petrol Dec 2014 model. I have clocked 75K on the odo. Yesterday, AC stopped cooling on the scorching summer day. On initial inspection, I noticed a noise coming in from bonnet when AC is switched on but no cooling.

As I needed to travel later that day using the car, so I rushed to the closest local garage who on initial inspection told that there is issue with compressor and which might need replacement. Replacement cost: close to 30K for new compressor.

Anyone faced issue similar issue? Does faulty compressor create noise? What is usual cost of these kind fix at HASS/outside garage. Wanted to get expert opinions.

Thank you.

What kind of noise are we talking about here?
For this generation i20, I would say check AC gas first.

Noise maybe of fan-belt with something is stuck ('kar-kar' kind of). But not sure what exactly it is. I had given demo to the mechanic explaining how the noise starts as soon as AC is switched ON and stops with AC OFF. And that noise is audible inside the car as well even when AC fan is on lowest speed.

Initially, I had assumed the same, but the garage mechanic mentioned AC Gas pressure is ok, compressor has problem which made me worried.

Update:
Changed the compressor valve for 4.5K at local car AC repair shop. Cooling restored.
Hopefully, now problem won't re-surface.🤞
Mechanic mentioned Hyundai cars are most with this type of issue

Hyundai i20's and Verna's from that generation have had their fair share of problems when it comes to the HVAC unit. Most people who have faced similar issues had Automatic Climate Control in their cars rather than the manual AC. There also seems to be a lot of people who have a kar-kar kind of a sound when they toggle their AC units. Hyundai reps mostly say it's a standard problem and that they can't do much about it.

Welcome to the world of Juggad/Old car owner syndrome. Spare a thought for all the "Regular" Services you have been doing at the HASS for a inflated bill. If you have the patience and hunger to explore FNG (Friendly Neighborhood Garage) you will be adding ZERO's to the money you saved in this 1 bill.

All the best and start exploring ways to live with a old car and save money.

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

Dear Team-BHP Members,
I own a 2015 Hyundai i20 Elite Asta 1.2 petrol variant, and I've been facing an issue with the exhaust system. The exhaust has become excessively loud, which is quite annoying but the car has become quite sporty .
My car has run around 14000 kms and we barely use the car (1000-1200 kms a year) Given the minimal mileage on my car, I'm wondering if it would be possible to get the exhaust welded instead of replacing it entirely. Welding seems like a more cost-effective solution, but I'm unsure if it would be a viable long-term fix for the loud exhaust problem.
I would greatly appreciate your expert advice on this matter. Has anyone else faced a similar issue with their i20 Elite or other Hyundai models? If so, what approach did you take to resolve the problem – welding or replacement?
Also suggest some necessary steps to protect from further wear and tear.

Thank you in advance for your valuable insights and recommendations. Your guidance will help me make an informed decision and address this issue effectively.
Regards,
RM

I also faced a similar issue back in 2019 with my 2016 Elite i20, my car's exhaust pipe got hit by something and started making a loud noise, back then I got it fixed by an exhaust shop in Delhi.

They fixed the issue by replacing almost all of the exhaust pipe because the stock pipe was rusty and had many pinholes, now it's again started to make noise most probably because of the rust, as you said your yearly running isn't much so it doesn't make sense to spend around ₹5000 to replace the exhaust pipe so It's better to get it welded.

You can get the exhaust pipe coated with anti-rust spray specifically meant for exhaust pipes.

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

Hello All,
My 2015 i20 Elite has run 69K km till now. The clutch has become hard. The car was taken to HASS, the service advisor quoted 25K for the clutch assembly replacement and another 13K for the flywheel replacement depending on its condition. Are the prices quoted correct? Will it be a good idea to visit a FNG for the clutch replacement? Please advise.

My elite i20 petrol , Jan 2019 model completed 1.06 lacs kms on stock clutch this April. I got the clutch plate assembly replaced through my known local mechanic. INR 5300 for original clutch assembly and gear oil. Labour INR 1200. It's working perfectly fine since then. Also flywheel is replaced only if there are clear visible signs of damage. Company service center will almost always advise to replace it even if it's fine.
I also own 2012 igen i20, currently with my parents in my hometown. It's stock clutch was replaced at 90k kms at Capital Hyundai Noida , in 2016 .
It costed me around INR 17000 back then and it included flywheel replacement. Car has done 1.59 lacs kms and the clutch seems to be hard now .

So going by my experience , i would suggest a good FNG for clutch replacement and not Hyundai as prices are exorbitant like most manufacturers.

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

Any references for a tried and tested, reliable FNG in Bangalore to get the clutch overhauled on a 2016 Elite i20 CRDI?

The clutch plates on my car may need replacement soon, since there is a noticeable shudder in 1st and 2nd gear when releasing the clutch at low speeds, and with little throttle input. No other signs of wear and slippage at speed

The car has done 48500km, primarily in Bangalore traffic conditions

The service center had quoted around 40k for the work when they noticed the clutch was becoming harder

Thank you!

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

Dear BHPians,
Has anyone faced reduced auto dimming with IRVM?
What corrective action did you take then? Is it just an issue with sensor or IRVM needs replacement in this scenario?

Any input in this case would be much appreciated.

Thank you.
