My i20 is just a month old have Driven it for around 650 KM. I am getting FE somewhere around 9KMPL. I just hope that is normal and I would be able to get around 12KMPL after the 1st service.

Hi, I have a used car seat for sale. I would give it off for 1500 including shipping. Selling it off as my kid never settles in it
It is for kids upto 1.5 years alone. Rear facing one with seat belt fixation and carry coat. It is from first step brand

The FE could improve after your first service. My experience was that the car became a lot smoother after the first service. Until then it was reluctant to start and gallop.
I'm getting an average of 12.3 kmpl which i hope is the average in this forum.

Gents, without any warning or sign of failure my rear right power window switch has gone kaput. Pressing the switch gets the window down but the Up functionality has died completely. Have planned to take it to the ASS but could there be some loose contact issue? Has any one else faced this issue?

Faced the exact same issue on my old Baleno. The SA mentioned some spring inside has gone kaput for that single switch but you need to replace the whole unit. Cost estimate was 5k. Just left it as is.

Hi Rahul! Any update on the whistling sound?

Anyone facing steering rattling sound (like kat kat) coming from the steering column while going over rough roads?

My car (Asta) has done 37,000 in 1.5 years and recently have started noticing this sound. Let me know if anyone has faced this and got the steering column replaced under warranty/any other solution at the ASC.

I had faced a similar issue in my Vento earlier and had got the steering column replaced under warranty.

Thanks.

I recently faced an issue where the steering gave very high amount of feedback and made a grinding/slipping noise when trying to reverse. Just as if the motor gear was slipping from the shaft. Peculiarly, the headlamps also dimmed when rotating the steering. This happened once. Later that week the battery terminal pin had come off loose and the car refused to start.

Fixed it and never had any issues with the steering after that. I think that problem was attributed to the loose terminal wire. I think it's highly unlikely that we're facing the same issue, but I'd suggest you try and wiggle the wires and make aure they're fixed.

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

Since no service slot was available on the weekend for the next of couple of weeks, I asked my brother to give the car for 2nd service and I asked him to get the 3M underbody coating as well.

The service advisor had mentioned that the cost of second service would be close to INR 4,500 and did not provide the break up and my brother was not aware of the costs involved.

I managed to check the bill only after a couple of weeks (nearly a month) after taking delivery of the car, a big mistake. They had unnecessarily replaced the fuel filter and that increased the service bill by 100%. Fuel filter comes roughly to INR 2000. I wanted to visit the dealer before I escalate the issue but my schedule did not allow me to visit the dealer.

Finally last Tuesday got a call from the dealer regarding a free water wash and camp. Once I reached the showroom I met the service advisor, asked him the reason for changing the fuel filter at 10k km. He gave me the usual reasons of adulterated fuel and sediments mixing with fuel. The way and manner in which he conveyed it made me not to trust him.

I spoke to the service head. In the beginning, even the head was supporting the decision taken by his service advisor. I asked him if they had actually inspected and found water contamination before replacing and if that was the case then it is okay to replace the fuel filter. But the advisor, without inspecting, had mentioned in the job card that during 2nd service fuel filter will be replaced. The head agreed that it was a mistake and he offered wash plus wax polish.

The car put on the ramp and inspection was going on and at that time I saw that the area adjacent to the transmission tunnel did not have a coat of 3M. I immediately took it up with the head and he asked the 3M guys to rectify the issue. The 3M guys told me that the ramp’s beam blocked access and hence that area was not covered. Finally a good coat of 3M was applied.

My car has few scratches and I asked if something could be done about it. He was apologetic for the goof ups and readily agreed to fix it. I spent a couple of hours at the service station and the service head personally attended to me and supervised the entire work.

The service head asked 2 of his men to apply rubbing compound on minor scratches and sand the bigger ones. One guy was giving his best and the other did a shoddy job. The work done by the second guy had to be redone by a third one.

In one instance even after wiping the wax I was able to see swirl marks of wax and I took out the microfiber cloth from my car to help the first guy. The head however politely asked me to not to do it and another guy was pulled in to do that.

Finally all the minor scratches were fixed and touch up paint was applied on ones that were not fixable.

In the end I am quite happy with how things turned.

All you guys should invest time to see things are done properly and do not hesitate to go stand near the vehicle as the mechanics work on it. Yes, it may annoy a few but at end of day you are paying for that service and make sure that it is communicated.

In my case the higher ups were quiet helpful but his subordinates weren’t doing their job properly.

P.S. I have intentionally not mentioned the dealer’s name.

On a different note:

I have also been facing some problem with the AC.

I usually set the temperature to 24 degree. On my last trip (180km long) the AC stopped working and even the blower was running at the lowest possible speed despite me setting it to full speed. After a point of time there was mist kind of thing coming from the vents. I stopped and restarted the vehicle but to no vain.

After reaching home, I parked the vehicle for a couple of hours and then when I restarted the vehicle in the evening the AC was working fine. Any idea what would be the cause?

I was driving the car more frequently these days and did not observe it so much when I went for the service - so it could not be shown - waiting for it to come again so that I can show it to the SA.

How do you inspect the fuel filter for water contamination ? This is one component they change regularly (20k) and something I cant check the status of - and it does inflate the bill as it is no way cheap (2k with taxes). I get fuel filled only on the bunks I know would fill good quality diesel. They give back the old part - is there someway of telling if the fuel filter really needs the change.

On another note - went for 40k service and the guy was pushing for engine decarbonisation (quoting it is needed at every 20k and charging 1.8k without tax for the same). Upon asking he said that it mandatory to clean carbon deposit so they would use chemicals to clean the carbon. He convinced me while giving my car for service - upon coming back I read the related post on TeamBHP and decided to not get it done and gave him a call as the chemical needs to be added to the fuel itself which can be done by me at the cost of ~Rs450. So basically they charge around 1.6k for the manual labour of emptying the contents of the bottle into the fuel tank - major conn happening here I presume ! I use injector cleaners and fuel additives once in 10k so shouldn't have so much carbon deposits.

I think because of all these useless additions the service cost inflates so much - 15k (including synth oil purchased off Amazon) for a service every 10k and without any major work - just the regular items. Hyundai service is cheap no more - even for the hatchback segment.

I believe that there is a indicator in dash which gives us a warning if there is water in the fuel. There is also a water separator which collects the water before it reaches the filter. Mine was changed at only 10K and that is down right cheating.

You can also feel the difference in the way the car delivers the power if water is mixed in the fuel. It will be very sluggish and throttle inputs would not give you any immediate response.

I have seen that in some Toyota vehicles there is even a drain hole to drain the water from the filter. But in elite I believe it is a sealed one. If fuel is filled from a trust worthy station then these filters will last for 30k km or even more.

I had faced a similar issue during a long road trip in December/January. Just take your car to the service center and ask them to replace the Thermistor which has gone kaput. The symptoms were exactly the same in my case except for the mist that you've mentioned, and the thermistor (which records the temperature and regulates the air flow) was the reason behind this.

Would you be able to share the names of the injector cleaners and fuel additives?

Thanks!

I use STP for injector cleaners and Bardhal Diesel + Diesel Engine treatment for the decarbonisation. Purchase it off online and pour the contents in the fuel tank with 10+ L of diesel.

If you go through the car manual - you would find the one Hyundai recommends. If I recollect correctly, they recommend getting Bardhal.

Well, I have never seen any indicator glow on my indicator dash (very particular about the warning lights on the dash). So there is no way we can examine the status of fuel filter on our own ? - similar to how you can asses the condition of air filter (I any ways get it changed every 10k owing to the dusty environment I stay). Generally how is it ? Should fuel filters be still be replaced at 20k even if you do all your refuelling at Shell only - trying to get a feedback?
