I don't think Hyundai has changed anything in the suspension for the Asta variant to accommodate the bigger wheels but you can check with the Hyundai folks. Also, check with them if it would have any impact on the warranty.
Ride height for both versions is the same. The tyre profile is different for both cars.

I am able to make and receive calls, play music wirelessly, however, I am not able to scroll through the call log using any of the steering mounted controls, though I can see the call log when I am pressing the green button on the steering.

Is this feature phone specific, I am currently pairing a BlackBerry.

Am I missing something?

This is an issue even in the Xcent as well. You need to take your hand off the steering wheel and eyes off the road to scroll through contact lists- a defect with the design IMO.

Highlighted the same with a pic as well in my Xcent review here-

Just for the record- I was paired with an iPhone while testing this.

Re: Chief Competitors of the Hyundai Elite i20

The top variants (with the smart key) also have another feature. If you wish the lock/ unlock chirp to be silent for just a given occasion, place a finger on the smart sensor and press the lock/ unlock on the smart key fob, Voila!

(occasion as in say taking your car out early in the morning without disturbing the neighbors)

I understand that tubeless tires work best with alloys, so anyways I will have to replace the steel wheels, so was wondering whether to go for 16 or the same 14.

My apologies if this post does not belong here.

Agree with adimicra. The other concern that you might have with the upgrade in wheel and tyre profiles is your speedometer error. The speedo is normally calibrated with the tyre size. You will start to see errors in distance covered and also mileage figures. For example my friends old fiesta shows about a 10% less distance covered compared to stock by just upgrading the profile size to 185/65/14 from 175. So if he travels 300 Kms,his Odo shows 270 Kms.

WOW. The whole purpose of the feature gets defeated.

On other thoughts, may be with a small display where just 3 last dialled numbers visible at one time, its a disguised blessing, as to scroll through call log while driving, one will have to take eyes off the road.

Why wouldn't you just press the request sensor in this case?

It would lock/unlock the car quietly, and you wouldn't need to even take the smart key out of your pocket...

Did you do the calculation or just commented by looking at different tire profiles? I know very well the tire profiles are different.

So, when you dismiss someone's comment, it is better to explain why you think so.

Can you do the calculation and tell me how it is same?

This is the calculation I did -
185*0.7 = 129.5 mm = 12.95 cm
195*0.55 = 107.25 mm = 10.72 cm

Difference = 2.22 cm which is less than 1 "

But the difference in the size of the wheels is 2".

So,
total height for Sportz = 14" + 12.95/2.54 = 19" approx
total height for Asta = 16" + 10.72/2.54 = 20.2" approx

How's the height same?

I will be more than happy to know if I missed something.

Yeah, I forgot about the speedo error. In this case, there is a big difference in the tire and wheel sizes which will result in a big speedo error and hence the odo and tripmeter will be wrong as well. It needs recalibration.
Normally, if you upgrade just the tire without changing the diameter and within the recommended 3% limit, the speedo error is negligible. For example, I was considering an upgrade for my car from 175/65R15 to 195/50R15 which would have kept the ride height almost same and resulted in minor speedo error. Eventually, I did not because I felt the ride could get harsher and the Jazz already has a pretty stiff ride.

Hyundai is known to keep higher ride heights on their top end variants.

Even the Xcent SX(o) rides 10mm higher than the lower variants thanks to the 15 inch wheels. I guess same has been pointed out in the official review of Xcent as well.

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 : Official Review

With the impending Ciaz launch, the Elite hoopla has substantially come down.

Yet. I would say that the elite is a welcome relief in terms of design in comparison to the outgoing model.

I always thought about the ungainly bulge/pimple which was more evident from the side profile:

The Elite looks a lot better now.

True.

But then if I were standing say 20m away and wanted to open the door for someone else without waking up a light sleeper, then it makes sense doesn't it? (This is a real life scenario, which however is moot, coz the so called light sleeper will definitely wake up when the diesel version fires up )

Let me also add that this was the pep talk I got from the SR. Not a really interesting "feature" for me either. But does show that some thought has gone into the designs and that the sales personnel have been briefed - both positive signs which score in my book.

You're welcome! To be frank, I'm not an expert at all.

Actually one more question came to my mind. After your insight I tried to google out more information and found that there are many mini OBDII port scanners available in market which connects via bluetooth to android devices. Those are really helpful in keeping a tab of different technical / statistical aspects of the car and as well as for clearing up false alarms.
Yes, the mini OBD-II port scanners are pretty useful little tools, and one can read and erase trouble codes, read basic live data etc.

However, they have limited functionality when compared to the advanced diagnostic scan tools. One cannot change the user options on the BCM with them, for instance.

Actually, there are scanners and diagnostic tools with varying levels of functionality. The more the cost, the more advanced is the ability of the diagnostic scan tool.

The most advanced ones (and most expensive, as well) are called "OEM level diagnostic scan tools" and they can perform plenty of tasks. The ones with the Hyundai service centre guys are Hyundai specific OEM level diagnostic scanners.

The ones like the advanced generic Bosch diagnostic scan tool (whose image I included in the previous post) are also OEM level diagnostic scanners, but they have the ability to work on cars of most manufacturers, as opposed to a single manufacturer (or group). So they may be even more expensive. Moreover, one needs to pay a yearly amount to the scan tool manufacturer to get the latest updates, ability to scan new models etc.

Quote:
But the screenshot which you shared here clearly has the ability to enable / disable certain features of the car which were purposefully disabled while coming out of factory but actually the car is capable of. So, is it advisable to tweak them on our own?
Well, if you're lucky to have access to an advanced diagnostic scan tool (either OEM specific or a generic one with manufacturer & model specific functions), then why not?

We have tuners/modifiers who are actually tweaking the software of the ECM to extract more power, torque, drivability, FE etc. from cars. Compared to that, this is just a very basic change, and should not affect the car in any way (AFAIK).

Quote:
I see that for Elite i20 one can enable both auto door lock and unlock feature. So, is there any option to enable to FE and Distance to Empty meters as well?
I checked the BCM settings and no, there does not seem to be a way where these two settings can just be enabled so easily. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it may require a bigger change, like a software update to the ECU.

Quote:
Also, do you have any information on such "disabled" features of Grand i10?
Yes, and it seems to be the same for the Grand i10 and Xcent, as it is for the new i20. So the user changeable settings on the BCM are for the headlamp escort function, auto door lock and auto door unlock features only.

My apologies. I missed out to mention that I was merely quoting the sales guy I interacted with as I had the same question. However after reading your post I did the calculation myself using this website :- http://tire-size-conversion.com/tire-size-calculator/

The result is as attached which seems to suggest a ride height difference of 0.1 inch which is 2.54 mm.
