Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.6L GT TDI : Official Review

A friend and I took my GT TDI to Bangalore and back this weekend. He did most of the driving and enjoyed the car a great deal. Due to tiredness, I was happy to let him do the whole trip back today.

When I took over the driving again, after dropping friends in the city, I was amazed: the long drive had improved the feel of the car better than any service!

Dear Thad E Ginathom,

Ha Ha Ha Ha....

The fun part apart, I have had similar experiences with ALL my cars since 1998!
In fact, I have found that the FE improves AFTER the long drives. AND the funny part is that low rpm and high rpm performance is better!

Maybe I am stupid - I am just a poor B.Tech. Metallurgy from IIT Bombay - maybe some of the experts in this field can enlighten us!

Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.6L GT TDI : Official Review

I managed to close the deal on a 2013 GT TDi on Saturday.
She's clocked 34000kms and the stock Apollos were pretty much knackered.

Apart from the shoes, she is in great condition (corroborated by VWs checkup evaluation done at the Rajajinagar A.S.S). I have never liked white on any car, but I must say that this Veedub is growing on me.

With a petrol i20 being the car that made way for Ze German, every moment spent behind the wheel of the GT is leaving a ear-to-ear grin plastered on my face

Update:
The OE Apollo near-slicks were replaced with 205/55 S drives yesterday which has meant that giving her the beans is no longer as scary it was. As an added bonus, the new shoes look great on her.

Here's to joining the tribe and to many many thousands of miles with Ze German ! *touchwood*

Cheers !

Sundar

Welcome to the GT club Sundar and as a customary update, report/pics please

Considering the fact that we have some well documented reports of VAG TDI engines running in excess of 1.5L Kms, at 34k Kms your GT is still a fresh one buddy.

Wish you a happy motoring and drive safe.

My brother drives the I-gen I20 1.2 and I can completely understand the feeling of piloting the 1.6 GT TDI, it is in a completely different plateau.

The tire swap/upsize you have done is also the perfect balance between the grip and comfort (IMO). The best part about this engine is that it is also as much frugal as it is fun.

And whatte family it is, innit?

I've been commuting to work for the last couple of days with the GT and I'm surprised at how quickly she's put me at ease, be it in Bangalore's epic traffic snarls or open roads.

The 'advantage' of going pre-owned I keep telling myself, is that I don't have the running-in period to worry about. On the worn Aceleres, she was spinning up her fronts when given the beans; needless to say the new shoes have made a world of difference.

And here are a some pics for now (shot on my phone, hence excuse the lack of quality and skill too ); will pen down a report asap !

You may remove the back mudflaps and you will have a mean machine for people watching you from the back!

I can vouch for the stability 205/55/R15 S drives brings to your ride. I too even changed my stock tyres to same spec recently.

Wishing you many more miles of spirited driving ahead.

Sweet

At the time of my purchase, VW were phasing out the 1.6 and I was probably one of the last ones to buy this diesel rocket, so had to decide on the Red.
My favourite shade was White as it is like a blank sheet of paper, that enables you to just about draw your imagination out on!!

I second highwaypatrol here, considering the fact that you have the 205 section rubber.

A look of my GT (old pic):

It is such an easy car to drive!

I'm no great performance driver, but have often been frustrated by what doesn't happen when I need to put my foot down in other cars. Not so in the TDI. Acceleration is always there when you need it, even in the higher gears.

Yup, that's me Fiesta in awe of the bigger 1.6L sister

Sundra, many many congrats buddy! You've got yourself one of the best sleeper cars there which can put many bigger cars to shape when you press that A pedal! The car is a locomotive and the torque rush is so bloody addictive!!! Cannot wait to drive yours now!!!

Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.6L GT TDI : Official Review

Hi Guys, my 2014 GT TDI clocked 52k kms started to increase the rpm when the engine is idling and when AC is ON.
After the AC is turned Off, the rpm remains at the same position ( increased ).
Let me know if you guys think it is common for a diesel or petrol motors.
Note: Video recorded after a normal start ( NOT a cold start )

The rpm rising by 100 rpm or so when the AC is switched on is normal. However I don't remember seing mine near the 1000 rpm mark. More like the 700-800 rpm or so.

Those black alloys look sweet. I love the design of those alloys too. Lensos?

Drive on,
Shibu.

Shibujp, Thanks for the info.
I had forgot to mention there are two observations.

1. During cold start also the rpm is raising to 1000-1100rpm ( even when AC is OFF), and engine starts to misfire. Restarting the IGN corrects the problem.
2. During normal drive, when AC is ON, rpm raise to 1000rpm and no Engine misfire noticed.

For both the observations, there is NO MIL shown on the cluster.

I'm sure something has went wrong as the car never used to behave this way.

I've started to notice this problem after the car was parked for 3 weeks as I was out of station.

Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.6L GT TDI : Official Review

I think it may be due to the battery going bad. I have experienced strange and unusal behaviour in my 2010 Vento 1.6 TDI lately. The current battery has been used for over 50,000 kilometers, and it has been 2 years since it was installed.

RPM increased once for me with front and rear defogger running with the car being stationary. Cold start engine cranks have been longer, and RPM goes up and down by 50-ish multiple times, with the headlight intensity also changing during this.

I have not taken it to a service centre yet.
