Re: Hyundai Grand i10 : Official Review

Hello everyone,

I got the Second service/1 year/10000 km service done for my Grand i10 Asta Petrol. It cost me Rs.2500 including wheel balancing. Average FE is around 15.4 kmpl out of Tier-2 city roads and highways. Happy with the car so far.

I noticed that the FE has dropped drastically during the last month (Peak summer in Vidharba region Maharashtra) to 13.2 kmpl.

My FiL who used the car for a couple of months complained of Petrol smell near the filler area. He claimed it is very high especially in the noon when parked in the sun. The smell seems to persist even after cleaning the area with a moist cloth and checking the fuel cap. I believe this car comes with EVAP canister and won't let off vapour from the fuel lid in any case. It hasn't re-occurred since but coincides with a drop in FE. Is it normal?

Hyundai keeps bringing face lifts of almost all of their cars at frequent intervals, no doubt it's a good thing as it maintains freshness, this also reminds me of redmi phones which keep on coming every next month

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 : Official Review

Hi Guys.

V-Belt of my 43k driven 2014 Grand i10 petrol started making noise.

Got the original V-Belt (Part No.25212-03050) changed at my FNG and noise disappeared but again came back in full glory after a week.

FNG says that the belt is loose and there is no option to tighten V-Belt in Grand i10. He suggested a smaller belt size from another car/model.

What are my options?

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 : Official Review

My two year old grand i10 AT is due for its second annual service. The car sometimes has a very rough idle on starting, it gets sorted only if the throttle is pressed gently for about half a minute or so. It occurs only in a couple of months or so and it might not get replicated at the service centre. I am not sure whether an error code might show up, since the car is running fine for the most part.

An example; one cold morning the car started fine and as expected the rpm stayed a little high for a few seconds and came down. After a short drive, had to parked it under the sun. When started the sun baked car at noon, the idling was very rough, almost as if starving for fuel or one of the injectors not working. But it got cured in less than a minute by pressing the throttle pedal to keep the rpm high. Found the rough idle going away if shited to D but didn't try to drive without a steady idle at P.

Has anyone faced this? The Hyundai A.S.S is not very great these days and giving the car for a periodic service is becoming a stressful event. Don't want the service advisor to start stories ranging from the battery to the injectors. Any inputs regarding the problem would be very helpful.

For me similar issue was seen in Santro xing with rough and high idling rpm. I tried to get it resolved for 3 years without any luck. Hyundai ASS was unable to resolve it. They tried cleaning throttle body several times, cleaning actuator with lame excuses such as there is carbon deposited etc. Finally I asked them to reset ECU which they could not. This is not a story with one ASS but with three in Bangalore. This explains the competency they possess. Really disappointing.
Coming to your issue, please ask them if they can help on these fronts I have explained above. Perhaps they can help with i10 since the car is newer than santro xing. I recommend to check their equipment which they use to diagnose the issue. If they say the test has passed please check if their instrument indeed says so. I was told many times that ECU was reset but it was not. When I insisted on seeing the data it was a reset test failure. Finally I was left with no choice but to sell my xing. Enough with Hyundai and switched to Tiago with fingers crossed

Check the pulleys - if they have become too smooth, the belt may slip and make noise. Replacing the pulley(s) may be an option.

step 1: try cleaning the throttle body. If possible, stay and supervise the cleaning. Watch some youtube videos on how a throttle body is cleaned and then go for the service.

Step 2: Check the following thoroughly one by one - clean /replace anything faulty and check for a week before moving on to the next - air intake system (check for clogged filter, cracked hoses, malfunctioning maf sensor), fuel system (fuel filter, spark plugs, injectors), and idle speed actuator.

Doesn't the ECU reset if the battery is disconnected?

I am not an expert in this area but in that case why their reset test for failing consistently? They tried 10 times in front of me but every time it was failing. This was done after removing and putting back the battery as well. Finally they gave up saying "if rpm raise is only the issue, that's ok". I was not convinced with that response since the problem was never fixed

My Xcent automatic also does the same thing. It is very rough in the beginning and from the outside, you can hear all sorts of clatter. I have noticed it more when I start the car after the few days of not using it. To be frank, I never thought it was an issue, since it goes away shortly after I start driving and never mentioned it to SA in the last 5 years. I felt it is related to the temp guage. It goes away by the time, the temp needle settles in its usual resting place moving up from zero. Now that you mention it, I remember I never used to notice it when the car was new. My car is a 2014 model.

If RPM raising at idling is the only issue, most likely it is something to do with throttle body clogging or some air pipes clogging. Can't be anything else. The ECU is counteracting the issue by raising the RPM, so that the suction by the engine is stronger and enough air reaches the cylinder, despite the clogging. Similar effect to how the BP rises in us humans, if the arteries start to clog up.

What I face is not the usual belt/pulley/fan clatter. It is almost as if the engine is going to die if the throttle pedal is not pressed.

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 : Official Review

As much as I like the aesthetic of an ivory/white interior, I have concerns over their long-term ramifications, especially in India. Be that as it may, I really, really like the design theme of both the inside and outside.

Looks are very much similar to new Santro. Colour looks cool but looks not that different. Where is Hyundai going with small cars?
