Re: Hyundai Grand i10 : Official Review Hello all,
Was in South City Mall in Kolkata yesterday, and the i10 Grand was on display.
wife and self went to see what it was and was quite impressed with the find.
I bought the "new" Ritz VDI 10 months back.
Was comparing my buy with the new kid on the block.
I did not compare top model to top model, but went for Grand (Magna) Vs Ritz VDI, generally what we ultimately end up buying because of pocket constraints.
The two cars are mostly comparable on features, however some points of difference I noticed are enumerated below.
+ve to Hyundai Grand (Magna variant) vs Ritz VDI:
1. Grand comes with parcel tray, in Ritz I had to buy one. (Rs 900+)
2. Boot lamp of Grand must be helpful while loading grocery in the dark parking of Metro Cash & Carry / Big Bazar, in my Ritz I have to use my mobile torch, holding it in my mouth.
3. Electrically adjustable ORVM in Grand should be a boon, feel the pain everyday in my Ritz during street side parking in Kolkata, while adjusting the LHS ORVM by stretching to my extreme left to check the left rear wheel & kerb distance, and then resetting it again while driving off. Esp as I am short @ 5'3".
4. Grand comes with key-less entry, I had to purchase one for my Ritz VDI. (Rs 4500+)
5. Body coloured Door handles and ORVM of Grand is surely an advantage over black Door Handle and ORVM of Ritz.
6. Mileage of 24.88kmpl of Grand as per ARAI compared to 23.2kmpl of Ritz.
7. Rear power outlet in Grand absent in Ritz.
8. Rear AC vents in Grand should result in faster cooling in the rear compared to the front vents "throwing" air till the rear in my Ritz VDI.
9. Packaging of tool kits in cloth bag of Grand compared to the plastic bag of my Ritz making noises over bumpy roads (omnipresent in Kolkata).
10. Grand is priced at INR 6.17 lakhs on road in Oct '13 compared to Ritz priced at INR 6.49 lakhs on road in Dec '12 (at Kolkata).
+ve to Ritz VDI vs Grand (Magna variant)
1. 60:40 split rear seat of Ritz missing in Grand, makes difference during long journeys with more luggage.
2. Ritz seems has a higher stack height in the boot over the Grand.
3. MID of Rtiz is very meaningful with (ODO, Trip A, Trip B, Instant Fuel Consumption, Average Fuel Consumption, Range / Kms to empty) compared to Grand (ODO, Trip A, Trip B, Average vehicle speed, Engine running time). In Kolkata traffic Average vehicle speed will tend to ZERO and Engine running time will tend to INFINITY !!
4. Rear spoiler in Ritz VDI adding to its beauty is sadly missing in Grand Magna.
5. Body side moulding of Ritz VDi is missing in the Grand Magna.
6. Tyre size of 165/80R14 of the Ritz surely adds to the stability and thicker sidewalls mean less chances of dented rims on potholed city roads, compared to the 165/65R14 of the Grand. Driving comfort will be better with Grand with lower profile tyres and a lighter car, but you have to be careful not to hit potholes at high speeds, esp in a one off pothole on a smooth road. (Like you sometimes find on EM Byepass)
7. Tilt steering in Ritz helps adjusting to different driver heights (e.g. me @ 5'3" and by B-I-L @ 6') is missing in Grand.
8. The driver seat of Ritz pulled max in front cramps me @ 5'3" and was comfortable for a madam in my office @ 4'9", who would not have been able to drive the Grand as its seat pulled max in front was just OK for me.
9. Rear seats with adjustable head rests is an advantage in Ritz missing in Grand.
10. Front seat headrests do not have any adjustability in any model of Grand compared to all models of Ritz.
Points of confusion:
Does the driveability of a 3 cylinder vary with a 4 cylinder in Diesel?
In petrol I know it does not, as I have driven Maruti 800 (both Carburetor and MPFI models) for years without being able to feel that it was a 3 cylinder, esp immediately after changing over from petrol (4 cylinder) Ambassador. Even did not find any difference while driving Zen vs M800.
Hyundai advertises on something called a battery saver, wherein the alternator cuts off when the battery is fully charged, thereby reducing load on engine leading to better fuel efficiency. This technology (though not advertised) is present in Ritz.
I have been able to conjure up these many points. Again, please note I have compared Grand Magna to Ritz VDI and these are all my observations. Any recent change in specifications by manufacturers have not been captured here.
Overall, I liked the car to a large extent, my wife loved the look of the car immensely, who had historically liked the look of Ritz immensely (still does).
Brickbats and accolades welcome alike.
Regards,
Saurav
