@Gizmokid: I totally understand your concern but at the end of the day Ford dealers should not have accepted your booking in Oct 2012! Being educated and responsible men we should not have fallen prey to these silly dealers!

My point is that Ford should have officially announced pre-booking dates and then allocated a special booking number immediately which stays common between the customer, dealer & Ford along with the date and time of booking.

Now, that damage has been caused we all have fallen prey to this nonsense! :deadhorse

If someone pays the dealer a pre booking amount, knowing fully well that there is no finite launch date, there is nothing Ford can do about it; There is no damage caused here

This is excellent news clap:! I hope all the other Ford dealers follow suit.

Chennai Ford, also accepted to get the insurance done on our own outside. Did not insist on getting it done from them or not even a push ! He said "OK BOSS" :thumbs up

BTW, they also confirmed no Cancellation charges for all those who have booked before announcement of prices. That is the reason I booked it even before knowing the prices. Still believe it would hover around Rs.10-10.5 lacs OTR for Tdci Titanium.

I wanted to compare the Figo, Fiesta, Classic and the Ecosport. I did get to drive all of them within a span of half an hour. Even offered to bring the Endeavor to my house as I specifically wanted the Stick shift and not the Auto tranny. Way to go FORD. Hope and wish all FORD Dealers are alike.

Cheers

The looong wait, and losing the competition can be too much for some people stupid:

Any doubt, gets blown away by the high quality poll at the end of his post.

Now this is what happens when a marketing campaign gets ahead of the product itself, and people lose their minds. I guess 1 more day to go, to find out :-)

You're right. and my point is that this whole product launch exercise has been sloppily executed, at least so far.

Even if such elaborate hype-generating marketing campaigns actually help Ford, how much marginal benefit will Ford realize in the long run in terms of the ability to charge higher prices / grab market share? Is it all worth it?

If the product is packaged and priced in a way that it offers a compelling value proposition to a sizable market segment, wouldn't a company like Ford generate good sales numbers with much less fanfare?

I actually found the space to be a bit less than the duster but not by much. I am 6'1 and there is space for me to sit behind after adjusting the driver seat for my comfort level. The only area where Duster scores is in the boot and a wee bit more in interior width. The extra length of the duster is mostly used up in the bonnet area and the boot. There is not much difference in the interior space (length particularly).

I only had a look at the rear space and seat as I could not get a seat due to the many people doing musical chairs.
It 'looked' a little better than my Figo's rear seat, but as you said, it will be more than that, once seated.
As for the pricing , I mentioned that it will need the right pricing since, barring enthusiasts, the common man will only look at this with regards to space since it a small SUV they are wanting ,driveable in city.
If I think of going for this product, I would look at this as a replacement for my Figo , with the ecoboost variant, as space is not a priority.

Fuel efficiency is 6 km/l? Can't climb a slope with 5 on board? I'd say his choice of gear was wrong!

Pity the poor soul. Hope he gets well soon.

Sometimes, failure brings out the worst in people. Clearly he is miffed that he was kicked out. He is clearly exaggerating, but I guess, not completely without a point.

I am particularly amused by the comparison with Maruti 800, that the ecoboost cannot pull up a slope with 5 on board. I think there can be a bit of truth in it. When starting from standstill, the turbo isn't working at all. So until the rpm builds up, the engine is on it's own without any assistance from the turbo. Now, imagine a 1.0L NA engine trying to haul a 1.2 tonne car on a slope with 5 people on board. Difficult, I'd say. You'd have to burn the clutch, before the car takes off.

I'd like to be proved wrong, else the ecoboost engine is going off my list.

The same thing happens in a Diesel engine with turbo. If you are on a steep slope and you have to start from stand still , you need to rev the car much to get into the turbo zone to make it move. But once you know how it works , it shouldn't be a problem.

I think these chaps from Bangalore did the same and feel its the cars fault.

If this bothers you so much , I guess you will have to stick to the 1.5 Petrol

I guess, in a diesel, you have better torque at the low revs. In petrol, u have neither bhp nor torque.

Saw a demo Eco Sport roaming around in Meerut's main market yesterday. So they are really serious about the launch it seems. Did NOT look like a hatchback as most think it does, but had a proper baby SUV stance. Liked it at first glance. Ideal size for our congested roads.

The Ecoboost engine develops 170NM of torque between 1400-4500 RPM. So max torque is available at quite low RPM. :)

In comparison the 1.5 D develops 204NM at 2000-2750 RPM

7Bhp and 100Kgs apart. Those are the two numbers which I found after a quick search. I was curious to know the mileage of the 1.5l petrol; and as the ecosport shares the same engine as the new Fiesta, can I safely assume I will get around 14~15 km/ltr as the difference in power produced and the weight are minimal.

I'd assume it'll give around 10 in cities and about 15 on highways. Just guessing from fiesta's reports.

Here are pics taken from the Ecosport in Brazil; the Beige interior.

I guess this picture has part of the answer

I saw the car y'day in the company's service centre. No test drive available.

SA said that the pricing would be between 9 to 12 Lacs. The basic model is pretty barebones.

It is strictly a 4 seater, we tried with seating 3 adults on the rear seat and it is not advisable to do that unless you want to end your friendship :)

Interior fit and finish looked top notch, sound system was really nice for stock.

As confirmed in the official review also, the front seats also felt small for somebody large sized.

I guess, it will all come down to the pricing and expected mileage. If it is priced at around 10L OTR for Titanium with a mileage of around 18+, it'd be my purchase (though I feel that this might not happen).
