For people who have seen it, does the Mars Red color have this kind of dual shade effect, because in some pictures the Ecosport appears true red and in some it has an orange shade? :confused:

Latin NCAP standards are almost same as the ones in euro NCAP. The testing procedure and the equipment used are the same. 4 stars in Latin NCAP is descent enough as the safety features in the test car would be less than that of Euro NCAP test. The trend is cars which have 5 stars in Euro get 3-4 stars in the Latin rest.

That's a nice find. On further looking, I see that the max that any car has scored in Latin NCAP is 4 stars. Cars like Polo, Cruze and Fiesta which have scored 5 stars in Euro NCAP have scored 4 here.

Over and above that, the ecosport has scored points of 13.64 out of a max 16.00 for protection of Adult occupants, which is higher than even what the Cruze has scored. Looks extremely impressive.

Why is there no news of the AT? With 6-speed triptronic Powershift, 6-airbags, brake-assist, stability control, traction control etc, it should be a steal if priced at the same level as titanium diesel, for those who plan to drive less than, say, 10000 km a year.

GTO, in the Fiesta Automatic review, said that the 1.5L Petrol TI-VCT engine is termed 'lackluster' on the Fiesta. But would the triptronic powershift make the driving experience more interesting?

Went to Harpreet ford in Gurgaon today and took a look at the Ecosport there. The car isn't big and it is obvious that its a hatchback. Interiors look much better than the duster though plastic quality in general is not great. It looks well put together, though. The doors close with a reassuring thud which is something that is missing from the duster. Getting in and out of the car is easy thanks to the height and the seats offer adequate support. It is a 4 seater but because one is sitting upright with straight knees, the space feels more than, say, and i20.

They'll start TDs only after 26th is what I was told and don't seem to have much idea about the price except it'll be in a bracket of 6-11 lakhs :)

That is indeed impressive,especially when we consider the fact that most of the cars available in India don't have the same safety equipment as in the Euro NCAP tested models. This 4 star rating is more relevant, considering the models we buy and use may have only 2 airbags coupled with other safety features.

I'm guessing the Titanium option should score a good 5/5 then ? Brilliant stuff by Ford really

Also it is worth noting that the Duster has 3 stars in Euro NCAP. Translated to Latin NCAP, it could go down to two stars.

What more can it score with its paper-thin sheet metal, and a structure made like wafer? The Duster which is supposedly wider, longer and roomier is curiously lighter than the Ecosport. Speaks volumes about its build quality. And safety...

All those who are confused about various variants (:Frustrati), here's a ready reckoner. Just copy-pasted from Ford website and did conditional formatting in excel. One image shows the difference between all variants and one has common features.I hav put minor cosmetic changes lik ORVM color etc in the common sheet, just to focus on the meat in the difference.

=> CHECK if needed for Titanium (O)! Reverse the EcoSport and a ‘beep’ lets you know when the sensors detect objects behind you, while a display in your dashboard indicates where they are. So, do CHECK whether you need to spend 15k for a camera & lcd additionally, for this sub4m car? You maynot need is my humble suggestion.

Cowboy, from the exhaustive list you've provided this is all I'd buy for my Ecosport Diesel if it ever happens :) Also, rear spoiler will NOT add any stability on your Ecosport. Only a proper Rear Spoiler on a sedan which is driven on a track will make a perceptible difference. A rear spoiler on an Ecosport will enhance looks at best

Thickness of sheet metal does not guarantee safety, it is the crumple zones and other design factors that matter, in addition to abs, airbags etc.

Duster has legendary ride quality while Ecosport has its looks. It will be interesting to see if Ecosport beats Duster's sales numbers consistently.

Hey all Ecosport fanatics ,

I am getting my Ecosport (Titanium TDCi) in the 1st week of July. Yes, i booked it on 17th (Monday) - Chennai Ford. I got a test drive on tuesday, surprised to see still other dealerships not giving TDs to prospective customers.

- There is a lag till 1800 rpm(not as much as MJDs), then it surges ahead briskly.
- Gear shift feels good to throw around (Effortless and sure slotting)
- space at front and the seats are less & smaller than my Dzire.
- Rear seat is comfy for 2. Good leg space and thigh support. A kid can be squeezed inbetween, shoulder room is at a premium.
- Boot is enough for 4 (weekend trip).
- 60:40 split is welcome and reclining of back seats a blessing.
- Gadgets, features, SYNC, Auto AC, Alloy wheel design, Steering design, ICE - :thumbs up
- The car looks small in person, a bit disappointed with its height and width.

I am pretty sure the price would not cross 10 lacs OTR for Titanium (TDCi). You can call it my instinct or gut feeling. Would feel shot at, if it does so !


No offence to Duster fans and owners, just my perspective.

It is not worth its price (at all). Do not like its beefed up looks and the headlamp cluster is unimpressive. The Rear end looks awkward for me, like how a Tavera looks (Ground clearance is too much when looked from back). visually unappealing for me. Could not digest the price when it was released, unfathomable hikes post that, killed it for me.

Other contender was XUV W6 and Storme.

Xuv - The niggles thread is still over flowing with posts. Dont have time and patience to Crib and complain to ASS frequently.

Storme - some how do not feel its a new one at all. Feature wise - worser than Duster. Bare bones. Side facing last row seats - :Frustrati

So it is the Ford's DNA, safety features and of course the looks and the colour options nailed it for me. I wanted the Kinetic Blue.

BTW, are there Tuning boxes for the 1.5l TDCi in India and has anyone tried it on their New Fiesta.

I think they will give test drives once the vehicles are in. I had got a call from Pune Ford dealer yesterday and he told me they hadn't received the vehicles yet.

Moreover you can read in the thread that dealers are saying they will give TD only after the prices are announced on 26th. What is the tentative pricing that was told to you ?

I wonder how Ford will now price the Ecosport considering the rupee has tanked against the dollar quite a bit. But they have to be careful not to overprice it. I don't know how much mandatory the accessories are.

The Brazilian Ecosport is comparable to Duster in size however the Indian one is surgically modified to fit the excise bracket. Even otherwise Ford looks set to earn quite a good amount on this model.:D
