The octy/Jetta brakes are killer. All wheel disc bigger brakes and all make a huge difference.

If cost is no bar, go for a big brake kit. Brembo sucks.
Mine was the original Octavia with drums at the rear. Only the VRS got discs at the back in that generation.

The options for ventilated discs in India is pretty limited. I was actually starting to look for Brembo Ventilated discs for the Polo. Any other options?

I’m not too keen on the big brake kit because I believe the wheels need to be 16 inches. Correct me if I am wrong.

Tyre Experiment#3 for 195/55/R16

Apollo Alnac 4G rated at 87H: provided the best ride comfort over all road conditions such as potholes, expansion joints, etc. The steering feels more precise. And, the braking is not bad. I maintain the recommended pressure of 36 PSI.

Continental MC5 rated at 87V: provided excellent braking and harshest ride

Yokohama Blue Earth rated at 87V: provided average braking and average ride

H rating = 210 kmph max speed
V rating = 240 kmph max speed

Layman's conclusion: Irrespective of tyre brand/compound/tread pattern, a tyre with higher speed rating will have a stiffer casing construction to facilitate higher speeds. So, if you want a cushy ride on your 16" rims and want to maintain stock tyre size, stick to 87H rated tyres (Appollo Alnac or Pirelli P1).

Found an interesting article discussing relationship between tyre's speed rating and ride comfort

Quote:
the speed rating is there for one reason, max speed, but it plays a role in many other factors of the tire’s performance. Not only does it govern how fast you can drive but it also indirectly affects the comfort and response that you will get out of the tire. It is always advisable to maintain, at a minimum, the original speed rating that came on your vehicle.

Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.2L GT TSI : Official Review

Completed first long drive on GT TSI, roughly 1000 kms. It was a pleasure to drive on hilly roads towards Sringeri.

In D mode, gear upshift is very quick, at roughly 1200-1300 rpm. It reaches D7 at 65km speed itself. It is bit annoying as the initial pickup is bad. Is this normal or something that will get improved over a period of time?

This is normal. The D mode is meant for relaxed driving. If you need instant power for overtaking etc, there are two ways to do this.

1. Temporarily shift to S mode. This will immediately give you enough torque to overtake.
2. While in D mode, stamp on the accelerator pedal. The action has to be swift. You will see the gear box immediately shift down a couple of gears. Once you experience this, this is fun.

As a rule of thumb, while driving on hilly roads, drive in "S" mode so that you stay on lower gears (shifts at around 3k rpm) which also helps in engine braking. You would also have power on the tap in "S" mode

Yes, D is annoyingly eager to upshift. Use M and change gears yourself. Or S if there is enough open road.

Thank you, will try the second one. Yes, i was using S mode frequently for overtaking. Just before the gear upshift at 3k rpm, the accelerator was bit annoying with high revs.

Thanks, this was the lesson learnt during those hilly drives.

Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.2L GT TSI : Official Review

This is correct. Along with ample power, S mode has wider range for each gear to stay within. This saves the load on gearbox, preventing excess heating.

Congratulations @agambhandari on the new ride, although i am a bit late to wish you.

Since your's is the most recent car on this thread i wanted to ask whether the head unit supports CarPlay/Android Auto ? I couldn't get a conclusive answer in the brochure and it'd be best to know what came with the most recent deliveries.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Volkswagen Polo 1.2L GT TSI : Official Review

Finally getting mine this week. It's been quite the exercise to get this car. Started in December with me looking for discounts - expected to walk away with a GT TSI for a steal because it's, you know, the end of the year and is a petrol car

Quite the surprise that turned out to be. Minimum of 3 months waiting, no discounts, no nothing.

Anyways, I was lucky enough to find one in December and managed to squeeze out a bit of discount that included the arm rest, VW GT Seat covers, trunk garnish and the side beedings, but changed my mind at the last minute as it was white. Always wanted the Carbon Steel, but was told they've stopped production, so as most people do with the Polo, went in for the red. That was back in Jan. Fast forward to last week of March, it's finally here.

Got what I thought was a great deal from Kotak for the B2B insurance w/ Return to Invoice, RSA and Engine Cover - worked out to 55k for 3 years including 3rd party.

Couple of things I wanted some clarifications on
1. Recommendations on tints - prefer something that is towards black but without raising any policeman eyebrows - Bangalore please
2. Black Seat Covers with clean red stitching and a GT emblem/monogram
3. Recommendations on tires - I've read here the Apollo's are better than MRF or anything else that comes with the Polo. Don't need anything fancy - just whatever is comfortable and will do a good job with handling and braking.
4. Does it makes sense to get the extra key with a remote - was absolutely disgusted when I found out they sell the spare key without a remote
5. Thinking of getting the roof blacked out - glossy of course - any suggestions?
6. Any way to get a good number for cheap? Dealer quoted 20k for the number I wanted.
7. Was intrigued about getting the VW Connect Dongle - any thoughts?

This seems to be high. Unless it includes comprehensive also for 3 years.

I paid 27K for 1 Yr comprehensive + 3 yr 3rd Party insurance from Kotak. Bought online at PolicyBazaar. And I have made the first claim also. Deductible was Rs.1000
