I don't know if I should go to the ASS or some other garage for the VCDS Coding. The service centre may hesitate to do it.

Enabling CarPlay or Android Auto requires some flags to be enabled in VCDS. Best is to get it done at service center. Offer to pay them for the service. They should be able to do this.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Do you guys know someone in Delhi NCR who can undertake this coding?

Regards

Mod Note - Please quote only the relevant portion, Thanks.

You need to update the firmware in order to enable Auto and CarPlay. I'm sure there are plenty of VAG VCDS coders around Delhi. You could also download the firmware into a flashdrive and flash the HU yourself.

Try @drcodemyvw on Instagram. They deal with remote coding for VAG vehicles. Maybe they could help out.

Thank you so much for your inputs.

Visited the service centre and they were all over the place and couldn't rectify this. According to them, if the stock radio has been changed, the Diagnostic system cannot detect it etc. - utter bullshit.

Called another local seller who quoted 2k for helping with this. contacted drcodemyvw but found the quotation to be too high for the task at hand.

Finally, updated the Firmware myself using the link shared by PrisonMike. apple car play and android auto enabled within minutes!! What a relief!

:)

Hey guys

I just happened to notice an odd noise/sound come off from the engine once I turn the car off. It just so happened that my bonnet was open because I was refilling the wiper fluids and left the car running just to get it warmed up simultaneously.

I happened to turn off the car with the bonnet still open, and I heard a very peculiar chain/clanking sounding noise from from somewhere in the engine bay. The sound can best be described as though you were changing gears in a geared bicycle. This happened when the engine completely/almost shut down.

I doubt this was the engine ticking sound, because the car was left on for barely a minute.

Does anyone know what could cause this sound? Is it normal? This was the first time I heard it, probably because this was the first time I was near the engine with the bonnet open and it was shut off.

Any help would be appreciated as always!

The Polo seems to have very poor heat insulation between the engine bay and the cabin.

This is prominent even more in the summers. Even after driving just for 30 minutes and parking the car, the cabin is noticeably hotter than before when you enter after some time. You can feel the heat/warmth if you touch the plastics around the cup holder area.

Did anyone else notice this? Any solutions? Thanks!

Hello friends,
I need suggestions.

I have started noticing sound from the front tire/suspension everytime the car goes through a speed breaker. Almost like a hissing sound as if air is going out. There is no difference in ride quality or anything else.

Before I visit the service guys i want to check if this is of any concern e.g. is my suspension off? The car has run barely 20k in 3+ years and driven carefully.

Also any recommendations on which VW service center is reliable In the HSR area of Bangalore?

Thanks

Thanks! I have noticed this only in front suspension and not the rear. Is that also usual?

This is due to the fact that the front shock absorbers are not Gas-filled shock absorbers and the rear are. You can upgrade to gas-filled absorbers to get rid of the noise and a marginally better ride

My 2019 Polo GT with 10K on the odo has been reporting incorrect fuel quantity on the gauge. The tank gauge does not go below 3/4th full indication, and the range display shows an unrealistic 400 to 700 km even when I know the tank is close to empty. The car is due for a service soon. Has anyone else experienced this issue?. How much would it cost to get it fixed? I believe the car is still under extended warranty which I had paid for upfront during purchase.

Hello all, I thought of penning down my experience of buying a used Polo GT TSI and getting our members support with some of the questions I have. So here it goes

The Initial Drill

I’ve always wanted a hot hatch and given the fact that my annual driving range is mostly around 5k kms, I’ve never had the urge to prioritise mileage. So, to me, these are the pointers which make the perfect hot hatch:

Now the fun part starts: (Or the annoying part as some of my friends and family calls it :p)

With these points in mind and an inherent need to satisfy my OCDs, the only car which seemed to fit my bill was the Polo. Not just any Polo, but the one and only Polo 1.2 GT TSI. I would’ve loved it if it had a manual but the DSG is no slouch - gear shifts in under 10ms! The level of engineering behind it is just amazing.

The Hunt

I was quite disappointed with the final facelift where they replaced the 4 pot with a 3 pot and the DSG with a TC.
So I started looking into the used car market and for years I could not find the right one. Either the car was too beaten up :sadface or the price was over and beyond my reach.
Finally, I hit the jackpot! I found this listing of a white Polo GT TSI 2015 model which had done around 50K kms in Chennai for a real steal price of 4L!

Initially, I was a little skeptical about the price and also since it had done about 50K kms, I thought a list of major expenses might be lurking in the corner. But I decided to have an open mind and went ahead for a test drive.

Oh boy, the car was buttery smooth and that mid-range acceleration literally swept me off my feet. The way the car steered around corners and the nice weighted steering (still miss the HPS of Fords though) was just outstanding. The previous owner had made some good mods as well - it was running on upsized 195/55 R15 tyres and also had eagle eyes dual projectors. There weren’t any major issues with the body work, just some minor scratches here and there, nothing that we cannot live with and there were no jerks in D2-D3-D4 as well!

I just couldn’t say “no” to the deal. The price of the car was such that I can still shell out money for any future expenses - even if it meant changing the clutch, adding 1.5L to the price still made it look like a good deal. I might be a little biased here because I was overly excited :Cheering:. So I bit the bullet and went for it.

The Initial Days

I immediately ordered a VCDS cable from vxdas and it got delivered in about 3 weeks. I made a note of all the important measuring block values from an internet search and a TBHP forum search and started scanning the car

No major error codes, just a couple on the radio antenna and the rear defogger and all vital MVBs seemed to be within normal range.
I even checked the clutch wear using the method posted in this thread and I had about 4mm to 5mm clutch material, which I believe would last for another 10k kms at least (fingers crossed).

I believe that whenever we buy a used car, using the car as-is for about a week or so, noting down all the things which you might want to get fixed and then taking it to the service station would yield better results as you have the chance to get all your pointers discussed and fixed at once

So I drove the car up and down to my office which is on OMR,Chennai and made note of all the knicks and knacks which might need addressing.
After jotting down all my observations, I was super happy that there wasn't much, except for minor things like changing the wiper blades and doing an over all thorough inspection and periodic service

One thing which I noticed and wanted to inquire about was the engine noise, to me was quite loud. Hailing from a fleet of port injected and NA engines, I found the TSI engine to be quite audible when you are standing outside. My other drive which is a K12 swift is almost whisper quiet even when I’m right next to the bonnet.

I went to the VW service station located on OMR and asked them to do a thorough inspection and address my pointers as well.
The service station did the 7th year annual service and also mentioned that TSI engines, being direct injected are loud and that this is normal.

Post service, the car felt smoother and I was happy and super excited with it. I've been using it for almost a month now and have done about 1000 kms. So far, I genuinely love the car.

Smitten forever

I believe in the saying, "We should never meet our heroes", it made absolute sense to me because we usually have unrealistic opinions about them and when we see the reality, it might mar the expectations we have built in our heads. To me, this has been true for cars as well. I read the reviews and look at the spec sheet and fantasise about how great the car would feel to drive, so much so that when I finally do get a chance to drive it, I realise that the reality is a lot different than what I had built up in my mind.

But this car was not the same. It genuinely exceeded my expectations and I started loving it even more, which I believed was just not possible. Now I look forward to many more exciting drives and thrilling upgrades!

I never trust love at first sight, but my car proved me wrong

I have a few questions and doubts and I need our members' help with it.

Your help with the above questions would help me a lot.
Thanks for reading.

Welcome to the Polo GT Club!

If you think the TSI is loud from outside, you should stand by a GT TDI. Whenever I hear mine from outside the car, I think that the bulkhead sound-proofing must be pretty good.

I don't think that there is an independent VW specialist in the area. There is a good Independent at Akkarai on ECR: Ignite Garage. You will always get decent and honest advice from Raghav.

I don't have any complaints about the Whites Road dealer/service. They have done both service and body work on both my Polos. Raghav has also. I am going to Ignite this time as there is a fair amount of work to do, including that timing belt. Parts will cost the same; labour is basically similar, but he will help shave cost where he can.

I wouldn't criticise a dealer for not doing work they don't consider necessary. In a way it is a good sign. But if you wanted something done ahead of time, especially a fairly expensive item, I'm surprised that they would not do it!

PS... There is an independent VAG man in Chennai, but I think he's in Ambatur. Quite a trek!

Hello folks.

I was lucky to get one of the very last remaining units of the Volkswagen Polo TSI (Highline Plus, Manual, Flash Red) delivered to me about a fortnight back. Here is a picture of it, when it was brand new.

Volkswagen Polo 1.2L GT TSI : Official Review-img_20220418_171229.jpg

Looks like some people out here around didn't quite appreciate our happiness of having a new car and keyed it on two place (very lightly on the driver side door and visibly on the rear right quarter panel. There is no CCTV camera around here, so we cannot catch or see who did this.

And if this wasn't enough, 10 days later, some nincompoop scraped the left side of the front bumper our our car (over the wheel arch) on a red light with his beater Hyundai Santro with its own rear bumper hanging before the scraped ours.

So what I have ended up with, is a scratched car which hasn't even completed a month. It just feels so sad. It just doesn't feel right.

I am planning to get those scratches and dents removed.

1. If I get this done from outside, I am skeptical about the quality of the work that will be done. Besides, VW uses water based paint on their cars, which local garages will most probably not have.

2. If I get this done from Volkswagen (specifically, Volkswagen Rajdhani-Delhi), the job they would do may be good. But it would probably cost a LOT.

The car has got scratches but the body panels itself have not been harmed/deformed at all. What is your suggestion?

Go to the dealer. You should get a proper job done with the original paint. It will cost you more than a "tinkering" shop, but my dealer charges the same as my local high-class independent.

Congratulations on the car. Very sad to hear about the disgusting behaviour of thugs.

Thank you so much, Thad E.
Well, I have kind of accepted it. No matter how much one protect their cars and drive them in their limits safely, somebody else would definitely damage the car at some point of time, particularly in metropolitan cities, where the driver has to deal with almost 24X7 traffic.

I am thinking about it as well. I don't mind shelling out a bit more than it normally should, if the quality of the job done is good.

Thanks for the prompt reply BUT he is asking too much for installation.

Can someone else help here, please?

Will the VW workshop install it for me?

Thanks.

Where did you end up getting this installed? How much Esperto was charging?

Congratulations on your new car!
Scratches, dents are a part and parcel of any car ownership. Been there done that. It's best to get the car checked by a detailer to see if the scratches can be removed without re-painting the panel.
I own a Lapiz Blue GT, and my experience re-painting from the VW service centre has been super bad. They were not able to match the colour, and the finish was just unacceptable by any standards.
I finally got those very panels re-painted from a renowned body shop. The work they did was excellent, and I've been going to them ever since (have had people crash into me while standing still in traffic, had people brush against my bumper while the car was parked in the parking lot, have had kids key away the paint on the bonnet). I recently got the car detailed from them, and it's back to new :)
I've learnt to accept that this is going to happen, and I have peace of mind that I know a workshop which will restore my car anytime something happens. I suppose that's all one needs.
I'll be more than happy to share the details of the workshop if you're keen.

Edit: Re-painting outside may cost you equal or lesser than VW. Should not cost more in my experience.

I've heard this too, and I'm sure it's normal. Not sure what causes that noise though. Sounds like some liquid being moved around. Hope someone might know what causes that sound!?
