Congratulations! It is my personal belief that only luxury sedans can really carry off the blue color, but I will reserve my judgment until I see one on the road.

And is it my imagination, or do the new alloy wheels look a lot like the Momo Quantum?

Congratulations. This color looks super cool. I think the B pillars should have been glossy black instead of matte. Is that a sticker or paint? My Honda City's B pillar matte sticker has started to peel off.

Hearty congratulations! The colour looks smashing to say the least! Looking forward to hear about your ownership experience. GT TSI is very competent option due to many significant upgrades that it has received over the years. Add to that the timeless design and extensive modding potential.
The colour looks wonderful, and I have no doubt about the Polo, with its clean lines, being able to carry it off!

Congrats on the acquisition. I don't think camera does the colour justice. Saw one yesterday at the showroom and it looked fabulous!
On a side note, I remember reading about the braking issues on GT TSI and I used to wonder what is everyone on about. The GT TSI seemed to stop just about fine on normal and slightly above normal speeds. That was when my other car was the Octavia VRS Mk1.
I recently acquired a pre owned Laura TSI and boy that thing stops! And how!
And after having driven the Laura, when I drive the GT TSI, I feel the brakes to be quite ineffective. My GT has done about 7200Kms and in the last 6 months hasn't given a scare. However, I feel given my tendencies to late brake, which will get further accentuated due to the Laura, I'm ging to have some issues on the GT.
I remember reading on this thread about Brembo disk + pad upgrade. I'm not sure if its possible, but someone quantify the improvement in braking ( strength / distance to stop etc etc.)
Look forward to the feedbacks and pointers.

Upgrading to Brembo will not give much of an improvement. The best option is big brake kit, upgrading to 288 mm rotors.
Hi guys.
So I have a Dec 2018 polo gt Tsi which has clocked about 4800 kms.
I normally drive sedately, with no harsh acceleration or braking and usually maintain speeds of 80 on good clear roads.
A strange thing happened today while on the move.
So as you guys nay be aware, of the slight gap/delay in power delivery when you switch from D to S(not hard input on A, but slightly more from when it was D) while on the move? (usually seconds) and then you can hear a louder note from exhaust and more power under the hood.
I was at 45-60 ish on D mode with very light A pedal and casually driving(the road suddenly became clear) so I switched to S mode(I had the lightest foot on A pedal and almost none during this switch and just seconds prior to that, so the car lost some of its speed and then when I switched to S it read S2 and with the A pedal now being pressed(still not hard, about 10% more intensity) the gear suddenly jumped and showed S3 and there was a noise which sounded like from the front centre under belly of the car.(all this seemed to happen in the lag we get when we change from D to S and almost instantly). The noise was present for just slightly less than a second.
It's very hard to pinpoint how the noise was. It sounded something like when you unzip a long zipper(of a jacket) with slight force. Also, now that I try it, the noise your finger nails make when you run it across the unzipped zipper lines. ( basically the noise when you run your hand on the fine side of a comb, with the plastic lines placed very close to each other)
To explain the feeling while driving It felt as though the gears were slipping and not engaging and when suddenly it did engage the power came back on with the exhaust note etc. Now I was not trying to overtake or anything so I did not floor the A pedal and that's also why the difference in power(during the noise and after was negligible so it's Hard to say whether I didn't have the car pulling when the noise was coming. Because I was cruising between 45-60 it felt as though the car kept running normally(not slowing down) (I can't specifically tell whether I had no power during this noise, but because I felt no jolt of slowing down or speeding up) but that noise was worrying, because no such incidents have and should be happening to a car less than 4 months old.
The noise was gone within a second and the car afterwards continued to behave normally. It was about a 21ish km highway(90%) drive which took us about 31 odd mins and this happened about at half of the journey. (16-18min)
I am quite confused with what to expect at this stage.
Kindly guide if anyone has heard or read or faced of a similar thing.(i haven't found it being mentioned from the pages of these threads)
Thanks in advance.

AFAIK, this has to do with the DSG pre-selecting a gear for you. To elaborate:
When you were driving in D at little throttle, and changed to S, the gearbox generally pre-selects a lower gear, in anticipation that you would be accelerating harder. Hence the S2 gear selected.
But when you lift off A pedal to very minimum input, the gearbox got confused and suddenly was hunting for the right gear.
Since it dropped down to S2, the RPM shot up and DSG found S3 (at 40-50 kmph) to be suitable at the level of A input, RPM and speed. Hence the hesitation from DSG.
Though I'm not sure if it should make that sound, but hesitation and hunting is natural.
Experts, please correct me if I am wrong.
Also, there is a great thread on DSG on the forum:
DSG Demystified.

I like your choice of tyres! Do let us know how they perform.
Drive safe and all the best, once again! :thumbs up |
Thank you so much. After about 500 kms driving on these tyres, I can certainly say that it is one of the easiest upgrades that one can do. Some unintentional handling tests clearly showed me that these tyres hold on more than both me or the car's suspension can lol: I was scared but these tyres are a work of art. they are silent, comfortable and have loads of grip

Thanks. Its actually a plastic panel attached on top of the door. They have been doing the same since the Polo was launched in 2010.

Hi MileCruncher, I would recommend that you don't go for any sort of Brembo product, because there are just to many fakes going around. Rather, try out EBC pads for you GT TSI, they improve the braking feel and they make the brakes sharper by around 20-25%. And if you do wanna upgrade the rotors and pads but don't have the budget for something like the big brake kit, go for Black Diamond rotors and pads, they should set you back by around 30K, have tried them on a friend's GT TSI, and they definitely make the car stop with extreme confidence with barely any fade even after pretty hard driving sessions with extreme braking.
Hope this helps :)

I am quite used to the braking feedback on VW cars, so I don’t find the braking power itself to be an issue. However, after hard drives, I find that my brakes are always smoking or burning hot. What upgrades can I consider? I have been looking into adding discs at the rear, but I figure that looking at the front set up would be easier.

Hi Viraat, honestly, this was the case with my Rapid as well, after every hard drive, the brakes would be smoking or would smell as if they're on fire :Frustrati
Anyways, just for that reason I'm not sure how any other pads would help but you should try EBCs on your stock rotors. If your car's remapped and you drive hard frequently, you might wanna look at ventilated disc upgrades for your front brakes. And as for the rear disc upgrade, AFAIK, it'll cause the ESP to malfunction which is why people don't get it done on their GT TSIs. Hope that helps :)

Strangely, never had this issue in my previous ‘VW’, the Octavia.
I haven’t gone in for a remap because I know I can be faster with better brakes. :D
Thanks for the tip on the rear discs. I’ve been talking to
TheLizardKing about this and he has also been telling me to look at a different solution. I think I’ll look into ventilated discs and EBC pads.

The braking in the polo is sad indeed. Even made a video of mine smoking if you'd like to see.
The octy/Jetta brakes are killer. All wheel disc bigger brakes and all make a huge difference.
If cost is no bar, go for a big brake kit. Brembo sucks.

The OEM one's are a hit or miss. A FM had a good experience on his Mitsubishi Cedia. I had a sub par experience with the same OEM upgrade on my Fiat Linea.
You will have get the Sport Line brake rotors and pads if you are looking for some kind of improvement over stock.
