Just came to know that the Carbon Steel Grey color is no longer available. I had booked a GT TSI last month but now the dealer says that they are no longer getting this color. Does anyone have any information regarding this. The only colors available are White and Red.

It's almost as if VW is running a back-alley mod shop. There is absolutely no clarity or official communication on what changes they decide to make on their cars.
For instance, VW's official website still does not shed light on the fact that TSi now comes with 16" alloys. And, the prices have been steadily increasing for what is essentially the same car.
What was launched at 7.99Lacs ex-showroom (2013) is now at 9.38Lacs, and is poised to increase by another 28k by the month end.
Finally had to take Flash Red. It was our original color choice though ;) . Expecting delivery in about a week. It has been over 5 weeks since we booked the GT. Waiting with bated breaths for the delivery day.
Carbon-Steel Gray was the best, the classiest, of the VW colours. They are out of their minds!

Not only that, there is no official statement on what is the GC after they have switched to the 16" rims. The dealers also do not have any information on this. I asked my VW dealer several times, and they didn't have any answer. I have now given up on that. In addition, the curb weight must have also increased marginally because of the switch from 15" to 16". The VW website still has all the old data. Very unprofessional.
In these 6 weeks I have owned the car, I was once called by the dealership to visit them (the showroom, not the workshop) for a software update. I asked them what this is about. And they said, this is just an upgrade for the infotainment system. Once I was there, about 4 people came out, and took pictures of the VIN etc, and the accessories manager came with a little black thingy in his hand and inserted it some place on lower part of the dashboard (in the footwell) under the steering column. He then put the ignition on and off about three times, removed the black object and then told me, it was done. All through this activity (just a few minutes in total), the Manager of Sales (not my sales executive) was standing by. I have since asked them, what they did (because after all I am the owner of the car, and I have to know what exactly was done to the car), so far I have not received any answer. All they said, they got the notification from VW and accordingly they are just following up on the instructions from VW. I do not see any visible or noticeable change to the infotainment system. I have no idea, what these guys are upto.
The car is running beautifully though.

Couldn't agree with you more. I myself got delivery of this shade four weeks back. Incidentally, when I asked the SE about the upgrade to 16 inch wheels he was totally clueless about it. " Saar, I have 8 years experience selling VW's- no way, the car still comes in 15 inch wheel sizes." Of course when my car arrived at the dealership, he was eating crow. This is the ugly side of VW dealerships.

Here is a small mod i carried on the other day, swapped the boring stock roof lamp in the car to one which came in the Passat B6. This unit has red back-lit buttons with a soft touch feel and finish along with a three pod indivisual lighting assembly for indivisual operation by either occupants on the front seat. Its also got this nice subtle warm ambient twin glow light led/ sky light that throws a subtle red glow onto the DSG gear lever. The whole unit is a perfect fit for the GT and matches the shade of the headliner perfectly too. Me likeyclap:[/b] |
Nice mod! it would be interesting to know in detail how to get this done. Also by any chance is the backlit buttons only in RED? Is it possible to get other colours? Could you also shed any info on where you got the Auto Headlight feature done?
There are really 2 things I wish the GT TSI had - Auto headlight on/off and Auto mirror fold/unfold.:Frustrati
It has to be a one off incident of a callous sales guy. I was looking to buy the vehicle around new year and was updated regarding the upgrade to the car by all 6 of the dealerships that I was in touch with out of a total of 8 in NCR.
This was shared on the forum too

I have seen a lot of positive change in the dealerships over the last two years in terms of attitude and training on both the sales and service fronts.

The Roof Light install procedure has been well document by Ganesh in this link below
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/diy-do...-lights-5.html
The roof light in my case is a different one but the install procedure is almost the same (with the necessary wiring adapter in my case). Yes the backlit buttons glow only in red. And iirc, thats the only colour they come in.

Again something which Ganesh has very well documented with operational videos as well for us all to see. I got it from AliExpress. I do not have any WIP pics. Here is the final install pic of the Auto Headlight Switch in my car.
Hope this helps. I see that you are also based out of Mumbai. If you wish we can catch up to discuss the mods in flesh :D
Cheers.

Ditto to what you have stated. Things should only get better from here. I was myself very sure that the upgrade to 16 inch wheels had been carried out. All the more reason that people in the business should have been the first to know about the upgrade.
Coming to the larger picture, the professionalism of dealerships needs to extend beyond the NCR region, metros, and other' happening' cities like Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad etc. Incidentally, I had to take delivery of my GT TSI at Ambala (Chandigarh dealership, which is nearest to my place of residence, asked me to take delivery at Yamunanagar( Jagadhri ). TD's had been declined by both these dealerships earlier citing non availability of the car. Yes they offered me a TD on the Ameo. Since I had been driving a Polo(petrol) for 4 years I declined. The son of a good friend, loaned me his TSI for two days for trying out the vehicle. I must add here that at Ambala dealership, since I was a senior citizen ( and the only customer on the day of delivery), I was pampered no end by the staff till all the paperwork and PDI's were being carried out. All the kudos and no issues whatsoever. I managed to reach home well before last light.
Just my thoughts.
Got information that the GTs being delivered now come with the SR kit spoiler and black leather seats. It also gets some livery on the sides. Will post pics soon.
What's the SR kit. The leather seats will be awesome. I am getting mine shortly and hopefully it will have these goodies.
Somebody please clarify! Is it real leather?
This would indeed be awesome. I just don't see how they can do it for the price.
And if it is not real leather: I'd rather just have a high-quality fabric.
I honestly wish that they just retain the same fabric seats or just change the colour of the seats to black fabric. Price hike, talk of discontinuing grey colour and now leather seats; all these little things are making me more reluctant to book a TSi. Or maybe I am just subconsciously waiting for VW to plonk the 1.4 TSi motor into a 5-door polo.
Interesting trivia about leather car seats (loosely quoting James May):
Apparently, leather seats were initially used in horse carriages only for the chauffeur's seat, since it was open and exposed to the elements. However, the owner's seat inside the carriage would be upholstered in fine fabric.
Somewhere, over the course of time, we started to believe that leather seats were posh and upscale.
Its kind of silly for them to offer the TSi only in select colours, they should make it available in all of them, factory customizable of course. Its not even like the TSi is different from the regular body shell of the Polo, make the shell, put in the engine and components, interior panels and black seats and call it a day.
I for one am sick of white, since the cabbie community made inroads to the nation (pun intended) white has gone from premium to public-commuter color. Red screams for attention and looks quite racer-boyish in my opinion, the neutral colors left are metallic grey, silver, black and perhaps dark blue, these will give any car a formal, everyday look.
